kill the shift manager in your brain
you are not wasting time you are vibing. you are not being unproductive you are literally chilling. make a grill cheese with cheddar cheese and slather a piece of the bread with some honey and maybe you'll relax
i know it’s been said before but, bad omens really did deserve the youngblood treatment
Not me listening to bad omens this very second, but same
I often wonder about what Edmund, Eustace, and Lucy talked about for the rest of the summer.
I imagine they're all hanging out peacefully, reading or something, and then all of the sudden Edmund's like "Hey Eustace. Do you remember that time you tried to sue King Caspian of Narnia in British court of law first thing after being fished out of the ocean?"
And Eustace gets all embarrassed and grumbles to himself, so Lucy takes pity on him and volunteers "You know, the first time Edmund went into Narnia he literally took candy from a stranger"
And Eustace now demands that they explain everything because he believes them now, and I just think it would have been really good bonding time for them
I can't believe how many people my age or younger I run into who haven't read The Chronicles of Narnia. If that describes you, you're missing out on something so deep and simple and beautiful and true that I literally can't stress this enough: please go read it. Read at least one book. They're worth their weight in gold.
I knew the films from my childhood and absolutely LOVED reading the Magician's Nephew, getting to know the backstory to Narnia and the wardrobe!
(loved the other Narnia books as well ofc)
If someone would have offerd me life long supplies of Turkish delight I would have snitched on my siblings too, Edmund, I would have done so too.
And it was enchanted Turkish Delight too!
we need more narnia fics fr
Rip To Gale, I don’t even view him as viable competition for Katniss’ affections. This is a peeta and katniss love story. Gale Is just here.
I’m so interested in how people view the Hunger Games as a love triangle because while rereading gale and katniss’s relationship feels much less like “omg are they gonna get together” and much more like “this is a story about how a close relationship can completely fall apart”
i genuinely love that the hunger games is in katniss’s pov bc shes the one character that has no clue about whats going on, clearly does not want to be there, and shes just walking through life in a permanent state of utter confusion. and idk i really relate to that.
I love that in Catching fire Katniss comes to the conclusion the other tributes are trying to keep Peeta alive because they must see how amazingly perfectly wonderful he is. When in actuality that’s just her having a crush and everyone else recognizing that if Peeta gets hurt Katniss will go fully feral and unhinged and probably try to kill everyone and then herself.
suzanne collins is such a genius... the cultural phenomena of her series leading to the hanging tree house remixes, mockingjay being milked for two (bad) movies, the capitol-inspired makeup palettes, the halloween costumes, the explosion of the market for dystopia, the butchering of her characters and removal of disabilities, disfiguration, and racial tension + representation to sell more tickets, the extra gale scenes to fuel discourse, and the audience showing up to cinemas to watch what was pretty honestly marketed to them (the jacob vs edwardification of the symbolic love story and also to watch children fight to the death) it's just so ridiculously ironic i would say you can't write this shit, but she did write about it... in The Hunger Games published 2008
it actively pains me to see that after so many years of thg being out, people still mischaracterise haymitch to be a worthless, brainless drunk, despite him being specifically shown to represent a functioning alcoholic who is protected by his addiction whilst battling it, as it hides his extreme intelligence and intel against the capitol. watering him down to hayffie when effie is a representation of everything that he had tried to drink away in his 24 years prior to his win. he fought against 47 others in a quarter quell, outsmarting the LITERAL game by using the arena against itself. being forced to watch his family die at his unknowing hand and to live with the ghost of 46 tributes that he would come to mentor. losing his childhood sweetheart. coming home with a stitched up stomach and a broken spirit at only 16, left with money to patch up wounds that cannot fix. this was a seam boy with empty pockets, the breadwinner of his barely surviving family, under attack for participating in what he knew to be human nature. finding himself scraping the bottom of a bottle for solace, semblance of peace. restraining himself in situations, attempting to be the bigger person despite his lack of sobriety, doing everything he can to keep those two kids he was able to save alive, paving them a future for themselves and the generations they would come to make. despite his faults, despite everything, through and through haymitch is to be the most well-written character of the hunger games, covered up by the stigmas and stereotypes of violence, loutishness, and aggressiveness when he was often the opposite, unless needed. he stood up against the treatment of younger victors, attempting to shield them from all that he had seen. it appalls me to not only see him completely wrecked by katniss' unreliable narrative that often villainizes and holds prejudice against his ptsd and trauma unless it suits her, but also to see the treatment of him by the hunger games fandom itself (whitewashing, mischaracterising, shipping.) there is often not a lot of content for a character so impactful, and it's simply because he's an addict. had haymitch been clean, sober, i don't doubt that he would've gotten the same treatment as peeta or finnick. he is so well-crafted, so much so and i wish that this fandom would see that, rather than leave him unadmired all because of his self-medication.
Thinking about how incredibly brave it was of Suzanne to make the main love interest a kind, sensitive, emotionally intelligent, disabled, stocky blond in 2008 when the trend at the time was skinny, tall, lanky, sarcastic, hates-everyone-but-main character, rageboy. And how absolutely genius it was to have BOTH of those types in the same series and have Katniss choose Peeta. Groundbreaking.
THE CUTEST 🥰
