Anon made me choose: Dousy or Quakerider

“Robbie! Don’t give them more reasons to be afraid of you.” “It’s not me they need to be afraid of! It’s the other guy and he wants out!”

25.  “There’s no way I’m letting you spend Christmas alone.” + quakerider

((Hehe don’t tell my family I’m even thinking about Christmas before Thanksgiving 😜))

…………………………………………………………………..

Daisy had the base pretty much to herself. The SHIELD Christmas party had been fun, but now, on Christmas Eve afternoon, everyone was going home.

Mack was taking Yo-yo and going back to his brother. Yo-yo had privately come to Daisy and told her (full of mischievous glee) that she was going to ask Mack’s brother for his blessing to propose. Daisy knew that Mack was going to be pissed that he missed out on the opportunity to propose, but he’d say yes.

Jemma wasn’t celebrating at all. She was leaving, though, heading out to a data center that could have intel about how to find Fitz. If she had time, she’d Skype her parents, too.

Bobbi and Hunter had come back a few months ago, considering that SHIELD was technically now all criminals. But they were taking their new baby boy, Hartley Morse-Hunter, up to Alaska for well-earned a white Christmas vacation.

And May… May hadn’t come back from Tahiti. She’d sent the intel that Coulson was dead months ago, then dropped off the grid. That had just made the death of the closest thing she had to a father worse; she’d lost who might as well be her mother, too.

Nothing like spending Christmas alone.

“Knock, knock,” Robbie said, coming into Daisy’s room.

“Hey, Robbie,” Daisy said, “What’re you doing here?”

“Just wanted to let you know that I’m heading out to LA,” He said nonchalantly, “And to drop this off.” He put a small, wrapped package on her bedside table, “Don’t open it till tomorrow, though.”

Daisy smirked, “Wouldn’t dream of it.”

“So what are your plans?”

“What?”

“You going to visit your parents for the holidays? Why aren’t you packed?”

“Cause my parents are dead, Robbie,” Daisy said flatly, “Only family I have is SHIELD. Since they’re all shipping out around to be with their families, I guess I’ll be watching White Christmas on six different screens simultaneously, all by myself.”

Robbie stared at her, “Uh, no you’re not.”

“Yeah, I am,” Daisy insisted.

“No you’re not. Pack your bags, we’re leaving in two hours.”

“I’m sorry, ‘we?’”

“I’m leaving for LA in two hours, and you’re coming with me.”

“Why would I do that?”

“Because there’s no way I’m letting you spend Christmas all by yourself.” Robbie grabbed the package and called over his shoulder as he left, “Stay here alone if you want, but if you do, you’re not getting this!”

Daisy smirked, but didn’t move. She didn’t say what she was really thinking.

The only good Christmas memories she had was of a couple years ago. She remembered it like it was yesterday.

Everyone else had shipped out, just like this year, going to visit their families. Everyone except Coulson and May.

Knowing she had no family to spend the holidays with, they had taken her out to these beautiful botanical gardens full of snow, to see the Christmas lights twisted into shapes of different plants and animals. Though Daisy had never put much stock in holidays, she’d thought that garden was pretty magical.

Then, they’d come back to the Playground, and Coulson had made a simple dinner; grilled cheese, tomato soup, and hot cocoa with candy canes in it, and the three of them had watched all the classic movies together.

Though May usually hated physical contact, they had all curled up on the couch in front of the TV together under a red blanket, Daisy in the middle. In the end, she had fallen asleep to the finale of White Christmas, feeling warm, and safe…

And loved.

That was the first, and only time Daisy had ever felt like the holidays were really a time for family.

Daisy didn’t really feel like celebrating without Coulson and May, but…

Robbie had gone out of his way to invite her to spend the holidays with him. None of the others, not even Mack, had made the effort.

Daisy packed her bags and headed for the hangar.

Gabe didn’t question why Daisy was spending Christmas with them. (To be honest, Daisy would be surprised if the kid questioned anything at this point.)

Even though he was in a wheelchair, Daisy still suspected it was his fault that she and Robbie had somehow ended up in a doorway under some strategically-placed mistletoe.

Daisy was definitely glad she spent the holidays with the Reyes brothers.

Alright, I know it has only been a few episodes, but I really need Gabriel Luna to play Robbie Reyes for as long as possible. He is freaking killing it! I don’t care how or why, I just need it to happen. Whether he becomes a regular on Agents of SHIELD or he gets his own spin-off, it doesn’t matter. I just need to see Gabriel Luna as Robbie Reyes on my screen for as long as Gabriel wants to do it or for however long the MCU is a thing. Please! He is freaking amazing!

