Worked up? Youse think I’m gettin’ worked up? Dude! Tha’ was like, tha calmes’ thin’ I coulda said all day here!” {/She said she was calm, but she was a bubble of anxieties inside. Who was going to care for Kazma and Tea while she was gone? Who was going to text all her friends to let her know where she was? Was anyone even going to notice that she was gone? Was she going to die here with this stupid rose? These roses that symbolized life…they’re so fragile. And then there was no way to properly care for them like flowers should be cared for! They could drop dead at any given moment!}

           “H-heeh?” He jumps back a little at her outburst, hands going up to wave between them as if to declare his innocence after being accused of a crime. “Even so, it could be worse, right? This place is pretty nice.” Maybe she was right, but it’s difficult for him to be concerned. It seems all too fantastical to be serious, after all, so it must be some prank, right? Wait. “Wait. You said you were from America when we met before, right? But you already went back there since then, right? So what are you doing here, if you should be in America?” This is apparently the most pressing thing on his mind right now.

         “That’s true, I guess,” Akito responds, glancing briefly at his own rose, stem tucked a little too casually into his back pocket, “but don’t you think you’re getting a bit worked up? All things considered, this isn’t the worst place to be locked up...”

     NAME: Akito Takagi        AGE: 17        HEIGHT: 175cm (5′7)        OCCUPATION: Student, mangaka        ROSE: Cornflower        ETHNICITY: Japanese

       MORE:           Akito is an excitable individual and very passionate about anime and manga, but despite this outward appearance, he’s also very intelligent and a talented student. He doesn’t seem to care much about his success in school, though.              His English is passable, but he doesn’t like to use it. (Of course I’m willing to suspend language barrier disbelief for the purpose of threads and communication, or to play it out in all of its painful beauty).              He’s very friendly, but can be a bit clueless or blunt sometimes, accidentally hurting people just by way of saying whatever’s on his mind. Though he can be awkward sometimes, he’s fairly charismatic and manages to hide his goofy side more around strangers.

нαяυкα ωαѕи’т αт αℓℓ bothered in the least. Unlike the stranger however, the blonde seemed rather distraught by his fallen mangas and for half of the time Haru found himself merely staring as he dropped down to scramble for his precious graphic novels.
It took a couple moments before the swimmer could finally form words to offer assistance.
        “Do you… need help?”
Partially because he felt he was at a fault for not watching his own surroundings ( not that the other wasn’t just as guilty if not more ) but mainly seeing just how much he was carrying.
Not often was he ever this willing to help out a complete stranger, it even surprised himself that he’d ask such a question. However, with school done for the day same goes for club practice ( aka pool access ) the dolphin had enough time on his hands to sacrifice α ℓιттℓє вιт of his day to go συт σf нιѕ ωαу. If needed.

          He recovered quickly, it seemed, as if seeing his mangas again (like he hadn’t just seen them minutes before as they’d been placed into the bag) was all it took to cheer him up ---- indeed, it seemed as if seeing them fixed all his wounds without him even having to think about it as he scooped them back up into his arms. “That’s okay, I think, uh...” Something felt wrong, though -- his armful of books was too light, almost as if ...

     Akito’s head cocks to the side to examine the spines nestled in the crook of his arm, and it’s a couple beats before dark eyes go wide in alarm and immediately scans the area, twisting around to look behind him before exclaiming that “One’s missing!!” Another inventory of his collected mangas is taken before Akito leaps to his feet in a blind panic. “My Death Note! Where could it have gone!?” Fingers suddenly grab the other young man’s jacket, though Akito is far from aggressive -- he’s more distraught than anything as his head whips this way and that in an attempt to find the vanished volume. “Na, did you see it?! It’s gotta be here, right? Did I forget it inside?”

