It’s finally here! The last chapter in The Ex-Series. I hope it lives up to expectations (ha, didn’t even mean to do that.) Next up will be the last in the February Festivities series because it’s June 😉. 

This was a really fun write! Again, thank you @megmusicomix for the original suggestion!

After the two days of nonstop press, Chris had some time to himself, which he chose to spend holed up in his hotel room. Now, it was Friday, all he had to do was make it through The Today Show, and then he could go home. It was a thought that brought Chris comfort while simultaneously filling him with dread. He hadn’t spoken to Alex since their fight and he wasn’t sure what would be waiting for him when he returned. Complicating everything was that he still couldn’t decide who was right in all this. Sure, asking her to move in may have been hasty, but he’d meant it. The thought of sharing a home with her was something he wanted, even with her less than enthusiastic response. He knew he’d overreacted…it wasn’t fair to use Sam as ammunition, she hadn’t done anything explicitly wrong…But he also couldn’t ignore that Alex treated him like anything other than an ex boyfriend and their chemistry was undeniable. Chris’ worries weren’t unfounded. She’d called countless times and left a few voicemails but he hadn’t listened to one. He wanted to be mad for a while, Chris felt he had a right to be.

After her fight with Chris the day had become proceedingly worse. Arriving a good ten minutes late for Hunt’s class, she had had to bumble through an excuse about her alarm not going off. She’d missed the pop quiz at the beginning of the period which paired beautifully with the good old fashioned public shaming Professor Hunt provided. Professor Morimoto’s class would have been fun, but the assignment was inspired by spring and they had to capture various acts of love on campus and any couple they saw made Alex think of Chris. To top it all off, Professor Singh finally handed back their midterms. She and Addison exited the classroom reviewing their papers.

Sneak Peek - The Ex Series

Hello! So this next chapter has taken much longer to come together than I predicted lol. But, I am working on it and wanted to share a little. :) Here is an excerpt from Part 3: Exposure with Alex & Chris….and Sam. ;)

As always, subject to changes (and is perhaps less polished). 

Warnings: None that I can think of.  700+ Words

Sam had been unable to resist going to the campus. It had taken some convincing, but eventually he persuaded Derek and Clark to join him. They’d ended up at the campus pub, Sam thought that since they were so close by it would be silly not to text Alex. Currently, they were waiting for a reply.

Sam’s phone chirped, he glanced at the message nervously, before breaking into a broad grin. “Ha! She’s coming. Told you so.” He put his phone back in his pocket.

His friend, Derek sighed. “I’m going to say it again; this is a bad idea.” He was trying to be the voice of reason. 

Critically, the third said, “Lay off him, Derek." 

"Shut up, Clark. You’re just hoping she brings her boyfriend again–”

 He opened his mouth to protest.

“ –and with your fanboy status you of all people should be against this,” Derek concluded. 

“Hey, I don’t care who he dates, I just think he’s cool. Which you can’t deny he is." 

Sam and Derek both rolled their eyes, but Clark was undeterred. "And Sam’s playing above board. If Alex does anything that’s because she has questionable mor-.”

Sam punched his shoulder. “Don’t talk about her that way. It’s not what this is.”  

Rubbing his arm, Clark grumbled, “I meant, she’d have to have questionable morals to date you in any context. No need to get violent.”

The other two both ignored the explanation.

Derek attempted to reason with the blonde. "I dunno, man. She seemed pretty into her boyfriend; and don’t you think that if anything was going to happen it would have been Friday? When you were both shitfaced, dancing to that song about two exes that can’t let go? I mean, come on, you couldn’t have asked for a better set up. Bow out gracefully, Sam. Then, if it doesn’t work out with Winters she might actually still respect you enough to date you again.”

With an lofty quality Sam said, "Tell me, Derek, what’s it like being such a downer all the time? Does it bring you pleasure stealing other people’s joy?”

“I’m airing my doubts now, so you can’t come and complain to me when this goes south. I’ve had enough of your whining regarding the Canucks. None of us made it into the Cup. Get over it.” Derek was a die hard Canadians fan, they’d also failed to qualify along with all the other Canadian teams.

The blonde’s eyes narrowed. “Are you going to interfere?”

Derek laughed. “Like I’m that invested in your love life. And I’m definitely not helping. Clark can be your wing man.”

Sam gave him a pleading look.  "Clark is a terrible wingman.”

“Hey!” the third exclaimed.

“You disappear the second you see someone you want to hook-up with,” Sam elaborated with disdain.

Clark didn’t bother arguing. “I’m not letting myself suffer because you guys can’t get yourselves laid.”

Sam rolled his eyes and turned back to Derek. “See?”

He shrugged. “You’re on your own. I’m here to drink, and chat with some new friends. You said she was bringing one right?”

“Can’t remember,” Sam said childishly.

Clark chimed in, “Does a smokin’ hot blonde sound about right?”

The other two silenced their argument to see who he was looking at. Alex and the girl in question stood at the entrance scanning the room for them. Sam waved them over. Alex spotted them, smiled and nodded at her friend to follow. 

Sam directed his attention to Derek who was enthralled by the new player. He grinned; the perfect distraction, and he hadn’t had to do a thing. Sam wasn’t really one for fate, but things did seem to align when he and Alex were together. Some might say the universe was on our side.…

“She’s that girl.” Derek said frantically.

“Who?” Sam asked, enjoying his fluster. 

“She was the…the…,”–he snapped his fingers, stuck–“…the Burner Queen! The matriarch of the Fire Cult.”

Sam and Clark looked at him like he’d lost it.

“From ‘Clash of Sunset’. That movie you made us watch because Alex was in it,” he said trying to gain back some of his cool.

“Ooooh yeah. You totally had a thing for her.” Sam goaded him with a cheeky grin.

“She was good.” Derek said quietly. Sam softened at his genuine interest. “That’s probably Addison. Alex has talked about her, she sounds like a cool girl. And if I recall correctly she’s single.”

His friend gave him a dubious look. “Actually?" 

Same tipped his glass to Derek. "It’s your lucky day my friend.”