@quakerider-hell  had a very cool post recently asking when did fans start shipping Quakerider. My response was 5 seconds during their first scene together at the junkyard :) I wanted to analyze what about that scene was so compelling to me because I don’t ever ship TV couples, and I certainly don’t approach female leads as automatically needing a (romantic) partner.

The scene opens showing Robbie putting tools away in his trunk, a pensive look on his face. He looks dangerous (to me) and menacing when he flips his car keys and zips up his jacket. This entire bit mirrors Daisy’s opening scene when they showed her putting on eye makeup, (also that gratuitous underwear shot), bandaging her arm and zipping up her own jacket. So for me, I immediately felt like the characters were being framed in similar ways, and maybe at similar points in their respective stories.

So as Robbie is about the shut the door to where he has his car stored, Daisy calls out and interrupts him. Now he’s not rude, but he is definitely not welcoming or friendly. He states that they’re closing and she needs to call another number, probably thinking she would go away with that. Not only does she continue talking to him, she drops in a slick ‘oh wait, what’s your name?’ with a laugh, tryna be cute, and Robbie just looks not impressed. Daisy/Skye can be a bit of a smart ass, so to me it’s refreshing to see someone totally see through her bs :)

As they started walking towards the office/trailer, and Robbie allowed her to walk in front of him so he can stalk towards her, that frame where he is right behind her is so electric to me. This is absolutely a platonic scene, but something about him focussing in on her while she is aware of him just sparked so much chemistry.

So there, that’s my Quakerider origin story :)

Thanks @quakerider-hell for the idea to put this down :)

“Thanks again, Robbie,” Daisy said as they walked up the slightly overgrown walkway to the front porch of Daisy’s house. “You really didn’t have to…”

“What? And miss the chance to play house with your entire crazy family?” Robbie grinned and slung an arm around her shoulders as if that was something they did often. (To be clear, they didn’t.)

She rolled her eyes and lightly hit his torso with the back of her knuckles as they walked up the front stairs. The house was lit up with white fairy lights along the front porch and windows and a huge wreath sat on the front door. Inside, she could hear her expansive family already enjoying themselves.

They’d already gone through the plan on the way over: Daisy was sick of her family asking about her love life during holidays so she grabbed Robbie to pose as her boyfriend. She hadn’t told them much about him so they didn’t have to make up any elaborate lies. Except the whole relationship thing.

“C’mon,” she said, stepping forward and pushing open the front door. They were hit with a wave of Christmas like a physical wave: blaring music, apples and cinnamon in the air, tinsel, bows and various other decorations covering every surface.

“Daisy!” Everyone seemed to turn and see her at the same time. She was lost in the crowd as everyone moved in to hug her: her cousin Jemma and her husband, Fitz. Elena and Mack, old family friends. Her cousin Bobbi and her on-again-off-again husband, Lance. And of course, her parents, Phil and Melinda. Various other cousins were scattered amid the house, clutching drinks, wearing Christmas sweaters and talking about everything from decorations to family vacations to the newest episode of that political TV show.

Once she finally was able to breath, Daisy found Robbie cowering by the front door and tugged him inside as they pulled off their jackets.

“Who is this?” Bobbi asked, sliding over to squeeze Robbie’s bicep as if that were the only way to tell a man’s worth.

Daisy swatted the taller woman’s hand away. “This is Robbie. He’s my—“

“Boyfriend?!” Jemma squealed, her grin nearly splitting her face. She pumped Robbie’s hand up and down in a fierce shake. “That’s great, Daisy! It’s so good to meet you, Robbie.”

“Yeah,” Robbie said, getting his hand back and shaking feeling back into them. “You too.”

turn of the tide

summary: after everything that happened in the future, daisy’s just not in the christmas spirit. but robbie’s hoping he can help her get there.
a/n: unbetaed and the first fic i’ve finished in a loooong time.

Daisy had spent a long time hating Christmas.

When she was a kid, people at school would always tell her that she should love Christmas, that it was the greatest holiday ever because it was when people would get together with their family, the people they loved, to celebrate the coming of Jesus and show how much they cherished each other.

Except Daisy had never had that.

Year after year, she’d ‘celebrated’ the holidays without any family, usually spending Christmas at the orphanage surrounded by serious nuns who were very strict in their belief of how Christmas should be welcomed. In their opinion, Christmas was a time to repent and pray so they could welcome the Lord properly. Nothing more, nothing less.

And the few families she got to spend Christmas with? They didn’t even try to make Daisy feel like she was part of the family, let alone like she was welcome at their family celebrations. If anything, they’d done everything they could to exclude her.

For the longest time, the Holidays had just been a bitter reminder of what Daisy didn’t have—a family or anyone that loved her enough to spend it with her.

But then she’d met her team.

Her family.

And the tide had turned.
