This is a bookish blog where I mostly post about SJM books (that's how it started at least)β€”but you will find other bookish content including fan art. I also reblog other random things since this is tumblr and chaos is welcomed.

What do some mean by a fictional character cannot be shipped because they didn't give their consent ESPECIALLY in a romance series?!

How do you expect readers that read the series mainly for the romance not ship characters whether it's for fun or a potential storyline.

How do fictional characters that are a figment of someone's imagination give their consent? They're words on paper. They don't exist.

This logic still boggles my mind.

Regardless whether readers ship them in the present setting or a future setting doesn't matterβ€”are the characters in a loving, consensual relationship? Does fanfic or artworks depict them in consensual scenes or something connected to their overall journey? Then where is the damn problem then?

It doesn't matter if they are not romantically involved right now or at odds, if they are depicted in a healthy and happy relationship then what's so problematic or creepy about it? If the author promised a HEA for all the characters in her ROMANCE series then... it's not mindboggling to pair up characters.

As readers, especially women, we get shamed enough by certain people in society for reading smutβ€”we don't need readers in the same fandom to shame us for shipping a perfectly healthy and loving ship.

The real problem people have with Aelin’s attitude throughout TOG (imho) is the fact that she owns what she is. She’s smart and strategic and carries a lot of burdens and is beautiful, and she never tries to diminish herself or act like she is less, in order to make other people feel better about themselves. And that’s what people don’t like to see.

We don’t want to see a pretty girl who knows she is pretty.

We don’t want to see a smart girl who knows she is smart.

Those things bother people. And honestly, why. Why do we want people to feel like shit about themselves. Or at the very least, why is it that others need to be the ones to validate us and say β€œwhy yes, indeed, you are actually smart, you may think that of yourself now”. That’s so effed.

In conclusion, anyone who would want to put someone else down (real or fictional) for recognizing their own strength and not minimizing it or downplaying it, can screw right off.

(And sure you can have other reasons for disliking her, whatever, but a character having confidence in themselves should not be a reason to dislike them. Especially when that can spill over into the real world and suddenly we are shaming real women for feeling good about themselves, for whatever reason.)

Hi everyone! Today’s post is a little bit different because this wonderful art you see was so kindly gifted to me by my dear friend @trashforazriel! Laura allowed me to pick the pose, concept etc for all the details in this art and @: zolyna_ did such a flawless job bringing it to life!

I love the idea of Gwyn and Az doing ice dancing together and the pose is a reference from Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, two Canadian ice dancing legends! I hope you all love this art as much as I do and thank you so so much Laura for gifting this to me!
