Day 2 in new flat. I am going to attempt to use... The contraption

Contraption lowered. This is the scariest part of contraption usage, once you release it the drop is very fast

Contraption loaded!! Here goes

Successful contrapting!!

important thing to note about the contraption: i have no idea how old it is. building is 19th century and it could potentially be an original feature. however you can buy ones that look just like it online so who knows. i know the previous owner didn't install it.

anyway reviews are in:

we like the contraption :)

I once lived in a flat in Edinburgh that had such a contraption. Trouble was that the air was so damp to begin with that nothing would ever dry. I think I slept in damp sheets for a year.

Do you think the writers of Season 7's Lessons were thinking about Rupert Giles killing a defenceless man with his bare hands -- and, as far as we can see, never so much as thinking about it again after the event -- when they had Willow tearfully confess to him that she expected to be executed or "locked in some mystical dungeon for all eternity" and that it was only right that everyone she knew should be afraid of her for the rest of her life because she was a murderer? Do you think they remembered that when he was about Willow's age Rupert Giles canonically used magic to summon a demon who killed one man and would later go on to kill several more people and that, when the Watchers Council found out, his only punishment was to be sent back to Oxford to complete his undergraduate degree?

I'm inclined to think not, but it does add a certain frisson to his responses, doesn't it? "I've not forgotten," he tells Willow when she reminds him that she "killed people". Is he thinking about Randall and Ben when he says that? Were they somehow more deserving of death than Warren or Rack? "Do you want to be punished?" he asks her later. Does he?

Dr Ghassan Abu Sitta, who was a lead surgeon in Gaza and particularly at Al-Shifa hospital, is barred from entering Germany.

German forces stormed the room that the "Palestine Conference" was being held in Berlin, Germany, cutting off the electricity and video feed as Nakba survivor and researcher Salman Abu Sitta was speaking via video.

Dr. Ghassan Abu Sitta, a firsthand witness to genocide who was working in Gaza hospitals during the war and set to speak at the conference, was detained at the Berlin airport and forcibly prevented from entering the country.

It is worth noting that Germany is currently on trial at at the International Court of Justice for its military and financial support for the zionist entity's genocide, and it is one of the most repressive countries for Arab and Palestinian activism, long before October 7th.

german media was of course immediately invited into the space to record the spactacle - remember this was a private event. udi raz from jewish voice for peace berlin has been arrested. organisers had already jumped through hoops to make the conference possible, accepted 2500 cops on site despite just 1000 attendees being expected.

Congratulations on finishing your rewatch!

If you're still taking questions:

(1) If Faith could have appeared in just one more episode of the show than she did, which episode should it have been and why?

(2) Is there any other character you wish we'd seen more of than we did?

(3) What is your favorite episode of Season 1, not counting the finale?

1) okay well, if we're going to do what makes the most narrative sense I'd say Faith taking Tara's place as intended in Restless is it. It's the easiest way to integrate her without changing what follows and I like that it would parallel the Graduation Day slayer dream sequence. Faith and Buffy have a tremendous, violent confrontation irl but in their shared dreams they are gentler, less hostile. It would have been a satisfying pin in their story until season 7.

But that's kind of a boring answer, if I could talk just in terms of vibes over logic I would have loved to see Faith in a The Replacement/Tabula Rasa style episode. I love the memory wipe trope when it comes to Faith and Buffy, the idea of seeing who they could be to each other without the things that complicated their real relationship. I also think Faith getting split into two people would have been an interesting way to literalize the fact that she's her own worst enemy and she scares the shit out of herself. That would have been cool.

2) Many characters! Coming off season 7 especially it's like - I wish we would have gotten a proper Wood episode, I would have liked an episode about one of the potentials. An episode about one of the former slayers that wasn't about Spike killing them would have been cool! Another Amy episode that's not about her being inexplicably evil! A proper Tara episode, especially post-breakup! Kendra! Jenny Calendar! PLEASE I'M DYING OUT HERE

3) I feel like I'm about to say some extremely unpopular shit here lmao but I honestly love a lot of the goofy stupid season 1 shit. "I Robot, You Jane" is so audaciously, charmingly dumb - it is a carnival fun house mirror of Internet stranger danger. It's a guy in a Sentai monster suit catfishing Willow. It fucking rules. I also think "The Puppet Show" is really funny! I refuse to apologize!

WHO could genuinely with their whole heart hate an episode that gives us this?

HE COULD BE IN YOUR CHAT ROOM RIGHT NOW, TEENS!!! THINK ABOUT THAT NEXT TIME SOMEONE ASKS FOR YOUR A/S/L

Honestly, even though I'm glad Germany finally passed the Selbstbestimmungsgesetz, I can't really enjoy it.

Elections are next year. The current government is unpopular and it looks like the CDU will win again. Not only did they vote against it, they've become increasingly more queerphobic lately. Their stance used to be "We tolerate you but won't give you any rights", now it's "We want to take your rights away and make people hate you". Some states where they're the ruling party already outlawed gender inclusive language and that's only the beginning.

They're not even being subtle anymore, they even announced yesterday that they're going to change parts of the law once they come to power again

They're not happy with the fact that the police and other authorities aren't notified when you change your legal name and/or gender.

Gonna look for confirmation but I've seen a claim relating to the news that the NHS is going to force GICs to hand over patient records to look for evidence of detransition, that the criteria they are going to use is if the patient has a GRC.

I dont have a solid source yet. Do not panic yet. But if true I will lose my fucking mind.

Confirmed by prof. Stephen whittle. Fuck.

The reccomendation is write to your GIC with the following:

“I do not give my permission for any aspect of my patient data to be submitted to, or collected for, the purpose of any research without my express permission in writing being obtained in advance”.

AND if you want a GRC get one ASAP. The wait time has increased so do both.

All I can think about is Hugh’s inner monologue:

Sir….sir…we’re supposed to be looking at the camera…sir, why…oh god is Miss Fisher over there…is that why…no don’t look…you don’t need the psychic damage…just stare ahead and pretend your boss isn’t about to make heart eyes at…

@rachaeljurassic lmbo at the idea of off-camera phryne photobombing this and distracting jack from the camera also am totally of the hc that the women’s choice magazine published this photo to show their readers their regular friendly neighbourhood detective inspector and constable aka. the pinup po pos

At which point there was a suspicious rise in largely trivial crimes being reported accompanied by the request to have 'those nice young men from the magazine come over to search my bedroom for clues about the diamonds that have gone missing no I'm not making that up they really were right there under the bed...'
