personally i tend to be in the "oh author trivia!" camp but one time i read a fic where a man from texas said "telly" instead of tv and i admit i got kinda mad at that one i was like come on you KNOW he would not fucking say that.

To me it feels like that one moment in Spongebob where they all point and scream BALD! BALD! BALD!

In my head when this happens I'm pointing and screaming "British! British!" to me it stands out like a sore thumb but it's amusing and I move on. And sometimes in my head it even causes previously American characters to start speaking with a British accent and I can't stop it

it’s the way I don’t even notice because in New Zealand we interchange a lot of American and British words and spelling so most of the time I don’t know which is which </3

I don’t know why we do that it’s like jUST PICK ONE PLEASE I CANT HAVE MY COMPUTER ASKING WHETHER IT SHOULD CHANGE MY LANGUAGE TO BRITISH STANDARD BECAUSE I WROTE FAVOURITE NOT FAVORITE

Writing Software I Use & Recommend

Brainstorming:

  • Campfire: Great for organising your thoughts and making detailed character profiles, customised maps, worldbuilding, plot organisation—amongst other features. You can write your manuscript here and post it; and they have many helpful writing tips on their blog. Here's a general overview (customisable):
  • Notion: Although not conventionally a writing software, I find it immensely helpful for getting my thoughts sorted out. It's organised and easy to navigate, and the interface is manageable and uncluttered. (Keep in mind it's hard to cowrite on Notion—if you're planning to, I suggest making a separate Gmail account and both logging in with that.)
  • Microsoft Word, with spellcheck off, in Comic Sans (I saw the font thing somewhere and hate that it works). This is what I use when writing excerpts or spontaneous ideas, and it's actually quite effective, though I couldn't tell you why.

Writing/Editing:

  • Reedsy: The manuscript editor is organised and lets you set writing goals, split chapters, and jot down notes for later. I highly recommend it for authors looking to self-publish—once you're done, you can format and export your book as an eBook or PDF; and you can connect with various editors and find the one that's right for your novel.
  • Scrivener: Although, unlike the others I've mentioned so far, this software isn't free, the formatting is great for making an outline, collecting any research and notes, and writing your manuscript.

Feel free to add on any more you know of! Hope this was helpful ❤

One Moment Per Episode With Dick Grayson

Season One, Episode One: "Titans"

Summary:

You and Dick haven't spoken since the Titans parted ways in San Francisco five years ago.

Even though you used to be as close as two people can be, both of you are doing just fine leading your own separate lives - until your psychic powers cause you to have a vision of the end of the world, and you have to turn to him for help. As much as Dick doesn't want to get involved, you know that him leading The Raven on the path she needs to travel is the only way to stop the terrible fate you saw.

He wants to deny it, and stay as far away from you as possible - but he can't avoid you or the truth that you have told him when he runs into that very Raven you speak of in an interrogation room later that night. He has to face a simple truth he has always known: you're always right.

Dick Grayson x Fem!Powered!Reader. Childhood Friends/Exes to Lovers. Emotional Angst and Bantering/Humor. Set during Season 1, Episode 1.

Word Count: 2,300

Detailed warnings and author's notes below the cut.

I wish we could have polls that are like ten minutes long cause I'm having a hard time making a decision over something but I don't wanna have a long poll, but hmmm

so some of you might remember me mentioning that I was cooking a Dick Grayson series called 'One Moment Per Episode' - and it is meant to be a capsule series so that each 'chapter' can be enjoyed individually. and it's more about the emotions between the characters in those moments because the longer over-arching plot is the show - I am not diverging from the canon of the show, I am just aiming to show smaller moments between the characters

and I was hoping to have more of it finished before I started posting it. right now I have three and a half episodes done, and I am sooo tempted to post the first episode because if people like it then I will work on it more. but I don't wanna be booed for posting an incomplete series (but I am not gonna rush to finish it. it is a very casual wip for me).

some more quick info about the fic:

One Moment Per Episode with Dick Grayson - Dick Grayson x Fem!Powered!Reader. Exes to Lovers. Set during Season 1 (and hopefully I will continue it through the whole show). You and Dick are doing fine leading your own lives until you have a vision of the end of the world. You know that him leading The Raven on the path she needs to go on is the only way to stop it. As much as he thinks you are just being ominous and creepy when you contact him again for the first time in years, he can't avoid you or the truth you have to tell him when he runs into that Raven you speak of in one of his interrogation rooms later that night. (Follows the major canon plot points of the show and mostly focuses on the relationship between Dick and the reader, and the friendships the reader has with the other characters.)

(Depending on how the poll goes, I may post the first completed chapter - which is short - over on @sundrop-writes tomorrow night.)

i am begging you all to stop treating this site like instagram if you dont want it to be content free by next year

actually i'm reblogging this again with commentary, fuck it.

There's people in the notes talking about "not basing your worth off numbers", and like. that isn't what this post is about. It's not a threat, either, it's a comment on how this site works, at a mechanical level.

