No middle sliders, but if you have an "it depends", put it in the tags or reblogs!

Storytelling (no matter the medium) needs excitement! Charisma! Presence!

The narrator (no matter the POV) needs an opinion in order for the audience to fully immerse in the narrative.

The lights flared and the cameras turned on to capture the action.

vs.

The lights! The camera! The action!

hot take but when we’re talking about oppressive governments i think we should try to use language that puts the emphasis of blame on the institution in power instead of the citizens. like there’s a big difference between “israelis” versus “the government of israel” and it does matter when it comes to things like human rights. in a fascist regime...the people have little to no influence on what their government is doing. so logically they cannot be held responsible for the actions of the state. and in this particular situation there are also human rights abuses by the government against its people. conflating a power structure with the people it controls is not logical.

i just think we should put some separation between the people and the government. they are not equals and one is not interchangeable with the other. institutions specifically should be held accountable for their actions.

Anyway here are some articles i think you all should read

From 2014 when israel killed over 2000 palestinians in gaza

From 2021, showing israeli support on the recent attacks on Gaza that killed over 200 palestinians.

Forty-nine percent of all religious Israelis and 23% of secular Israelis indicated support for stripping Arab Israelis of their citizenship, the poll showed.
Several dozen Jewish families calling themselves the Jaffa Social Nucleus moved into the city to reinforce Jewish rule through education and religious programs. In 2011, the movement’s leader, Rabbi Yuval Alpert, explained in an interview the urgent need to settle Jaffa: “I was asked to teach a class about Purim, and when I entered the classroom I saw that a third of the kids were Arab. There is a very problematic phenomenon here, because friendships are developed and eventually Jewish girls are marrying Arabs and vice versa.”

How israelis work with oppressive institutions like the police

Later, a group of around 100 right-wing activists and settlers marched in an organized fashion in the streets, as police shut down entry to the city while soldiers, including from the special SWAT unit, were on patrol. The settlers walked around the city uninterrupted for hours, looking for someone to attack. At one point, they counted to three and barged toward Palestinians while hurling rocks. One young rioter was caught with a Molotov cocktail full of gas, and claimed to police that the bottles were “taken from Arabs.” The police confiscated the bottles, but did not arrest him.

Israelis colluding with israeli occupation forces in the west bank

Israeli settler attacks have been escalating - both in frequency and ferocity - since 2014. However, residents and observers say that over the past few months, and particularly since the recent Palestinian protests since mid-April, the Israeli army has been using settlers as a tool to further repress Palestinians.
In the majority of cases, Israeli soldiers are present during the attack and do not intervene until the confrontations between settlers and Palestinians become intense. Rights groups have also documented instances when the army participated in the settler-led attacks on Palestinians or provided protection to the settlers while continuing to use force against Palestinians on the scene.

Sure israelis arent a monolith and israeli citizenship doesnt guarantee protection from the government especially if youre an african or arab jewish israeli and palestinian israelis but israelis cannot be divorced from the israeli government. They undoubtedly participate in oppression of palestinians and many believe, whether consciously or subconsciously, that palestinians deserve whats happening to them and are even glad to see many of us die if it gives them the illusion of safety.

just an fyi

israel has targeted communications and internet networks in gaza which effectively cuts of palestinians from the rest of the world

a significant drop in content across social media coming out of gaza in these last few days doesn’t mean the violence has stopped or that it’s over, it just means more voices are being silenced. it’s an active campaign by the israeli government to turn the world’s attention away. don’t let it fool you.

please donate to the palestinian children’s relief fund or any of these other organizations doing work in palestine! any little bit, even just $10, can help relieve some of the suffering under the settler-colonial occupation!

the pcrf’s offices in gaza got bombed today (link) (link), two days after i posted this. i have no adequate words for how horrified and disgusted i am.

the pcrf has an excellent charity score. you can donate to their urgent gaza relief fundraiser by clicking this link. if you can’t, spreading information about the crisis is valued by the palestinians living in conditions that the human rights watch describes as an apartheid state.

if you would like to do some easy and very clear reading on palestine, i highly recommend decolonizepalestine.org.

when people are like “oh so you’re just gonna judge someone for their political beliefs?” yes actually. I think someone’s values and opinions is a pretty reasonable thing to judge them for.

Everyday I see people on the internet mourning and condemning genocide and facisim of the past while saying things like “how did people allow this to happen” meanwhile when equally horrific things are happening now in real-time, these same people are completely silent.

Unarmed Palestinian civilians (and I’m fucking tired of adding how they’re unarmed civilians in every post so that you can understand the magnitude of what’s going on) from all ages are being beaten, disfigured, displaced and even slaughtered by fully-armed soldiers from one of the world’s strongest armies, which in-turn are funded with billions from the US, the world’s strongest military, in an illegally occupied city where it’s literally a public law that says non-jewish people aren’t allowed to exceeds 40% of the population.

Palestinians don’t want your money, they’re just beginning for you to share what’s happening to them because right now the only thing standing between them getting massacred and ethnically cleansed on their own land is universal condemnation, this isn’t about being performative/woke anymore, innocent people’s lives literally depends on how many retweets/posts/attention they get.

At this point if you’re not speaking right now, there’s no point in speaking anytime.
