Monty was a true creative spirit. He was always brimming with epic ideas and dreams. Every grand story that he imagined would spark one thousand scenes that he wanted to create - complete with the music to go with them, of course.

His ideas for Dead Fantasy episodes were always spinning and growing in his head, even as he worked on RWBY. We wanted to see him finish DF and then begin certain personal projects, such as the movie he had been dreaming of his whole life. This is why DF will always be his magnum opus in my mind. He said I influenced DF a little, but it was all him.

Rinoa was his favourite FF character and he had so much story planned for her. Where most fanart depicts Rinoa as a happy teenager, in DF Rinoa is usually sombre. This is because of a revelation that DF viewers will sadly never get to see: Rinoa's fantasy was to die (a play on the series title). Imagine a universe where Squall had died, perhaps thousands of years ago. Since Rinoa is a Witch who cannot die, she eventually becomes almost godlike and in her sorrow pushes herself to the limit. When Monty described the scenes in his head, I easily imagined them unfolding. I already knew how boundless his imagination was, but despite the immense scale of the scene, he had a slew of details and a story that would make it truly intense.

Monty also loved to share crazy ideas like these in fun ways. Often he'd sneakily upload a video preview then quickly delete it from his channel. Or he'd put up a vague artwork that took days to perfect and take it down as soon as it went up, as though it was uploaded in error. I sometimes joined him during these sessions, watching and anticipating everyone's reactions or theories. Even though we would be tired and it was late at night, it was too much fun.

Truth is, whenever he gave his fans a glimpse into the workings of what was on his mind, he was also closely watching them. He knew he was inspiring them, and getting them to see things a little differently.

"The world looks very different, when you're pushing yourself every second you've got."
