The Saga of Bob: Endgame (hopefully)

This one was awhile coming. Partly I was afraid that if I posted it, the tumor would come back the next day, and partly I had some complications that took awhile to iron out. But here we are, at long last, sans Bob.

You can learn all about how I had cancer in Part One or hit the prior episode at Part Seven.

What is with doctors and painkillers?! Though to her credit, she was like “I am so sorry you’re in pain! Let me write a new prescription!”

(Still not sure if it’s PTSD.)

That last bit was the really scary one. (It was, uh, pretty bad. Never been bedridden before. Don’t recommend it.)

Shout out to Doctor Pinkeye who had it sorted in two business days. Also, when I first reported my symptoms, she said “You never complain about anything. If you say something’s wrong, it is.” She’s a doctor in a million.

Lack of cortisol can cause problems in about twenty different ways, including dangerous levels of potassium and blowing your electrolytes all to hell. It’s actually kinda interesting, in a “wow, look at all the fascinating ways I could keel over!” way.

Honestly, after two months of slowly crashing cortisol levels, complaining about radiation would have felt like complaining over a hangnail. It was boring and I moisturized a lot, the end.

Also there are some quite nice MedicAlert bracelets on Etsy.

And here is hoping I never have to make another one of these!

Personnages : Team Avalanche, Team Haut Vent, Tarask (FF9), Kadajenova, Almaz

As a public service announcement, someone scraped every single text file on GameFAQS in March 2020 for archival purposes, and you can find it on archive.org with the title "Gamespot TXT GameFAQs - Full Archive." You can download the whole thing (it's about 2 gigs) if you want to spite Wikia's attempts to make themselves the gatekeepers of all fan knowledge.

going through the hades 2 stuff and im sorry but i just have to ramble a second because look at Hephaestus

he's not just a wheelchair user but also an amputee. an above knee amputee. wheelchair users are already next to nonexistant in video games but amputees exist in this really...disheartening? spot where they're pretty much just reduced to "person with a cybernetic limb" - it's always just somewhere from "just a cool visual design" to flat out "superpower". I can't think of a video game amputee that is actually disabled by their limb differences - I'm all for futuristic worlds where prosthetics and other disability aids are far advanced from what they are now, but that's not really what's implied by these designs. They're just... Cool designs that in no way reflect on the real-world experience of being an amputee.

Look at Hephaestus, though. Look at that prosthetic. Whilst stylised it very much looks like it functions like common mechanical knees - knee bends when thigh is lifted, knee straightens when thigh is lowered. He's a wheelchair user as well as a prosthetic user - every prosthetic user I know is also a wheelchair user as a prosthetic is not usable in every occasion and also cause exhaustion and pain if used constantly.

Whilst we can't see much of his wheelchair the position he's sat in and the wheels very much evoke active wheelchair to me - this carries on to very specifically the thickness of his arms. Whilst a lot of Hades designs are muscular Hephaestus has very noticeably thick arms - which makes sense, as active wheelchairs require a lot of arm strength.

Just overall this design is making me want to cry - he's not just an actual wheelchair user in a video game, he's a realistic depiction of an amputee, a disability usually brushed over in order to give a character a fun design quirk and nothing else. He's fat and he's hot and he's a realistic depiction of an above knee amputee. Oh my god. Oh my god?

Nuns having gelato in Rome.

Avatar

I can’t check the menu to be sure, but the place name is advertising crepes (and drinks) in french so, like, out of three statement regarding this image, two might be wrong?

@ibijau you reminded me that it’s good practice to check before just accepting stuff on the Internet as fact so thank you! From what I can tell from an Internet search, the place does appear to be in Rome - Creperia Michelangelo to be specific. The awning has been updated since the photo was taken but the building facade is recognisable. As for what they’re eating, i can’t find ice cream as a separate option on their online menu but it is listed as a crepe filling and it’s not uncommon for places to serve both gelato and crepes in Italy. And the position of their hands does look like they’re eating ice cream? But who knows. Anyway this was a fun little rabbit hole to go down 😅

Oh it definitely is in Rome, but you got it slightly wrong!

A reverse image search gives us this picture:

Same awning, same building. The writing in the back says “Old Bridge” and “Gelateria Frullati” on the second, smaller awning. The address from this picture is given as “Viale dei Bastioni di Michelangelo 5.”

Checking this adress on Google Maps actually gives us a result for an Old Bridge Gelateria.

Checks out, the buildings are the same! HOWEVER, the building that the nuns are standing in front of is not the same as the Gelateria, it’s Viale dei Bastioni di Michelangelo 3, where the Creperia Michelangelo is located! They are standing in front of a Creperia, but might indeed be eating ice cream! (The website says the gelateria has been there for 30 years, so it’s possible.)

Also, as a last high point:

It’s literally right next to the Vatican, so the nuns also check out 🤣

THANK YOU! I was wondering but the reverse image search didn't gave anything !
