Hey baby, incoming opinion about the Sonic franchise!

I honestly think most facets of the franchise are not as bad as people make it out to be and things are way more nuanced. (Yes this is about Knuckles but also about EVERYTHING ELSE)

I honestly thought the series was pretty cute. Defiantly could have used more Knuckles, but considering this is a spinoff of the Movie Universe where Sonic or Robotnik can't appear in, what were we really expecting it to be? That's the key word: expectations. Most of us Hard-core fans really aren't the target for this show or these movies. The real target is general audiences and on that front, I understand the decisions made when making the show. Most media in this franchise is focused on a specific goal and having a basic understanding of that goal is going to save you some headaches when dealing with this series. This isn't to say that you can't have standards. Rather, its easier to make peace with stuff when you understand its intentions.

For example, Most people weren't happy with Sonic Prime. I watched/grew up with a lot of Ben 10 and Ninjago, so I was pretty excited! Because of this, there were aspects of the show that I was able to see as the writers'/animatiors' strengths. There were some character moments and fight scenes that I loved. I probably wouldn't have appreciated those moments had I gone in expecting it to be bigger than what it was trying to be.

Here's a question: how would you fix Knuckles, or Prime, or Forces, or some other bad Sonic product? Some people would give genuine criticism. Most people would simply rather these things not exist at all. Forces, Superstars, Prime, Knuckles apparently aren't bad because of genuine flaws, its just because they aren't carbon copies of Adventure 2, or Sonic 3 or whatever game you grew up with. Most new media aren't trying to be these things. I feel like most people would have less headaches meeting these projects halfway and enjoying/critiquing them for what they want to be rather than what they aren't.

It's not even necessary to do this! You don't have any prerogative to enjoy this stuff! You can just say 'its not your thing' and move on! If you're still desperately waiting for a sonic game or tv show with "passion and soul", then it might be easier to turn around 2 feet and find the MOUNTAINS of amazing fanwork being made everyday! (Or you could just play Adventure 2 for the 500th time! LOL) When Forces flopped, I really couldn't bring myself to be upset, because there was still so much to enjoy! Mania just came out and the IDW comics and movie were right around the corner!

My biggest pet peeve surrounding Sonic discussions is that everyone wants another historic disaster like Sonic 06. I really don't think something like that is ever going to happen again. Its led people to be needlessly fastidious about random stuff like the renders, or writing, or Sonic's quill length. Sometimes I wonder if my standards are too low or if I have any taste. Then, I actually think about Sonic, what I appreciate about the franchise and get excited. I like being happy about Sonic and I think my open mind about it is a good thing...
