To raise money for Roma fleeing the war in Ukraine

This is a Crowdfunder for on-the-ground, mutual aid for Ukranian Roma. Currently, it's mainly being shared amongst some UK-based Romani and Traveller activists/charities I keep up with but I thought I'd share here. It's currently the only one of it's kind that I've been seeing.

Roma will inevitably be forgotten BY EVERYONE during this war if we don't do our utmost to remember and help them in any way we possibly can, even if that is simply boosting info about how to help them escape immediate danger.

I also think this Twitter thread on the history of Ukranian Roma (from the Middle Ages to the present day) by Queer Roma is a good primer to read alongside boosting this Crowdfunder.

I read from @ nzekiev on twitter that the day before yesterday it was very hard for Africans to get on any train in Kyiv, they were letting them in the last, many managed to get in only coz they started pushing African women into the train so they had to allow everyone in. Before that if they managed to get on the train they were sent back outside with the phrase "Ukrainians first", but nobody was checking anyone's passports.

Today, February 27, he says the Ukrainian soldiers at the Polish border were holding them at gunpoint if they crossed the border before Ukrainians. These are students, they can't be fighting this war!!! A Nigerian medical student told @ stephheharty they were told Ukrainians go first and were sent to the back of the queue by Ukrainian soldiers on Polish border.

A gay man saved Disney when it was set to fail in the 90’s & is responsible for the lyrics in most memorable soundtracks. The success of renaissance era was carried on the backs of LGBTQ creatives & talent, & this iconic era is still remembered & continues to pay Disney executive bills & give them their paychecks. Very ironic that it was the creativity & talent of LGBTQ ppl that made an impact on the company yet ofc are unrecognized & this is the thanks they get.

This is just scratching the surface.

Disney owes A LOT to LGBT+ creatives & the LGBTQ community for their success, & the films that many people hold close, especially from their renaissance era. Bob Chapek & the company just spit in the face of all the queer animators & employees & talent that made their films & success possible, whom made iconic successful soundtracks & major contributions to the animation of some of the most memorable & iconic characters & brought them to life.

They wouldn’t be where they are now without these important contributions from the LGBTQ community.
