to elaborate:

- her parents didn't belive she was hearing "monsters" in the walls. it was 60,000 bees

- she is 3 years old

- her parents gave her a spray bottle to "spray away the monsters". it was 60,000 bees

- they didn't belive her for 8 minths

- removal cost them $20,000 BECAUSE IT WAS 60,000 BEES!!!!!!

Not to sound like I was raised by protestants, but I think those kids who argue that it's animal abuse to put working dog breeds to work doing the tasks they were bred and born for have simply genuinely never encountered the concept that they, too, could be genuinely happier if they could do work they found wortwhile and enjoyable. Like engaging in useful and constructive activities might genuinely make life better than a life of doing absolutely nothing because nobody's making you do anything.

Blue Heelers are herding dogs. When I had one, he decided his job was to herd our flock of cockatiels. I didn't ask him to, and in fact tried to dissuade him at first, but it worked out pretty well and kept him from getting bored. Not sure how well things would have worked out if we hadn't had something for him to herd and protect.

If you don't give your working dog a job, they will assign themselves one. Unfortunately, that job may sometimes be eating the couch.

The difference between a well-trained herding dog and an untrained herding dog is that a well-trained one won't start herding before you tell them to, and stops herding when told to do so. Herders will herd because herders must herd. I was there the first time my sister's dog (a shepherd breed) saw sheep for the first time. I swear I saw him blink like he suddenly remembered something, and instantly knew what to do. Genetic memory just clicking into place.

Everyone deserves to experience that at some point in their life. Blinking like a sheep dog seeing sheep for the first time. "Oh, right, so this was what I was supposed to be doing."

I grow our own vegetables. Many hybrid and heirloom varieties are bred for flavor rather than for commercial appeal and travel. There are entire species on the allotment that you can’t easily buy in stores because of this - like salsify, a root vegetable that tastes of fish and shellfish. Our neighbours happily take it to make vegan latkes of alarming similarity to fishcakes. You cannot sell it in stores because - despite looking like a white parsnip - it turns brown when you pick it & if you scrape/bruise/cut the white root in any way, or damage the delicate little hairs, for some reason, it BLEEDS RED and is very upsetting to look at.

There are whole classes of foods like this. Foods that just don’t ship well or look good on supermarket shelves. Forbidden fruits. Vegetables that bleed and taste like meat. Sorry about this

I’m not growing salsify this year, because everyone else in the house is too rude about the part where I actually expect them to eat it. However, an escapee self-seeded outside the allotment and gifted me some lovely purple flowers today

Listen if the study of ancient humans doesn’t make you at least a little bit emotional idk what to say.

I started crying today at the museum because they had reconstructed the shoes of Otzi the iceman.

Either he or someone he knew who cared about him made these shoes out of grass and bear skin and twine and he was wearing them when he died over five thousand years ago.

And a Czech researcher and his students did reconstructions of these shoes and wore them to the same place where he died to test them out and they were like yep! These shoes are really cozy and comfy and didn’t give us blisters while hiking!

Is that not just the coolest shit ever????

(Quietly, with love) We will remember your bread, we will remember your dog, we will remember your shoes

(Quietly, with anger) We will remember your copper

EYES ON THE CALIFORNIA ONLINE AGE VERIFICATION BILL-AB3080

This is an ammendment to an already existing Californian law to prevent minors from purchasing items that are illegal to sell to minors, including alcohol, porn, tobacco, fireworks and the like. You can take a look at the most recent text here

Now, whats wrong with that ? It's important to protect minors!! Which is absolutely true!

However the issue here resides in the fact that websites selling such products will require adults to submit their ID to access their websites and purchase what they want.

And with data breaches being more and more frequent recently, this is a recipe for disaster.

It could also target sites such as Patreon, Fansly, Onlyfans(etc) which, people already submit their credit card to buy what they want already.

This would give a huge blow to Californian businesses and have **a ripple effect on the Internet in the US since a lot of tech companies are within California.**

There needs to be a better privacy law before any age verification bills can be actually effective and properly protect minors and privacy for everyone.

Remember the UK age verification bill ? Minors are already in danger because of having to show their ID due to data leaks.

There are also many other issues with AB3080 that you NEED to keep in mind too :

No guarantee of personal privacy when submitting for Age verification when purchasing and ID protection after purchase. Who handles the ID? What ensures it is not held indefinitely, putting it at risk of a potential data breach?

The definition of what defines β€œharmful to minors” is too vague and overly broad to interpretation and could be abused and exploited in case of a political party change in California.

The 1/3rd provision is another over reach. Who will define what is porn? Are sales defined as direct sales or links to another site? It’s too broad and can be abused.

Fiscal impact has the potential of a loss of online sales tax revenue and drive businesses out of California.

Which is why, I AM URGING YOU TO CALL YOUR REPS AND TELL THEM TO VOTE NO !

Use this to contact your reps, it’s fast to use and there is a script for inspiration.

Find your reps:

Send faxes to your reps with this:

Make sure to emphasize this will be bad for the economy of California, especially since California is ona tight budget this year.

If you try to contact them and it doesnt work, that must be because you’re not in Cali, that's ok, as you should sitll make posts about this using the tags #AB3080 and #NoOnAB3080

Please also note, notorious anti-LGBTQIA religious groups are behind the authoring of the language of this bill, primarily NCOSE & EXODUS CRY.

PLEASE REBLOG !