⋆ — Akito leaning in with curiosity was Touta’s cue to do the same, while glancing briefly back to make sure nobody was listening. Of course, the exchange taking place in a relatively quiet spot was uninteresting to most — but he still held the back of his hand to the side of his mouth, as though that was a foolproof method of retaining secrecy.
Image
  “If I told you everything, I’d have to kill you—” (that wasn’t genuine policy, of course; the threat of death simply made this feel more official); “—but I can tell you I’ve been involved in… a few paranormal things, here and there. I’ve been called out to possessed houses, and I’ve dealt with mental health cases who claimed spirits were actually speaking through them…”
  He cut himself off before mentioning the highlight of his supernatural experiences. Not merely because it was a state secret… but because he had to make sure it was relevant first. “What kind of thing do you write about already?”

          Heh?” Akito responds, and there’s a twinge of fear in his tone now -- maybe it’s thanks to his over-active imagination, but the death threat doesn’t pack away as easily as it would for most others. Still, amber hues are wide and intense, because despite the apparent danger and a nasty feeling that he’s treading somewhere that he shouldn’t be, Akito is fascinated.

Image

          “----- Are you serious? Possessed houses and spirits?” And indeed, the young student looked a little haunted himself. Coming from a trusted source -- because someone from the NPA had no reason to lie, and was certainly someone whose words Akito would trust. “So this stuff really exists? No way...”

    Still, he recovers fast, it seems, and as slim fingers lift to push his glasses back up his nose, Akito only blinks a couple times, as if to chase away the bad thoughts. “I’ve written, uhm ... I don’t suppose you’ve heard of The Two Earths? It’s a one-shot I did, where the Earth we’re on is just a clone of the real one, and we’re all clones of people on it, heh.”

         {/She could partially understand it, but the other part of her, didn’t. One half of her saw how holding hands could be ridiculous. One wouldn’t hold hands with some other girl when they’re dating someone! It was just unheard of! On the other hand, it was an innocent gesture, as done by two friends. Someone wouldn’t think twice if it were two children holding hands, so why couldn’t two teenagers simply do it, without any strings being attached at all?
    Nicole wasn’t really mad per say, but she was just shocked that he had yelled at her. She’d get over it soon enough, she just needed a moment or two to actually process her feelings. Although it’d seem she’d not get that moment anytime soon when he began speaking again. Nicole was surprised when he wanted to talk. After all the silence they had, she was positive he would have just left it alone. Not try and brush it under the rug. Although she had to give him props for trying.
    The least she could do is comply with his attempts.
    With a gentle shrug of her shoulders, she looks around for a moment, before looking at him.}
    “I travel. Like, ya know righ’ off tha ba’ I’m a foreigner. An’ tha’ I’m no’ from any place close by. I like ta travel an’ make new friends. I’s time consumin’, bu’ i’s wha’ I do fer fun.”

         “----Woah, seriously?”  It was such an unheard-of hobby for Akito -- most people said something like ‘swimming’ or ‘video games,’ but travelling was definitely new. “It’s that expensive?” He asked before thinking that that might be a little rude to ask out of the blue. Akito’s lips twisted downwards as fingers lift to scratch the back of his head again -- he seemed to just be saying all the wrong things today, and he could only hope that the apology was on his expression, because he was no good at saying them aloud.

     “I mean,” he tries again, back-pedalling furiously to try and salvage what was left of her opinion of him -- she was an important asset, after all, for their mangas and the creation of a good (and fashionable) female love interest. “That must mean you’ve got a lot of friends in Japan, right? And other countries too? ... That must be nice. Everyone always says that you need to travel to be able to write well, but I never get to travel very often! I go to Kyoto in the summer sometimes, but ...”

     Akito pauses, cupping the back of his neck and tilting his face towards the sky, because his family’s trips to Kyoto hadn't been on his mind for a long time, but now that they were ...

    “... Actually, it’s been a while, but I’ve never really travelled that far.” Especially after his dad lost his job back when Akito was in grade five. When the money stopped, so did the vacations, and the family never really picked them up after that. “... That’s really cool, though, so where have you been? England?”

