An Odd but True Friendship

(Inspired by @weekly-writing-challenge‘s prompt here)

There was something comforting about the rustle of paper coming from the other side of the second floor of A Moment in Time Studio. When they’d shared space in the paper’s office, there had always been other sounds in the open room. Risri had never noticed the presence of others because of the constant busyness of The Royal Courier. But today Sky worked in her office, whatever she was doing involved the stacks of books upon her desk. She turned pages, wrote things and turned more pages. The sound was broken only by the occasional pitter patter of Coffee’s feet as she retrieved one thing or another for Sky.

Risri moved silently to her office door. From here she could see the warlock’s head bent over something, the hat that was usually pulled down low pushed back a bit on her head. There was smile on the Kaldorei’s face as she watched. Coffee’s head came into view and then disappeared behind another stack of books.

She respected Sky. Sky was hard working and earnest in every endeavor she undertook. Her perspective and her honesty were always refreshing. Through good and bad, Sky had stuck with her.  And there was no one, except maybe Dragaur, that she trusted as much as Sky.

It still amazed Risri how much she had come to rely on the warlock. They were an odd pair, to be sure. But their friendship was going on four years now and Risri would not give back a day of it. Evenings spent in quiet company had become the norm, but once they traveled Azeroth in search of stories.

Sky looked up, “What’s up, Big Bear?”

Risri shook her head and smiled, “All is well. I was just heading out for the evening. I will see you tomorrow.”

Sky nodded and returned to her books with a wave toward Risri. The elf headed down the stairs to close up the studio for the night. She could hear Sky shuffling more books and Coffee’s feet moving around the office. A smile on her face, Risri left the warlock to her books. She chuckled to herself as she stepped outside and locked the door. She might never have picked the woman for her friend if not for being thrown together at the paper.

And that would have been a sad state indeed.

(Four years and counting, not a day goes by that I too am not grateful for Lat bring you on board the Courier. You are a wonderful rp partner, a great mom, and a true friend. Thank you for all the chats, the brainstorms, and the RP. <3 u. )
