“Oh no no hold up” She turned and held a hand up to try and signal that it was her turn to speak now, though she wasn’t so sure on how that signal worked but she had seen it a few times. “You have two best friends? Who are they!? Can you tell me about them?”. She smiled, looking rather excited to learn more about him. “Hmm more Christmas traditions? Well we put up lights, we put up a tree… we buy one another presents… hmm there’s usually a massive meal….and it’s all about the family getting together! Oh and we sing songs…”

He looked a little surprised, and then smiled. “Of course I can tell you a little more about them. Their names are Timaeus and Hermos. I’m really close to them, they’re like family to me. Hermos is a bit of an idiot at times and enjoys playing pranks on me and Timaeus. He and I often make fun of each other, but that’s really just our way to show affection. He’s very down-to-earth and keeps me and Timaeus from getting too serious or too arrogant. Timaeus is more like me, but he’s not as serious and much better at getting along with people. He keeps me and Hermos from arguing too much and stops us whenever our teasing goes too far.” He smiled warmly. “I’m very fond of them.”

He frowned a little at her answer. “…Why a tree? I don’t understand that. Why is the tree important?”

She couldn’e be sure as to why it was that she wanted to learn more about his friends. Maybe an element was the knowledge that he wasn’t alone? That others could see how nice Critty was - but she was also nosey. Learning about the type of people who he hung around with also allowed her to learn more about who he may be and that just made her smile more as she listened to him. “Oh. They sound like really nice people...” she smiled “Ryou and I only really had one another...the other kids would be afraid of him or we’d have to move too often to make many friends...but he was all I really needed” She shrugged. “Oh erm - good question”. She blinked a little and paused in her twirling to think more on the answer. What was the importance of a tree? Why did they have to have one and why did they decorate it? “...I think it’s so the presents have someplace to sit?” she muttered weakly, shaking her head, “No no that can’t be it....hmm Why do you think?”

Lonely Spirits

Oh! Now he was just being annoying on purpose. She was a tweleve year old child who was very quickly beginning to lose her patiance. She almost wished that she had Critty nearby to ask for help. Sighing, she took a deep breath to keep herself calm. Somehow she appeared to be scary towards Atem - though she couldn’t understand as to why. “Hmm Ryou has someone special... I think they’d rather be alone - you know?” She giggled a little, a faint pink glowing in her cheeks as she thought over the meaning of what she’d just said. With a small cough she jumped up onto the counter, kicking her legs out infront of her as she hummed a little tune to herself. It was a way her mum had taught her to calm down when nervous and right now Atem was making her rather nervous.

“Christmas is suppose to be when people get together to have fun right? But you are also so lonely...and I thought... maybe I could help... I’m alone too - though I suppose I could annoy my friend but I don’t wanna take up all of his time” she sighed as she glanced towards a nearby window, watching the snow fall outside, “I thought... I thought you may understand...since you were once a spirit... a nice one... not like the thief at all...”

She was so confused. She'd felt for sure that once Atem was aware of who her brother was that he would relax but instead it looked as though he was still nervous? She couldn't understand why. Had she said something wrongly? She frowned as she gazed down at herself as though wondering if she'd somehow appeared wrongly. Sometimes she could allow her injuries to show by accident and that never went well. She was extra careful though after her brother got really upset over it and gazing at her arm at the moment she could see no such marks.

"Bakura?" She blinked a little looking confused. Did he believe that she and the spirit ever got along? Her eyes flashed a little with fear before she glanced off to the side to regain her composure. She never had thought she'd be under this much pressure to prove that she wasn't here for ill reasons. Amane truly just wished to be able to offer some friendship to one who was always looking alone...

"If you mean the spirit" she started ever do slowly, hugging into herself a little as she forced herself to keep talking "I would never do anything to help him... He hurt my brother, he hurt those my brother cared for... He kept me away from my brother for years... I couldn't comfort Ryou even as he cried and blamee himself for my death... He broke so many hearts... I would never want to help someone like that! I'm not so forgiving like Ryou may be..."

Amane paused for a moment as she attempted to take in the logical argument that had just been placed before her, tilting her head for a moment before clapping her hands together as it clicked within her mind. “So ~ because people are both a mix of good and bad…everyone should be able to gain a present?”. He frowned for a moment. There was a certain spirit that she felt that didn’t quite fit but even then he had his reasonings did he not?

“…then in that case I need to try and find you a present Critty! Your the first friend I’ve made since… well since my death” she giggled weakly, “…do you celebrate something like this one? Where you award those whom have been good throughout the year?”

Avatar

“You got it.” He nodded. “We don’t have something like Christmas… Well, we do, but we celebrate it at New Year’s. On the last day of the year, we give each other gifts, but we aren’t allowed to open the last small box until midnight. Then, at midnight, we open the last gift, and that gift stands for something we need to remember during the next year. For example, last time I got a paper butterfly, which means I shouldn’t forget to have fun together with other people. I’m not really a people person, so I usually get the butterfly.” He laughed.

