Hi! I really love your blog, and have been following on a different account for a good while. I'm fairly new to the dogblr community as a whole and was wondering if you had any dogblr/dog centric blogs that you like and recommend following?

People are attracted to Malinois because of the intensity and power in everything they do, but then are astounded when they get a Mal and it does things with intensity and power… in their house… to THEM. They look at God’s Perfect Working Dog and think “there’s no way this could go wrong” and then God’s Perfect Working Dog directs divine justice towards their couch

Here are nine Ibizan Hounds. They’re from the 1970s, 80s, 90s, and early 2000s.

They could all finish in the breed ring today. They’re all beautiful examples.

A lot of breeds change, but the Ibizan has largely remained the same. It’s one of the many reasons why I love this breed, and have the utmost respect for the breeders. If you want to see what a true preservation breeder is... look at the Ibzian Hound breeders.

One thing that will always make me smile are videos of these big bad working dogs violently wagging their tails during bitework. They are just SO HAPPY to be doing The Thing that they will never look scary to me and I will want to pet them and inform them of the good boys and girls they are.

Do you know of any APBT that breed for larger size without compromising health and temperament and whatnot?

Camelot, Dagger and Amberlite are all on the bigger side (typically 65-80)

but tbh your best bet would be looking into xl bullies (there are some very nice ones out there, you just gotta look) or weight pull lines (whopper, red chevy, etc)

purebred apbts just typically dont get that big. anything over 75 lbs is uncommon, dogs over 100 are virtually unheard of

this kennel has some very impressive xl bullies

most of them are over 100 lbs. you just arent gonna find apbts that large

i know a lot of people have reservations about xls and bullies in general, which is understandable considering most people are only familiar with the breed through Hulk and trainwrecks like this one

but the fact is, if you look hard enough you can find some very nice, sound, athletic dogs like these

Zebo and bullyson? Spill the tea ☕️

both were extremely human aggressive which is absolutely not normal for the breed

one of the guys who trained bullyson said he had to hold the dog's balls to keep him from attacking him and the guy who owned him (Bobby Hall) wrote a book about the dog full of stories about him almost getting mauled. you can find a pdf online if you really wanna investigate further. lots of references to dogfighting though, just a warning.

Zebo was similar but different. he was sort of a Jekyll and Hyde dog. The guy who owned him for most of his life only got him because the original owner's son got attacked by him. Dog apparently almost ripped the kid's ear off. He said the dog would act completely normal one minute and then freak the fuck out and attack whoever was closest.

None of that is normal behavior for the breed. They're supposed to be extremely friendly towards people.

Here's the ukc's description of the breed's temperament (bolding is mine)

The essential characteristics of the American Pit Bull Terrier are strength, confidence, and zest for life. This breed is eager to please and brimming over with enthusiasm. APBTs make excellent family companions and have always been noted for their love of children. Because most APBTs exhibit some level of dog aggression and because of its powerful physique, the APBT requires an owner who will carefully socialize and obedience train the dog. The breed’s natural agility makes it one of the most capable canine climbers so good fencing is a must for this breed. The APBT is not the best choice for a guard dog since they are extremely friendly, even with strangers. Aggressive behavior toward humans is uncharacteristic of the breed and highly undesirable. This breed does very well in performance events because of its high level of intelligence and its willingness to work.

Disqualifications: Viciousness or extreme shyness.
