This is so so beautiful and cool.  And so true to a song that I love when I am generally indifferent to music that it just makes it that much more precious and evocative!  It speaks to me, just on every level.

THANK YOU TAY, this is a gift in the truest sense of the word and so are you.

how to find literally any post on a blog in seconds (on desktop)

there are so many posts about ~tumblr is so broken, you can’t find any post on your own blog, it’s impossible, bluhrblub~

I am here to tell you otherwise! it is in fact INCREDIBLY easy to find a post on a blog if you’re on desktop/browser and you know what you’re doing:

  • url.tumblr.com/tagged/croissant will bring up EVERY post on the blog tagged with the specific and exact phrase #croissant. every single post, every single time. in chronological order starting with the most recent post. note: it will not find #croissants or that time you made the typo #croidnssants. for a tag with multiple words, it’s just /tagged/my-croissant and it will show you everything with the exact phrase #my croissant
  • url.tumblr.com/tagged/croissant/chrono will bring up EVERY post on the blog tagged with the exact phrase #croissant, but it will show them in reverse order with the oldest first
  • url.tumblr.com/search/croissant isn’t as perfect at finding everything, but it’s generally loads better than the search on mobile. it will find a good array of posts that have the word croissant in them somewhere. could be in the body of the post (op captioned it “look at my croissant”) or in the tags (#man I want a croissant). it won’t necessarily find EVERYTHING like /tagged/ does, but I find it’s still more reliable than search on mobile. you can sometimes even find posts by a specific user by searching their url. also, unlike whatever random assortment tumblr mobile pulls up, it will still show them in a more logically chronological order
  • url.tumblr.com/day/2020/11/05 will show you every post on the blog from november 5th, 2020, in case you’re taking a break from croissants to look for destiel election memes
  • url.tumblr.com/archive/ is search paradise. easily go to a particular month and see all posts as thumbnails! search by post type! search by tags but as thumbnails now
  • url.tumblr.com/archive/filter-by/audio will show you every audio post on your blog (you can also filter by other post types). sometimes a little imperfect if you’re looking for a video when the op embedded the video in a text post instead of posting as a video post, etc
  • url.tumblr.com/archive/tagged/croissant will show you EVERY post on the blog tagged with the specific and exact phrase #croissant, but it will show you them in the archive thumbnail view divided by months. very useful if you’re looking for a specific picture of a croissant that was reblogged 6 months ago and want to be able to scan for it quickly
  • url.tumblr.com/archive/filter-by/audio/tagged/croissant will show you every audio post tagged with the specific phrase #croissant (you can also filter by photo or text instead, because I don’t know why you have audio posts tagged croissant)

the tag system on desktop tumblr is GENUINELY amazing for searching within a specific blog!

caveat: this assumes a person HAS a desktop theme (or “custom theme”) enabled. a “custom theme” is url.tumblr.com, as opposed to tumblr.com/url. I’ve heard you have to opt-into the former now, when it used to be the default, so not everyone HAS a custom theme where you can use all those neat url tricks.

if the person doesn’t have a “custom theme” enabled, you’re beholden to the search bar. still, I’ve found the search bar on tumblr.com/url is WAY more reliable than search on mobile. for starters, it tends to bring posts up in a sensible order, instead of dredging up random posts from 2013 before anything else

if you’re on mobile, I’m sorry. godspeed and good luck finding anything. (my one tip is that if you’re able to click ON a tag rather than go through the search bar, you’ll have better luck. if your mutual has recently reblogged a post tagged #croissant, you can click #croissant and it’ll bring up everything tagged #croissant just like /tagged/croissant. but if there’s no readily available tag to click on, you have to rely on the mobile search bar and its weird bizarre whims)

url.tumblr.com/tagged/croissant/chrono will bring up EVERY post on the blog tagged with the exact phrase #croissant, but it will show them in reverse order with the oldest first

I’ve been here since 2016 and I didn’t realize this.

Time to go deep diving into my tags!

I suspect it was a previous version of this post which taught me about /chrono which I have found invaluable.

/archive/tagged/ is also probably more useful than I realize but I don’t remember to try it very often

😳😳😳 I... I'm sorry what-

in which universe-

... How American must you be to think that being French is an inside joke? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'm dying Joanna, DYING here!!! 😂😂😂

Please never stop being you I love it 😘

🤣 It's just that I came on the scene so late and then lurked for such a long time and the way you bantered/used slang/all of it in colloquial English, like, none of the usual slightly formal syntax or usage that are sometimes there with ESL writers - I thought the "French" thing was a reference to something I had missed along the way, like you really were into that Emily in Paris show or something and everyone had affectionately "allowed" you to call yourself French as a result. Admittedly, it was dumb on my part to not go with the obvious "it literally means she is from France the country, dummy" - hearing hooves and thinking zebras, not horses and all that - but I was cooped up in my house going crazy so it took a while to sink in 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

20 questions for writers

I was tagged by @pia-writes-things (ty!!! ❤️)

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

46!

