oh right. also the game pretends my PS4 controller doesn't have the Big Rectangle Button, & maps "check" to the fuckin. share button. for some reason. I gotta remember to check whether steam's controller thingy can fix that. not the end of the world but having to use my left hand for that is WEIRD after (???) hours on the PS5....

new knowledge: to play stranger of paradise on linux and have the cutscenes actually work (& not Literally show up as a test pattern. lol), you have to use a Specific compatibility tool that's Not the one that's Built In to Steam, because, the video files, are .wmvs, that use insane person codecs, apparently.

(the built-in compatibility tool seems to have ALMOST fixed this issue, because it's annoying and also low-priority, because: only an insane person would be using .wmv files in this way in their reasonably new game. apparently.)

SoP ON LAPTOP UPDATE:

  • I did not buy this laptop with gaming in mind because I bought it before I knew about this game. the specs are ok, though. game runs at 30 without sacrificing anything I care much about
  • (1920x1080; high texture quality; 3D modeling scale at 100%; chromatic aberration (which you can turn off for some reason ?? and also probably doesn't affect the processing speed much lol))
  • It chugs pretty frequently, but NOT in fights (cutscenes start a little slideshow-esque sometimes & the menus. aren't actually necessarily responsive on the ps5 either so whatever) so. it's chill.
  • I AM curious about how much better my desktop machine would do with it, since that thing's got a 6700 XT in it. wait let me go check if I have space on my fucking. drives. 100 godforsaken GBs of Jack's Game; he's lucky I like him so much
  • no I'd have to move stuff off my SSD onto my damn hard drive first. to be fair I should probably. move my home folder onto a bigger SSD but THAT'S SO MUCH WORK
  • anyway I'll probably do that sometime so we're GOING to find out how much of the Problems are from my hardware & how much are from the compatibility layer. or the. game. I know about the inherent optimization problems already don't you worry.

#also the video files play just fine from the game folder EXCEPT there's no audio#legitimately cannot tell whether that's because something on my machine is also mad about codecs or because the audio is like. elsewhere.#sopffic#ALSO THERE IS ONE (1) .MP4 IN THERE??? EVERY OTHER FILE IS A WMV BUT THERE'S JUST. THERE'S ONE. MP4. AS WELL

screencap later but I only just noticed the COOLEST DOOR OF ALL TIME one level above that big spiral staircase where the beat drops in the chaos shrine, and that this COOLEST DOOR OF ALL TIME appears to possibly. be like. a door you use to walk OutSide onto a balcony. and that's it. NOT an entrance.

you know the door across from the "room before the throne room" door? the one you can't open ever? where there's a pink orb sometimes? it would appear that the outside of that door is decorated to hell and fuck with an awesome beast skull. and doesn't go anywhere except "outdoors for some fresh air"

ok so I just upgraded by an inadvisable number of android versions at once & what's up with how toggling stuff like bluetooth used to be a 1-tap endeavor and now it's 2. I feel like they added extra steps to everything like you HAVE to swipe the little pulldown settings menu out of the way now even though just tapping somewhere else on the screen used to work. wtf
