“imagine caring so much about fiction” imagine being so lame that you scoff at the timeless human practice of falling in love with art and stories

Ridlington Park | I | Eddie Munson regency!au

Author's Note: It has been a long, long time, but I am back with another obnoxious AU. I hope you enjoy as we embark on this new adventure in Regency England. This story has been in the works for almost 2 years and is still far from finished, but I am having too much fun with this and have way too many ideas on where to take it, so suggestions are very much appreciated.

Word Count: 10k

Do be warned, Dear Reader, for this story in its entirety may contain:

female!reader. slow burn. forbidden romance. jealousy. pining. smut. alcohol consumption. swearing. OC family. horses. talks of arranged marriage. historical facts as well as trivial inaccuracies.

Due to the adult nature of the story, this author also kindly but sternly requires underage readers to pursue other works.

Chapter One: A Game of Perseverance

Update!

The guy in this photo is called A'aed Abu Amro. Shortly after this image went viral, he was shot by Israeli Army but someone close to him said he was fine. I couldn’t find anything else about him, not even ways to support him directly. So I’m adding some relevant links to help as many people as we can:

You can find more links to support organizations here!

Please, if you can’t donate, consider taking 5 to 10 minutes to learn about the situation. I know is hard, but you don’t have to do it all at once.

Do you remember Mohammed El-Kurd? His interview with CNN went viral recently. His instagram is linked and you can find ways to support Sheik Jarrah through his linktree. Here’s a direct link for donations.

I literally cannot overstate how important creative hobbies are when dealing with mental illness. If you can’t draw, there are coloring books. If you can’t write a novel, you can write in short journaling bursts. If you can’t sing in the shower, you can listen to music. Sometimes with mental illness it feels like we have this dark presence inside of us that is bumping around in our brain and organs, causing problems. It helps immensely to let it out.

As silly as the lyrics "crying at the gym" are, looking at the bigger picture of the album, they tell so much.

Everytime the lyrics came up, I automatically wanted to sing "crying in the club" as that is already a quite established phrase, and the lyrics for sure are a play on that. Because while a regular person would maybe try to cope with a break-up by going out with friends and partying trying to forget the feelings they are holding in, Taylor focused on her work. The entirety of I Can Do It With A Broken Heart tells us exactly that.

And I just couldn't help but think about her PotY interview, explaining how she'd run on the threadmill for the entirety of the setlist, probably trying to cope with all her emotions.

I’m noticing an increase in new fic writers on AO3 who…uh…mayy not know how to format their fics correctly..so here is a quick and VERY important tip

Using a random fic of mine as example..

The left example: ✅✅✅

The right example: ❌❌❌

Idk how many times I’ve read a good fic summary and been so excited to read before clicking on it and being met with an ugly wall of text. When I see a huge text brick with zero full line breaks my eyes blur and I just siiiigh bc either I click out immediately or I grin and bear it…it’s insufferable!

If a new character speaks, you need a line break. If you notice a paragraph is becoming too large, go ahead and make a line break and/or maybe reconfigure the paragraph to flow better. I’m not a pro writer or even a huge fic writer but…please…ty…

This is a good thing to keep in mind! It is often and unfortunate that a really good fic doesn’t get love because its formatting makes it too difficult to read!

i’ve seen people say that books look like that though, which might be true, but reading a block of text on a piece of paper is different and a different kind of eye strain that reading the same text on a screen. Especially since AO3 formats based on the screen you read on.

legibility is incredibly important in work, both written and in art or comics. Did you ever notice that comics with extremely text rich speech bubbles are harder to read too?

Sometimes I become bit cross eyed, bc the story is still good .

please please please please space your stories liberally and use a new line for each new speaker/character

i can’t tell you how many stories i tried to read but had to abandon bc they were just not readable for me with my disability

Sometimes copying and pasting your work from the document you write in into AO3's editor will fuck up your formatting.

If that's happening I recommend you use https://html-cleaner.com/ to fix it!

Pop your text into AO3 as usual, then switch over to the html tab, grab the html, and paste it in html cleaner, then hit the "clean html" button.

Then paste the new text back in AO3's html window instead of the original.

9 times out of 10 this will fix formatting issues caused by copy pasting.