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

703,271. Which is, um, a lot.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Good Girls (formerly), HPI (formerly), and l'Art du Crime. There's also a random bit for les Combattantes, and one GG fic has a shared universe with Graceland. I'm very mono-fandom lol.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

  1. Take A Dip
  2. It's All Coming Back To Me
  3. It Hurts When I See You Struggle
  4. Love And War
  5. We're Living In A Powder Keg And Giving Off Sparks

Unsurprisingly, these are all GG fics, although I don't think my kudos ranking is accurate because most of these were impacted by the great kudos-bombing gate from 2020 so it's hard to tell what's actually my most kudo-ed fic.

5. Do you respond to comments?

Absolutely. My secret goal is to keep the conversation going back and forth for the longest possible time because I love the opportunity for a good ramble about my writing 😈

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I wanna say Ad vitam æternam (L'art du crime)? I mean, it's literally an MCD fic, so, not that merry... Also if I remember correctly, Always lost in the sea (HPI) doesn't end on a very hopeful note either.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I don't know? All of them? None? I generally tend to go for happy open endings with that extra bit of bittersweet so I really couldn't tell. But hey, maybe the ending to that thing I'm currently writing actually is the happiest of it all, because oh boy, things do get cheesy at some point 🥺

8. Do you get hate on fics?

No at all! Unless you count that one person who commented on several chapters of whichever long GG fic I wrote just to point blank hate on Beth character lol

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Of course I do (in English only), I like my porn toxic and desperate and angsty with just the right amount of power play and mutual hatred. Basically, I write hatefuck 😂

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Not really, no... I've tried a couple of times, but I think I'm better at/more interested in mimicking existing interactions than inventing a dynamic between characters who never met canonically (and also, boy the kind of SETUP you need to justify some characters crossing paths... it's just too much work). I'm more of a cameo/easter egg kind of writer, so once in a while I'll allow a character from another fandom to pop up in a fic and say hi, but it's really a blink-and-you'll-miss-it kind of encounter.

I guess my craziest attempt would be that Crazy Ex-Girlfriend / Good Girls crossover that I never finished though, cause like, super different moods?

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of but I don't really attempt to know

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes! By myself lol. I once posted a fic in two languages before acknowledging it was a hell of an additional work 😭

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Kinda? We never finished nor even posted it but at some point we shared a quite unhinged co-writing story with @whiskeyjack and @00gangfriend00 and it was a lot of fun 🥰

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

You... you guys have that? You don't just live by your Ship of the Moment just to instantly forget about it and hop on the Next Ship when it shows up? I'm sorry but I don't think I have one of those.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

What a trap question!!! 😂

It's All Coming Back To Me, obviously. Look, I really really want to finish it, not even for me at this point, but for the 120-something people who subscribed to it, for the faithful readers who still leave me comments every now and then hoping for closure. I know how it ends. I have it partially written. I just don't seem to know how to write for Good Girls anymore, and getting my head back into it feels like such an insurmountable load of work, I just- I'm trying, ok?

But like, if someone's interested in helping, or even writing that ending based on my notes (and getting full and proper credits for it obvi), just let me know! I'm really open to it 🥲

16. What are your writing strengths?

Probably dialogues? I've been told many times that my dialogues feel very close to the original, and the thing is, I write about TV shows and I have a very good ear so I think I catch quite easily the actors' voices and tones and mannerisms in my head, so every time I write down a line, I play it several times in my mind with the character's voice to determine whether they would say it like that or not. Looks like it's not working so bad.

Also I *think* I'm not too bad at stream-of-consciousness inner monologues. At least it's one of my favourite things to write so there's that.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Action scenes (that includes sex lol). Filling the gaps between the important parts. Descriptions. Setting up the scene.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Like, featuring two different languages inside the same fic, or writing in different languages? I'm not sure I've ever really written the first one? I guess I find it a bit clunky, occasionally I've written scenes that included a character whose native language wasn't the one of the fic, and I'd give them a line or two if that's relevant to the plot (for instance, if characters are lost somewhere in another country, I can add a line/dialogue in another language for comedic effect. Or it can be a way for a character to whisper something for themselves), but the logistics are quite nightmarish, you gotta either assume your audience knows the second language, or translate the lines in the author's note, or have another character translate it in a way that doesn't sound too articifial, that's really really tedious haha

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Good Girls.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

You think I know that? Out of FOURTY-SIX??? Lol. Get out.