        《 ☂ 》 Such a barrage of questions would render anyone speechless, so Adachi was counting on the kid not being too surprised when he just went quiet. You must have tried it — the most insightful thing Akito said so far. Tohru knew by now that the Midnight Channel didn’t work, but that still stung. If Yamano hadn’t seemed so intent on being a stain on the Earth, things might’ve worked out differently.
  Dwelling on it just made him bitter, so he was slightly dazed when he dipped a hand into his pocket for his standard-issue notebook and simply held it out. A new one, it contained nothing incriminating (not that he’d ever made extensive notes before), its pen nestled in a strap at the side.
  “Are you seriously going to write all this stuff down? I’m not sure you’re gonna make a decent story out of it. Even with all that going on, it still hasn’t been enough to make this place entertaining.” He’d swap the countryside’s quaint folklore for the city’s cold rationale any day, but this privileged kid hardly seemed the type to visit sleepy towns much.
  “If you really wanna know — no, I haven’t. You’re a little too old to be believing in kid’s stuff like that, don’t you think? And what the hell is it you’re working on, anyway? A school project for creative writing or something?”
Image

          “Eeeeh?” Akito let out, and he looked an odd mixture of confused and disappointed when the detective pulled out a notebook from his pocket. Not becuase he’s not happy that Adachi has offered him a notebook -- on the contrary; he’s overjoyed, because these ideas are good and prone to vanish -- but it feels weird to use a police notebook. A tentative hand reaches out to accept it, and Akito can’t help but notice how different the leather feels from the cheap store-brand books he’s used to. “Are you sure I can use this? Isn’t it important?”

     Still, he flips open the cover and turns a single page, like he’s testing the quality of the paper before the pad of his thumb finds where the pen is stored, and Akito draws that out instead. “Sugoi, I feel like a police officer now!” And despite his hesitation, he offers a crooked -- and almost shy -- smile to the older man. It grows a little, gleaming with a strange sort of determination as he clicks the pen -- and it sounds almost official enough to give him chills. “Waah, this is cool -- it’s like I’m doing a police interview! -- I bet you get to do this all the time, right? Lucky!

     It’s hard to write like that, with the notebook held awkwardly in his palm and wobbling each time he added any pressure to the attached pen, but one has to make sacrifices for their art, Akito decided. “--So, there’s a girl haunting a school and a TV show that shows your soulmate if you ... watch a TV at midnight, right?” Almond eyes glance up at Adachi, looking for assurance that he’d got the right info before pressing the end of the pen to his scrunched-in-thought forehead. “Even if it hasn’t made this place interesting, that doesn’t mean it couldn’t make a good story, you know! I just need to think about it ...” Though, honestly, he looked a little like he was going to blow a fuse rather than come up with any great idea. “It’s not for school,” Akito continued after a moment of silence. “I’m trying to come up with something to be serialised. My editor says that I should do something more mainstream ... My ideas are too ‘out there’ he says.” More or less, anyway. “-- I told you I’m mangaka, right? Or I’m going to be soon.”

         “–Fer holdin’ yer hand?”

     {/She saw no fault in the innocent gesture, still, if he did, she wouldn’t. Although he could have been a bit more gentle in his approach when it came to actually telling her about it. Yelling at her like that caused another sudden mood change, from that excited, joyous one to one more sullen and reserved. How was Nicole supposed to know he was going to react like that? All she knew was that he was almost as forward as she was.

        How did she know that handholding suddenly wasn’t okay?

        It was something she couldn’t really fathom for that matter. Still as he apologized, her smile didn’t come back as it did before. Nicole didn’t like being yelled at. Instead, she allowed him to bump her, as if they had been friends for a while, and she just gave a small nod. She already said she’d go, right? It’d be rude to suddenly change her plans on him like that.

        Especially since he already dragged his friend into it by calling him. So he’s probably expecting to meet her too. And chancing last minute was something she wasn’t planning on doing at all.}

     “–Yeah, I’ll still go.”

          “W-well, yeah.” Maybe it was because she was American, but it seemed perfectly normal to Akito. Man, he’d really torn it now, huh? Everything had been going so well until he’d yelled at her, but she’d startled him!! How could he explain it in a way that would make it better? ...

