Drunk and Dazed.
The feeling of getting drunk, the feeling of losing control, this type of feeling where in YOU, even the tiniest part of you is glittering and shining, exposed and bare for the rest of the world to see.
The world is compared to a glass- the glass by which you get drunk.
The moment the red wine- in ENHYPEN’s case blood- the painstakingly pleasurable moment when the blood reaches your lips, your heart burns yet you want to stay.
The actual “DAZE”- the daze of getting drunk.
This is amplified to its highest in the chorus, almost as if it wants the listener themselves to get drunk. The place, and the event of getting drunk is obviously likened to a “CARNIVAL” and this connotation is absolute, pure genius.
The second pre chorus is electrifying- the person hiding behind this mask, the real “YOU”.
Through your daze, when you unexpectedly hear a voice- the pitiful truth of “YOU”, the truth you obviously haven’t confronted yet- when the truth gets a step closer to getting unveiled, things change, and even your own reflection feels unfamiliar.
The way these feelings have been described in the lyrics is blissful catharsis and honestly even now as I write this, I am fully convinced I’m in a daze myself.
The red wine likened to the lights of the flame of the torch- all yours to light, and unlike the first verses and parts of the second- the moment the flame is given to you, you become the controller, the seeker and the master of your own destiny. It is what it is.
The feeling of power is addicting, and as the chorus deepens and gets more eerie, this theory merely receives a conformation.
Holding the torch despite being in a drunken daze still power, your fangs turn red, you wake yourself up and burn your heart, all in the wake of reaching for that light, that promise of a power, which has now successfully been delivered.
We’ve overlooked a tiny detail though.
There’s a female at the starting of the video who receives an invitation to their “bloody birthday party.”
During the span of the actual music video, we witness what we thought was the actual party, but as the video ends, we see the female knocking on the door.
This leads us to another possible theory, maybe the party has just started, and everything they experienced and felt- the power that felt so close to their grasp was merely just a taste, and the actual “bloody birthday party”, the carnival, is yet to start.
The cinematography of the music video is breathtakingly beautiful, definitely not conventionally attractive, but it has the right amount of spice, the right amount of flavour, the right amount of red and the right amount of hype to make you stay.
The contrast in aesthetics and the way the contrast actually works and turns out well, thoroughly scares me..
This is one of those examples where you can practically feel the talent- eerie yet inviting, right through the screen.