I love the Original Flavor Vader. Like, subsequent stuff made him ridiculous by giving him a backstory and world building and shit and I love it, but just imagine

He’s the Emperor’s goth Space Rasputin who you all have to let hang around, even though he’s really killing the vibe, has absolutely no real authority over any of you (Tarkin is the one giving the orders!), and likes to spew vague threatening mantras while you try to strategize and shit. None of you know where he comes from, Darth may or may not be his real name, and that religion he likes to lecture you about is Extremely Illegal

So one day you tell him his esoteric dying faith–that, like, two old men and a twink from Desert Bumblefuck still take seriously–is old, weird, and not as powerful as your fash wetdream planet-destroying laser–and also kinda useless, dude, it hasn’t exactly fixed that Rebel Problem you have going on

Unfortunately, he is also a seven-foot-tall laser-sword-wielding robot wizard of death, so in response to this, he gets mad and chokes you out with his mind

Your other boss (Tarkin, is Probably In Charge) treats this like it’s normal and tells both of you to play nice while you make sure your trachea is intact and The Magic Death Cyborg sulks in the corner because he wasn’t allowed to murder the non-believer

Vampire Appreciation Week 2022  Day Two: Favorite Vampire/Vampire or Non-Vampire DynamicDamon Salvatore & Elena Gilbert

You are, by far, the greatest thing that ever happened to me in my 173 years on this Earth. The fact that I get to die knowing that I was loved, not just by anyone, but you, Elena Gilbert. It’s the epitome of a fulfilled life. It’s never gonna get any better than this. I peaked.

It was brio 🙈 I binged all of season 1 and all the brio scenes in the rest of the show in less than a week 😬

Girl [non-gendered], same. Picture it: Tumblr, February 2020. I am scrolling bored and one of the Walking Dead/Game of Thrones blogs I follow posts a 2x4 Brio Bathroom Break gifset. My finger freezes its desultory scroll, as I stare, arrested. Literally had no idea what show it even was as the person didn't tag the show but had something about "Rio" and I'm googling like "Mad Men + Rio" all TELL ME WHAT THIS IS, GOOGLE, I MUST KNOW. One week later, I'm thru S1 and feverishly churning thru S2, trying to catch up to the live airing of S3 that had just begun. Two weeks later, I'm on vacation with my friend to Florida for spring training but eyes stayed GLUED to my phone 90% of the time reading AO3 as I tell BLATANT lies about being swamped with "work" where "work" = Brio Explicit Fanfics (yes, I started with the "E" ones and worked backwards from there and yes I read these now beloved Es full on in the Florida sunshine "watching" baseball). Three weeks later, COVID lockdown arrives, leaving me with even LESS to do in real life and MORE time to sit on the couch and scroll, read, watch, scroll, read, re-watch, etc. IT WAS A RUSH, I TELL YOU!

Is it normal to get totally wrapped up in a new ship for two weeks straight? Or do i need to talk about this in therapy??

Yes, and also yes.

For the first yes, I'm speaking just from my own personal experience of what's "normal" and to me that is getting totally wrapped up in a new ship for two weeks straight. I'm talking trying to read every fan fic out there, looking for tumblr gifsets 50 scrolled pages down, trying to subtly ("subtly" - lol) manipulate all the people around me to also get into it so I'll have someone to talk to about it, the works.

For the second yes, I'm mostly being facetious 'cause being into something hard core ain't something to be ashamed of or to apologize to your $150/hour therapist over! But on the off chance it sparks a "hey, this hyperfixation on a new ship is reminding me of other times in life where I hyperfixated on other things....what's that about?" and that then subsequently leads to an ADD/ADHD diagnosis and life-changing meds that help address all of that other shizzle, then yes, by all means tell your therapist (....again speaking from my own personal experience, lol forever)!

Also, please tell me what the new ship is so I can look it up and see if it will take root in my own brain?

Hi, idk how to use tumblr so idk how to reply to the post. I only have tumblr because I wanted to follow you and other authors lol.

I actually wanted to know what happened after the main story of both sides of the law ended. But since you’ve mentioned other POVs, deleted chapters/scenes, it actually made me curious hahahahha. But i’ll take whatever you can give me and thank you so much! 💖💖💖

Happy holidays too! 💖

Okay anon, challenge accepted lol. I'll do my best to polish something up!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I have reread Both Sides of the Law for the nth time and i still feel the pain i’ve felt when i first read chapt.9, and I love this alternate version of brio so much, I just wanna ask if you maybe have some other fics that’s within both sides of the law because I just cant get enough 🥲

BTW I was so happy when you posted a new fic!!! I just want to thank you too because you’re so good at it! 💖

AHHH, I'm so happy that it's there for you to pick up again and re-read and still make you happy!! (sorry again about ch. 9 😩)

When you write other fics "within" the universe, do you mean a continuation - a chapter 11 so to speak of what happened after the main story ended? Or something set within the timeline itself, like a deleted scene/chapter in their 3rd year etc.? Because potentially the answer to either would be "yes" lol. I have scraps of scenes that were cut or are from a different perspective that are set "during" and then also diff POVs (Gretchen/Courtney) that carry on the story after the last chapter. Everything is brutally rough and unfinished but tell me what you wanna see, anon, and I'll try to make it happen!

Hope you are having a lovely and relaxing holiday season, however you celebrate, and HAPPY NEW YEAR! And thank you again for this note, it made me grinch smile:
