Vienna here refers to the song by Billy Joel. When he was young, his parents divorced and his father—originally from Germany—left him behind to grow up with his mother.

He eventually reunited with his father on his first European tour, in Vienna.

He was young and feeling desperate to achieve everything he wanted before he grew old, but then he started to notice that elderly people seemed to have more of a place in daily life in Austria than they do in America. He saw them out and about more, socializing, working, enjoying life.

He later said in an interview,

“I realized they [Europeans] don’t throw old people away like we tend to do here in the States. They allow for people who are aged to have a useful place in the scheme of things, and I thought, ‘ya know that’s a good metaphor for someone my age to consider.’ You don’t have to squeeze your whole life into your 20s and 30s trying to make it, trying to achieve that American dream, getting in the rat race, and killing yourself. You have a whole life to live. I kind of used ‘Vienna’ as a metaphor, there is a reason for being old, a purpose.”

It’s a song about relaxing about growing old and taking life as it comes. That some of the things you want can wait, and other things you want might never happen, and that’s all okay.

At the Minnesota Fringe Festival in 2018 there was a show called “Hamlet, But Hamlet’s a Chicken.” It was more or less what it said on the tin. They had made arrangements to borrow some therapy chickens, and for any scene that needed Hamlet, an affectionate handler gently carried in that day’s chicken (it would be one specific chicken for any given performance, but they didn’t have one chicken play Hamlet the whole time as that would have stressed out the chickens) and set her on the stage and then the chicken got to wander around and do whatever she wanted as the other actors did the scene.

There was also, I think, a scene with swordfighting where it was “the fight scene, but everyone’s using pool noodles” and some other similarly bizarre changes, but the MAIN thing I remember

was Hamlet’s soliloquy

because they just announced, “Hamlet’s soliloquy!” and then brought out the chicken and set her on the stage and then let her just hang out being a chicken for like FIVE MINUTES and the entire audience watched, completely riveted. It helps that chickens are cute. At one point she fluffed up her feathers and everyone gasped. A+ show, would go see it again.

Ah, the cut-away kiss, the -just-on-the-cheek-reveal kiss, the in-a-man’s-body kiss, the buddy-breathing kiss… all of them classic.

The second kiss though… that deserves a thing of its own. For those unfamiliar with this 2nd season episode, the takeaway is that the beauty pageant is won by a transwoman (played by Karen Dior, a bisexual adult films actor who was a male-identified female impersonator and AIDS activist). So yeah, someone can say “Xena’s really just kissing a dude in a dress” as a handwave, but in-universe Xena is the only one who is aware Artifys is trans and never once does anything except immediately accept her identity. When she kisses Xena, we’re seeing Gabrielle processing the sight of her gal pal getting passionately kissed by another woman… and realising that she, that both of them, are clearly okay with that.

And as the article linked above mentions, Lucy clearly being okay with the kiss despite Karen’s HIV/AIDS status, not just in itself but being filmed and basically distributed around the world? That is a fucking statement a lot of other people wouldn’t have been brave enough to make.