Likes are worthless. Let me say that again.

Likes. Are. Worthless.

They don't do anything. They're a bookmark. They were never part of how tumblr works - in the early days we didn't even have a like button, and the site still more or less acts as though we don't. They're personal bookmarks and the only people who "get" anything from them are you (you bookmark the post) and the OP (maybe a very slight serotonin boost), but they don't keep the post in circulation, they don't keep it alive.

Without reblogs, a post will be dead in the water within an hour. No matter how good it is, no matter how many hours of painstaking love and attention its creator put into it, it will be dead within an hour and never seen again. It gets pushed down the dashboard and nobody aside from the followers who were online when it was posted will see it. And there's a huge difference in engagement on posts that get even one lucky reblog from someone with wider reach - that one reblog shows your post to five, ten, fifteen other people, and if one of those people also reblogs it, and so on and so forth, that's how posts stay alive and in circulation. It's like a contagion, but we're sharing creativity instead of disease.

And that matters. That "lifespan" of the post matters, artists and writers give up on this site and go to sites where posts have longer lifespans because it sucks to spend hours of your life, maybe even days, to get two notes and some fucking pocket lint for your efforts. We create for ourselves, but we share because we want people to see it, because that engagement offers positive feedback and encouragement to continue. But more than that, if every post (whether art, fic, gifset, whatever) is dying within an hour or a day of being posted, that means it's not making it onto your dashboard. And if it's not on your dashboard, you won't see it. This kills the site, after a while. You stop seeing the posts, because nobody is putting them on your dashboard, because this site doesn't have an algorithm like twitter and insta's and it shouldn't, it's the last bastion of chronological timelines.

Forgive my giant fucking rant I am so tired right now and full of the plague but like stop acting like artists and writers are just being whiny little babies, or "threatening" to withhold our fucking work (you're not entitled to it! it's ours! if we get nothing out of sharing it we're well within our rights to keep it private!) when we say this site will dry up without reblogs. We're just stating facts.

also I’ve seen some people in the tags say ‘oh there have always been more likes on posts’ no there haven’t ????

these are posts from 2013, look at the ratio

not to sound like a nursing home resident but back then people know that the point of this site was to reblog things and share them, not to bury them away among your other 23k liked posts

It really does suck, because there's no way to realize your likes aren't actually helping spread posts and art you like.

You may have something you don't want on your main blog, but the solution to that is simple - make a sideblog! That way you can channel certain hobbies one way, and fanart and fandom involvement another.

people are saying do it scared, but you also gotta do it alone. you'll miss out on so much you want to do if you wait til someone will do it with you. do it scared and do it alone.

Anonymous asked:

I saw your looking for Spencer Reid fanfic reccomendations, can you share ones you’ve enjoyed I’m also looking for some recs? 😊

yessssss!!!! idk what specific fics you're into/what you've read, so i'm going to give basic but VERY necessary reads + my reviews off the top of my headd

Wlid nights, wild nights by persephonesgrace on Wattpad > JUST FINISHED READING THIS!! has jumped to my FAVORITE fanfic because of just how immersive and true to the characters it is. The story is something out of a real angsty romantic novel that you'd find at a book store. reader (Y/N) is an imperfect character that you just can't help but root for, and Spencer is written so perfectly. ALL OCS ARE ALSO VERY WELL WRITTEN AND COOL AF. You'll be left wanting more in the best way possible after finishing it.

Here to Misbehave by @imagining-in-the-margins on Ao3 (and tumblr) > age gap, but genuinely if you don't vibe with it, i highly reccomend this author!! such a great piece with a happy ending. also silly goofy meeting due to said age gap which i find funny af

Annoyance by Marli13 on Ao3 > SLOW BURN. ENEMIES TO LOVERS. HAPPY ENDING. I'M CRYING!!!!!!!!!!! She Has Found Me by dontkissthewriter on Ao3 > shorter fic that still sticks in my brain because I love the mutual pining. super sweet and spicy all at once that makes me kick my feet. some authors on tumblr i highly reccomend! - @reiderwriter - LOVED THEIR KINKTOBER - @golden1u5t - @fortheloveofwonderland - @reidsdaisies - @strawbeerossi - (their current story, August, is killing me.) - @reidmotif okay i can't think if any others right now... if you need more please ask me!!

@haee-elia - oh gosh I actually ate up her Spencetober fluff fics 😭💕

@luveline - from what I’ve read so far, the bombshell!reader x Spencer series of oneshots is just way too cute and way too much for my heart to handle but I’m waaayyy behind😭

@mindfullycriminal - first time series is just splendid, i really need to catch up on reading it 😭 and some of the fluffy oneshots of her’s i read just absolutely melted my heart especially the one with the surprise for his birthday! so many bangers and I’ve barely read a fourth of them 😭

@sundrop-writes - she doesn’t write for CM currently, but if you are into smut and particularly sub!spence, her blog is where to be! beautifully thought out and written oneshots 🤭 and amazing at case fics too!