     Again, Akito flipped open his phone as if to check the time or a text (like there’d be one already) while debating telling Saikou that they couldn’t make it after all -- it wasn’t good to bring negative feelings into the workplace, after all (there was more than enough of that between him and his partner to go around) buthe couldn’t just tell her to leave. Akito snaps it shut and kneads the back of his neck nervously, closing one eye in contemplation as his crooked smile turned downwards again. ... What was he to do? Ah ... it was probably best to just continue on like nothing happened. This tension couldn’t continue that long, right?

     As Akito begins to walk, his head angles back slightly, watching her from the corner of his eye to make sure she was still following. Man, this was awkward now, and for all his outgoing nature, Akito was no good at amending problems like this. He was used to girls like Miyoshi just punching him and forgiving him, or Iwase asking him simple questions (that he always seemed to get wrong anyway!!) Silence was something he wasn’t really used to.

    “--- Um,” he began tentatively, scratching the skin over his cheekbone. “... So you already know a lot about me, but what do you do for fun?”

     H E A D C A N O N : NAMES.

     Akito will often refer to people like Saikou and Miyoshi to strangers and others without giving context of the name. Rather than saying “my friend” or “my girlfriend,” he’ll say the person’s name (or, in the case of Moritaka, their nickname), without any sort of explanation. This can be disorienting to people he’s speaking to who don’t know who he’s talking about, because it gives the impression that they should, or that he’s mentioned them before and they’re someone they should remember. Akito doesn’t do this on purpose, and it can be confusing, but he’ll always explain who they are if he’s asked.
     Especially in the context of Saikou (a nickname that literally means ‘the best’) it can make his sentences confusing for others to understand, i.e. “I should ask the best about today’s homework.”

         “I’m The Super High School Level Swimmer for a reason!” {/Even though she competed in other sports, there was just something about the way she swam, and the speed she captured in using her whole body to maneuver that caught people’s attention. Needless to say, the high energy girl was easily impressive, and was able to impress almost everyone who laid eyes on her.

    It was also exceedingly easy to befriend her. Such as talking about jackets.}

    “Mine too! It’s like wearing a hug, right?!”

     On that same whim, she’s giving a curious cant of her head. Sad to say, there was already someone in Hopes Peak Academy for writing Manga. Although he’s more of a Doujinshi writer……Asahina knew there was a difference. The question was, how was she to ask and explain this difference? And would Hopes Peak accept this difference?}

    “Do you do your own works? Or do you like….do fan works? Cause we already have someone who does fan works…..and besides….it takes a lot to get in! I forgot how I got in, to be honest. I just know you have to be in high school, and you have to be the absolute best at what you do.”

          S-sugoi.” It was like he was talking to some sort of celebrity, and suddenly Akito was nervous about talking to her, even though she’d been nothing but kind to him so far. “A-ah, m-my name is Takagi Akito, by the way, but you can call me Akito, or whatever you like!!” That also brought up the question of whether she was his senior or what -- and if so, shouldn’t he be talking with a little more respect? “I-I’m a second year at North High School, a-and, um, it’s a pleasure to meet you.”

     Ah! That was so random!! How embarrassing! He should have waited for later rather than introducing himself out of nowhere like that!!

     “Er-----yeah, it is!” Akito wasn’t a big hugger, but it’s not like he didn’t enjoy them -- he just wasn’t the type to hand them out, and most people pegged him as to cool to hug. “A-and, of course I do my own works! I mean, Saikou sometimes will draw characters from other mangas, but I can’t really write about things people have already done, right? Even if it’s for practise, I don’t have that much time!!” Between coming up with new ideas and writing story boards for Moritaka, there was little time left for anything fun like writing about  Dragon Ball, though now that he thought about it it might be fun. “Not like doujinshi or anything -- everything is my own ideas!”

     Though, now that he thought about it ... “I think Niidzuma Eiji is better than me, though. Do you know him? He’s in Shounen Jack a lot, and he’s the one behind the new manga Crow. He’s my rival, but he’s winning hands down.”
