Warnings: lovers to enemies, angst, mentions of blood, mentions of death, swearing
He is mad, was the first thought that crossed her mind. He is not stupid so he must be mad.
Instead of putting her in jail, or executing her on the spot, he put her in a bedroom. Her old bedroom. It smelled the same as she remembered; it smelled like lavender and pine sap. It was so cold inside but clean, perfectly clean. Even the bedsheets were…
Is this a trick? Is he… mocking me?
Tajena would throw up if her stomach wasn’t empty. She needed to… she needed to get out. They removed her armor and boots. And weapons, of course. Not that she couldn’t improvise. She could break a mirror and take a deadly shard with her. There was only a locked door stopping her from running out and destroying everything on her way. Murdering everyone. Murdering her and his past.
The door unlocked and he entered. He was clean, of course. His golden hair was falling down his broad shoulders like a silk waterfall and it was even combed.
She screamed and jumped toward him. He was exposed and vulnerable. He didn’t wear his armor, he had no weapons on him, no one accompanied him. Idiot! Fool! This was her chance to end this. Somehow. She had to! She had to!
He grabbed her both wrists with the precision of a hawk that captures fish. Tajena growled, snarled, pushed forward, but Elemir was an unmoveable rock. Instead, he clenched his fists, painfully scraping her bones against each other. Tajena yelped, baring her teeth, furiously pushing and pulling like a wild beast trapped underneath a boulder.
Elemir pushed her back inside the room, controlling her by inflicting pain, until he simply twisted her hands backward, forcing her down, on the floor. She had to kneel. Tajena bit her lower lip, and it bled down her chin, down her neck, dripping and staining the lavish Sumidan rug where they used to fuck.
“You look so good on your knees,” Elemir’s voice was disgusting, vile. His eyes were the colour of dried blood. The smirk on his face cut Tajena sharper than any blade ever had.
“Fuck you! You should die! Just die!”
“I will not. And neither will you. You will stay here. With me.”
Tajena growled again, gritting her teeth, but unable to break free, she spat in his face.
Elemir laughed shortly before pulling her up and spinning her around, twisting her arm so that she had to tiptoe. He pushed her toward the mirror and she could see them together. She could see her messed up hair, her filthy face, her bruises and cuts, and his perfect skin, flawless outfit, and shiny eyes. It was disgusting!
Elemir licked her spit off his cheek, smiling like a beast.
“I know how your spit tastes like Tajena. We kissed so many times. I tasted you so many nights.” He nuzzled her neck, slowly brushing his lips over her skin. Tajena pulled breath between her teeth, disgusted, revolted, barely holding back her scream.
“I will not let you leave again, do you hear me? Do you hear me?” Elemir pulled her hair back, exposing her neck even more. She could see the beating of her heart through her skin. The pulsating stream of her blood rushed through her body, boiling, scraping her vessels like it’s full of teeth. It hurt so much.
“I told you before, a long time ago, when we loved each other,” he continued. “When we cared for each other. I told you then, and I tell you now - you are mine. You will forever be mine. In life and in death. The whole of you.”
“Not whole of me!” Tajena hated that she saw tears shaking on top of her red eyelashes. She hated that her voice was cracking, breaking like a dry branch under heavy snow. But she believed in her words. They were true.
“Never whole of me, Elemir Juroš. I will never let you. But I know I’m defeated. I know I shall never break free from you.”
She finally looked him straight in the eyes. In the past, those eyes were like soft earth embracing the rays of summer sunlight. Those eyes were everything to her. And now they looked at her with scorn, distrust.
An insecure note shook his voice. Tajena felt his grip losen. “Are you so scared of me?”
“Of course. I’m no fool. Not anymore.”
“My family is dead. My dominion is no more. My people are rotting on that battlefield. But I am still here, in this husk. Tajena Viogor and my cursed blood will never be yours. Not ever again. I will hate you, Jarilo, but I will surrender this body to you.”
The frown on Elemir’s face grew deeper as he bore his eyes into Tajena’s empty cold moons.
“Are you disappointed, my sun prince? Is this not what you wanted?”
Elemir snarled and turned Tajena toward himself, away from the lying mirror. But her eyes spoke the same words. She didn’t attack him, she didn’t object, or fight. Tajena’s hands lifelessly fell next to her body as her face tilted like doll’s on her lovely neck.
“Yes,” Elemir spoke in a flat, dead tone. “This is what I wanted. I’ll take that heartless husk of yours. I don’t care about rest. Strip for me. Now!”
And Tajena did. Her doublet fell to the expensive rug, her shirt, undergarments, all of it slid down, quietly hitting the floor, until she was completely naked. Tajena looked through the window and saw the first snow falling. It would cover her warriors’ cold bodies and turn red.
Elemir took her chin between his fingers, and ensnared both of her wrists in his other fist. They felt stronger and colder than any shackles.
