Kanej and Royai

Just me exploring some parallels of my two fave ships, Kanej (Six of Crows duology) and Royai (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood/manga) // ⚠ spoiler warning for both //

  • Power couples, hands down
  • the BANTERS
  • Bastard of the Barrel/Dog of the Military with absolute queens for their right hand woman
  • Boyfriend-who-plans-impossible-heists and Tired-of-his-shit-but-loves-him-anyway-Girlfriend
  • Loyal group of friends (The Crows/Musgang yeah I'm calling it that) shipping hard in the background and going just get together already
  • Kaz and Roy both climbing their ranks at young ages
  • Inej and Riza have hearts of gold ♥ Traumas in their pasts, although they are not the same (I could say a slightly common theme of having their bodies used against their consent - Inej's is more horrifying, but Riza's could not have been any less traumatic with the burden she had to bear on her bare skin)
  • Calling your s/o Lieutenant/Wraith but we know it ultimately translates to treasure of my heart ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
  • Roy rushes to save Riza the second he knows she's in danger while on the phone, his cover be damned, probably cursing himself for having her in this dangerous operation of drawing out a homunculus (though he knows she's perfectly capable). The first thing Kaz does after escaping from Pekka and Van Eck (covered in sawdust and gravy, no less) is get as fast as he can to Inej, fearing the worst outcome of her fight against Dunyasha, and cursing himself for not putting that damned net in place.
  • Both Kaz and Roy use gloves, but for very different reasons, ofc
  • Kaz and Roy strolling through the city in their black overcoats looking like bats
  • .....Bleeding to death in your beloved's arms :))
  • One rips a guy's eyeball out because they stabbed his girl and the other starts burning homunculi to a crisp. I could say killing Lust was done out of necessity, but Riza (and Al) was in danger, and before Roy went berserk on Envy, remember just how angry he was when he caught Envy injuring Riza when she followed him underground.
  • Riza going apeshit on Lust when she tells her she has killed Roy / Inej ready to paint the Barrel red with the Dreg's carcasses because they're on the verge of killing Kaz
  • Riza's eye signal to Roy in the final season, which he understood and trusted in even as she lay horribly injured and chose not to save her/ Kaz's split second glance at Inej while he's lying battered and bloodied in his fight with the Dregs in Crooked Kingdom, and she trusts in him and doesn't go to help either
  • It's almost taken for granted that if Kaz/Roy is there, Inej/Riza ought to be close by
  • Kaz and Roy are both orphans? :( Although Roy has been much luckier in most regards
  • Roy basically calling Riza his Queen as he compares his team to chessboard pieces/ 'We'll be Kings and Queens Inej, Kings and Queens.' Heck, even Pekka Rollins calls her Kaz's 'Wraith Queen'
  • From FMA manga: Riza's reunion with Roy in Ishval happened after she basically saved his (and Hughes') life by shooting down an Ishvalan who suddenly attacked them from behind and they were caught unprepared. From Shadow and Bone (TV adaptation): Inej kills for the first time to save Kaz's life, forsaking her personal morals, throwing a knife at an Inferni about to end Kaz who was hurt and practically defenseless
  • Both men are complete idiots as to how appallingly obvious they are about their feelings for their women. Bradley straight up snatches Riza and puts her under his direct observation as a power move against Roy to keep him in line (quote from Brotherhood: "I know just who to use as your weak point" *cue Roy's shocked pikachu face*). It only takes one involuntary panicked glance at Inej by Kaz for Van Eck to put two and two together and he has her kidnapped to have Kaz meet his demands.
  • Both pairs, though with different motives and methods, are basically working to make their respective worlds a safer place for the innocent and hold those who have wronged people accountable for their actions.
  • Self indulgent but don't tell me i'm wrong: Roy buying Riza all the flowers from the cart // Kaz would definitely give Inej geraniums and whatever else she loves every chance he gets, maybe an entire gondola's worth at a time
