The Penhooligans

@penhooligans / penhooligans.tumblr.com

Penhaligon's is a small, discrete, high end perfumery. There's definitely not a hell of a lot of alcohol in those perfume bottles. It certainly isn't a speakeasy during prohibition era 1930's. That absolutely isn't a small gang forming around the shop, ready to take care of your nefarious needs.

SO I hope this hasn't already been asked, but was Penhaligon inspired by the real Penhaligon's (which I was extremely surprised to spot the storefront of), or is this just the most awesome coincidence? If so, where did the eagle owl part come in, and if not, what *did* inspire Pen?

SO!! Here’s this; I think the word permeated my brain subconsciously, as I was walking around and spotted this fucker in Edinburgh:

My friend and I jokingly use it as a term meaning ‘a lot’. Like “oh yeah I’ve got penhaligons of stuff over here.”

However, I totally forgot about this place’s existence until I stumbled across it on George’s street, but the name of it must have wormed its way in my mind. To my horror, when I went inside I discovered that IT’S A FUCKING PERFUME SHOP!!!!!! So I don’t know if that’s just huge coincidence or that it was a subconscious brain worm also. or that penhaligon just a good perfume shop name?

So, I’m not sure if I have to change the name, or change that he makes perfume, or what, because of copyright aaahhhhhhh

Would Pen be mad at me if I told him he has the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen?

eagle owls do have really beautiful eyes. real owls eyes are so big that they can’t swivel in their heads like ours can, which is why their head can revolve the whole way around. They need to turn their heads to look at things. Luckily, Pen can move his eyes, because I decided he can.

Figaro would have eaten Pen if he wasn't an old bird, is not worth losing a tooth because of Pens meat!

Eagle Owls-  canonically bigger than cats. They also have a talon crushing force strong enough to crack a human skull. If Eagle owl fights cat, eagle owl win.

But, luckily for Pen, Figaro is more person sized than real cat sized; whereas Pen is eagle owl sized.

Aren't Figaro, Wick and Nicholas jealous of Pen for getting all the ladies? Guess it's true when they say that fat birds are getting all of the attention!

The ladies in Pen’s life are all his friends.

Figaro is courting a bloke

And Wick gets a lot of ladies.

Also, it’s the 20′s, and while that ‘fat birds’ gag is alright, IMMA RUIN IT FOR YOU because it’s the late 20′s, where being waif thin and almost shapeless was in vogue and curves were not as sought after.

I'm going to throw a hypothetical at Pen. Lets say that you got sick and you, for some reason (I don't know much about birds) lost your feathers. How do you feel about being bald?

Owls are fucking horrifying without feathers

Its like asking someone for their hair…

How does your character normally deal with confrontation? He’ll either revolve his head away from the person or pull all his feathers in so he looks thinner and pretend to be bark.  You can’t have confrontation with bark! there’s no owl here, only bark.So he doesn’t handle it well. He avoids it and will try to hide. Some people he feels confident enough to squawk and yell at, but most, no, he’ll hide.
