John is so infantilized it's concerning. To each of their own with their headcanons, but you really want to tell me Dutch, Hosea and Arthur prevented this feral kid with a body count of one at the edge of 11, from drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes(both of which wasn't considered harming back then) or carrying a gun with him before he was legally adult? Like Dutch would give a fuck about it instead of wanting to train John from the very beginning so he could be a good follower like Arthur.
There is a reason John was Dutch's favorite and was such a good shot in such a young age, and it wasn't because he was a good boy who went to Sunday school, but because he was trained to be a killer from the very young age. There was no Abigail that could stop this madness like she did with Jack, shielding him from the life of the gang as much as possible.
Not to mention at the start of the game John is already 26. TWENTY SIX! He's not some dumb, naive kid, he's a deadly outlaw that killed god knows how many people. He treats Arthur like an equal, not someone above him, and vice versa. There is no power imbalance, they're both adults that knew each other for years. You all want to get mad about something problematic about this ship, at least find something that actually make sense instead of this in*est bullshit.
