when a woman designs an outfit for women VS when men are allowed to do it

Stop letting men do things 2k18

Never not reblogging

Best post ever

Seriously though!!  It’s ridiculous!

women-designed outfits are not only 1000% more practical, but also highly detailed and meant to elevate the woman wearing it, whereas male designers are happy to slap on a plain piece of fabric and let the woman’s body elevate their poor design.

I need to make a long post about this because the more I think about it the more I’m mad about the

Klaus and Ben DISRESPECT

  • His and Ben’s relationship was borderline mean the entire time
  • He doesn’t let Ben talk to any of his siblings
  • Ben’s arc revolving around a random girl with like 2 scenes instead of his family
  • Ben demanded to possess Klaus against his will, so much so Klaus was scared to sleep
  • Klaus not able to take his body back even when he clearly felt uncomfortable when Ben using his body for sex
  • Klaus’ relapse being used as a joke and not taken seriously
  • The seeing ghosts part of Klaus’ powers being totally ignored... seriously where did his fear of ghosts go? Where even are all the ghosts?
  • Klaus barely reacting to Ben’s death other than looking sad in bed once and asking Vanya in a thirty second scene
  • Klaus having a great scene where he proves he can fight for himself with his powers after being treated as useless and then LITERALLY BEING USELESS THE ENTIRE SEASON
  • Didn’t even get to use his powers against Lila like all the others.
  • Would’ve loved to see a scene of Lila reacting to seeing ghosts

I can’t stop thinking about how like. Nicky and Joe met and fell in love and tried to kill each other repeatedly during the first crusade. When in Medieval Europe homosexuality was considered a sin but like not a serious sin. You could give penance and then continue on with your life until you sinned again, then time for more penance, and so on. And during this time in the Arab world, homosexuality was no big deal, at all.

Just imagining Yusuf standing in the dust with his sword drawn shouting after Nicolo on a horse in Italian, “I see you in my dreams!” with a wink, and Nicolo just being terribly flustered by the brashness. H8 that guy, now he has to pray ten times and do twenty push ups for Jesus.

One of the best things about Joe and Nicky in The Old Guard is their sexuality/relationship is a very important traits of both of their characters, but it’s not their only trait.

So many times when I hear people talk about gay/queer characters in media, I hear, “their sexuality isn’t an important part of their character” or “they just happen to be gay,” and I’ve always thought that was bullshit and a cop-out. Sexuality and romance plays a HUGE part in people’s lives. People spend a lot of their time looking for “the one”, looking for romance, looking for a relationship or sex or both. Think about classical male heroes and how often they bed women (think James Bond, James Kirk in Star Trek, etc.) Wouldn’t you say sexuality is a huge part of their characters? Yet with gay characters it’s said to be “not important.” It’s just a cop-out.

Joe and Nicky’s sexualities are very important because their relationship is so incredibly important to both of them. It’s portrayed to be the reason they’re both still happy to be living while Andy and Booker have grown jaded and suicidal due to loneliness. They are the most important thing in the world to each other. They aren’t “badass but just happen to be gay.” They are badass AND gay.

They’re incredibly competent fighters who can brutalize an entire army but when they go home they flirt, they wink at each other, they snuggle, they kiss, they talk about their love for one another. They’re no less masculine when they’re expressing their love for one another than they are when they’re massacring an army of soldiers.

Yet still, their characters are not reduced to just the token gay guys who are also tough. They have their own distinct personalities. Joe is impassioned, quick to anger, protective, playful, romantic, vengeful, but with a soft heart full of deep love. Nicky is quiet, reserved, compassionate, loving, and sweet, but also calculating and sarcastic and a force to be reckoned with in a fight.

They’re both such distinct, powerful personalities and it’s portrayed through their individual actions as well as through their love for each other. It fills me with so much joy that these characters were allowed to be so unapologetically, textually gay without it being an afterthought and also without it becoming the centrepiece of the story.

man, as someone who’s been in marvel/dc fandoms for the better part of a decade, to have something like the old guard come around and be like “oh, you want a superhero movie that treats its women with respect?” “you want a canon queer couple that are main characters?” “you want a genuinely diverse cast?” “you want a found family narrative that actually shows the love and affection this group of people has for each other?”

finally, some good fucking food
