Your phone rang for the thousandth time that night. You knew it was ridiculous, but you couldn’t control the hard thump your heart gave every time his familiar number flashed across your phone. You had changed your phone number about a month ago, but apparently some people (that jerk, Kim Nam Joon) can’t keep secrets. You released a sigh of relief as your phone finally went silent. You closed your eyes as you tried to breathe through the panic that engulfed you every time his number flashed across your phone screen.
Your peace was short lived as your phone started to violently vibrate off of your shabby coffee table. Your hands caught the phone mid-fall, accidentally answering the call in the process.
“Hello? Did it connect? Y/N are you there?” Yoon Gi’s voice drifted from the speaker of your archaic flip phone.
“Y/N, if you’re there… Please, just talk to me. Tell me what I did. I can fix it.”
The desperation in his voice sent a painful lurch through your heart. You couldn’t tell him what he wanted to hear. You couldn’t ruin everything he had worked so hard for.
You placed your phone to your ear as you breathed into the receiver, “Yoon Gi, this isn’t something you can fix. Please. just let this go. Let us go.”
You could feel the tears you were choking back start to suffocate you as you hung up the phone. Looks like it’s time for a new number, you thought to yourself.
Your hands ran lightly over the thread-bare sofa you had recently acquired from your best friend, Sae Ra (girlfriend to Public Enemy No. 1 Kim Nam Joon). The soft fabric reminded you of happier days, spent lazing about in a cozy book café, on a secluded corner, that people rarely entered. It’s atrocious green plaid color made you nostalgic, the image of a similarly hideous plaid green flannel shirt flashing behind your eyelids as your feet carried you into the kitchen, if you could call it that.
Your apartment was essentially a large room with most of the things people considered “the necessities” to living. Your small bed was placed between the window and sofa, just across from the dresser which held a laughably small LCD TV (a gift from your best friend Sae Ra). The door to the bathroom was about a foot to the left of the dresser. Your “kitchen” was placed just to the right of that, with the fridge, your destination, just to the right of the bathroom door.
You reached up onto the top of the fridge as you searched for your bottle of vitamins. After a bit of mindless flailing, your hands connected with the large bottle. A picture of a glowing woman, with a conspicuously large stomach, smiled back at you. You shook two pills out into your hand as you reached into the fridge for a bottle of water. A large gulp of water helped you to get your bearings back, as well as chase down the vitamins you’d be choking back for the next seven months.
Your hands ran over your stomach as you finally steadied your breathing. “It’s going to be okay little guy. Mommy may not know what the hell she’s doing and daddy may not know you exist, but you are going to be so loved. I promise I’ll do everything I can to save you the pain I did.”
A/N: As always I haven’t proofed it yet… In theory, this is part of my larger To Love Again series but I couldn’t see myself releasing Yoongi’s entire story all at once. There are still some logistical things that I’m trying to sort through so I have just decided to dub this his prologue and move on from there. Also, I know I’ve said it before, but while all the stories are independent stand-alones, its easier to grasp everything going on if you read the series in order. I’ll probably make a big ol’ timeline at some point. Thank you for reading, and please don’t hesitate to leave feedback <3