To Amane, Critty was proving to be a rather intresting and wise man. He was teaching her so many new things about the world and yet she wasn't bored. She seemed to love learning from him which was why she was beaming as she was told about his world's traditions. "Oh!" She giggled lightly "Butterflies are so pretty though! Are all the presents made out of paper then?"

Lonely Spirits

Oh. This wasn’t going at all the way that she’d wanted it to. She tried to recall the lessons that Ryou had given to her when introducing themselves to strangers but as far as she was aware they wouldn’t really work. She was almost certain that Atem was afraid of her because she was a spirit. She’d been somewhat hopeful that his experience as a spirit would have helped to ease that fear - but then there was Bakura to blame for all the negative thoughts...right? “Hmm Ryou... my big brother is Ryou Bakura... I don’t think he’s told too many people about me though... he tends to like to keep personal matters to himself as much as possible...”

She smiled weakly, shaking her head a little, “You were dead...for ever so long. And yet look at you now! You’re alive again and that makes you special - right?” she gave a small giggle, hopefully to show she was still trying to be friendly. She’d came to offer her company since she had been watching over him for so long and had seen the manner in which he kept to himself, in which he seemed almost to try and push everyone away before they could get too close. She wondered if there was a meaning behind that...since Atem had been friends with so many people too - but knew it was a little too nosy to ask such questions. “...I am sorry. It was never my intention to scare you though” she paused for a second before giving a small curtsy as she suddenly remembered he was royalty after all, “I came to offer friendship...nothing bad I promise...”

She smiled softly before nodding “Oh! Halloween is all about pranks too! You go trick and treating…we’re you either give a treat or a trick…see? Some people though can take things a little far…. Oh! Do you guys celebrate it too then?” There she went again with the curious little questions but before she’d met him, sheds only really thought on duel monsters as creatures that were drawings on cards then holograms if you used the dueling disks.

“Bad kids get coal!”

“Oh, now I get it.” He nodded. “It’s a shame some people go too far with their tricks. That takes the fun out of it. And save those questions, alright?” He grinned. “I’ll answer them later.”

He started to laugh. “They get coal? Really? That’s sad! Poor kids.”

She pouted a little but nodded as she twirled around in the snow. Being unable to pick it up was a bit of an annoyance but it was still pretty to look at, and at least the effect of the cold couldn’t take away the enjoyment of just being around in this type of setting. She hummed a little as she gave a small shrug, turning back to face Critty. “Well if you’ve been bad then you don’t deserve anything nice... right? It was weird though - it’s as though only that one month counts...cause no matter how bad me and Ryou were during the year...as long as we were good in December then we got presents!”

Lonely Spirits

It wasn’t as if she hadn’t expected for him to be afraid. He knew nothing about her after all and it wasn’t as if she could open up this conversation by explain how she’d been basically stalking him for the last little while - only leaving to check on Ryou from time to time. But her brother had finally started to move on. He’d finally managed to find happiness within his life and she didn’t wish to possibly destroy that feeling... still...she also did not have it in her to leave his side either...

But Atem fascinated the small girl for a number of reasons. How much he’d changed from when he’d been a spirit was just one of those reasons. She was aware of his suspicious nature, it was partly as to why she’d been so afraid to show herself to him but if she wanted for him to not be alone then sooner or later she was needing to step out from the shadows. And that was what she was attempting at the moment.

There was just a large guilt swelling inside by how afraid that he looked. Ghosts were scary right? Perhaps she’d been hoping that since he had once been a spirit then he’d not be so scared? Seemed that hadn’t been the case though. For now, she stood silently and attempted not to look like some type of threat, eyes watching over Atem with a careful attitude before she smiled weakly at the question thrown her way. Least he had found his voice right?

“My names Amane... I just...” she sighed a little, clasping her hands infront his her chest as she summoned up some courage, “I didn’t wish for you to be alone...I’m sorry for startling you though”. A hand moved to play with silver strands as she felt her nerves beginning to grow stronger, “M-My brother...I watched over him...and saw all the duels...and...I donno...I watched you pass over then watched as you returned...you’re quite the special spirit” she giggled happily.

Hmm. Those other spirits who wanted to pester her big brother were rather annoying. Some she'd managed to chase away by herself. Even if she was a pretty small girl she more than made up for it with her attitude. She just wished that her brother got to enjoy his favourite time of the year without others being annoying.

"I've made a nice friend! So I spent alot of time trying to explain to him what Halloween was about...and then we found out that duel monsters already celebrate something rather close to it" she giggled happily "duel monsters are rather intresting...have you ever spoken with any?"
