Is it just me or the songs on The Tortured Poets Department sound the same? It's like they all blend together at some point....at first listen there is not one song stuck in my head. And this is coming from someone who genuinely enjoys her music ...Red is one of my faves. You could swap the songs from Midnights and TTPD and I wouldn't be able to tell. I think she should start working with a new producer. Although I stopped being a fan since the breakup, I was still looking forward to new music .... I was excited for what new sound she would explore but it was disappointing to hear the same old repetitive Jack Antonoff synth pop genre.

She probably needs a break .... all this hyper production in the past few years with so many albums and their multiple versions must have had an impact on her creativity and quality...also a lot of lyrics are just......eh I don't know the right words, but she can do better for an artist of her magnitude and caliber.

Also, I feel like the aesthetic for the album does not match the music...like the dark academia/old books thing doesn't really go with the songs for me. Again, they sound a lot like something from Midnights due to the production so probably that's why I feel like that.

Another thing, the album seems to be mostly about the 1975 dude, but the marketing pointed to Joe Alwyn which led to him being harassed by her fans and she did nothing. That was horrible of her. It's these kinds of things that led me to leave that fandom. Even Ariana put out a statement when she released her new album.

Overall, I expected a better album from her. She really needs to take a break. The overexposure and overproduction are not looking good.

did you guys notice that the main theme she put about her relationship with joe in this album was that it felt like a cage to her because he was depressed. the song, so long london makes me feel so sorry for joe because she is resenting him for having his blue days and not snapping out of his depression faster so that she can have a perfect wedding. it's so insensitive given how joe was there for her during her darkest days and pulled her out of it, deleted her social media apps so she wouldn’t see the mean things people say about her etc etc. he was there for her when nobody else was. but she couldn’t be there for him when it was his time. she got bored and started rekindling her fling with matty when joe was dealing with his issues on his own. and she wonders why he wouldn’t marry her?

the worst thing happened after the breakup. she knows that joe deals with depression and yet she sent her fans after him to harass him on a daily basis for a whole year! she used the cheating rumours as a marketing scheme to release an album about matty. she let her fans harass any woman that worked with joe. how can a person be so vile?

Guilty as Sin? is a song about Taylor Swift emotionally cheating on her partner.

Where are the Swifties who launched a hate campaign against Joe Alwyn and his female co-stars? Ya'll are awfully quiet now.

very sexy of joe alwyn to have the eyes of millions of prying swifties on him for months and to only ever be like "btw you should care about gaza"

i will die on that hill that taylor and joe didn't work out because at the end of the day, taylor's activism era was not genuine and she will always give into the industry and prioritize capitalism. meanwhile joe has consistently been low-key for the sake of not feeding into media frenzy and not allowing the industry to consume him and his morals (i.e. constantly posting about palestine). meanwhile, taylor hasn't uttered a word. not just about palestine, but about any sort of activism really. and she's just making billions via her 147859 vinyls and contributing to the fame of the disgusting NFL via her problematic ass boyfriend.

it is not easy to maintain a relationship with someone who has different morals and priorities than you. that's it. that's what ended the relationship lol.

So what I'm gathering so far is Joe Alwyn's biggest crimes are apparently not wanting to marry her and... having depression?

yes...and she made him go through hell for that....

All this joe hate is insane and unwarranted but also from what I understand, he never held her back or hid her at any point. He was the one staying private, or trying to. She never stopped touring and flying around after him or releasing music. She won Grammys (for his cowork!) during the pandemic ffs. she made a full documentary and joe didn’t stop her, he just hid out of frame and still ended up 2nd billing on letterboxd. His only crime was having morals that he stuck to. I’m surprised they lasted as long as they did.

Exactly. I blame the pandemic and the lockdowns for them lasting 6 years. They are so incredibly incompatible.

They agreed on a lifestyle. She changed, he didn't ! That's it, that's his only "crime".

Shoutout to joe! Time really does heal all wounds (alwyn wounds idk) 6 years with her and he probably realized all he had to do was keep his mouth shut while Taylor ruined everything herself. He is truly the bigger man.

I never saw him reacting to this in the first place but he’s definitely held his ground on not giving into what she wants him to do.

A swiftie sits next to joe alwyn at a restaurant, snaps a picture of him, and tweets “in honor of the end of joe alwyn here’s us in london sitting next to him.”

then in her next tweet she complains about him having “fans”

swifties = demented white women.

Swifties were excited to find evidence on TTPD of Joe cheating only to stumble upon evidence that points to Taylor cheating.

I’m badly gonna lose my Swiftie card. But Taylor emotionally cheating on Joe Alwyn at his lowest is so sad knowing how he loved and stood by her when she was at her lowest. She never owed him her waiting on him, but boy does it not make the situation less heartbreaking. It even makes you question the whole philosophy of love being selfless…

Love these intelligent fans of hers. Why couldn't Taylor be like this?

You know, it's rather interesting to me that Taylor Swift's parasocial relationship with her fans is honestly more akin to a YouTuber than a writer's. When I scroll through her tag on tumblr/Twitter, it's far more regarding the connection to her personal life/relationship developments than the actual metaphors/fictional story she might be telling. Everything comes back to how her songs reflect back on her relationships with Joe/Matty/Travis/Jake/insert ex-boyfriend here. And what fascinates me about it is that even though she complains about it, she leans into that very perception because it strengthens the parasocial bond.

The marketing for TTPD so clearly being about Joe Alwyn and the songs to Matty Healy. The marketing/video for Red TV so CLEARLY being about Jake Gyllenhaal, with so many of the new lines in All Too Well specifically being digs at him (I'll get older but your lovers stay my age, casting an actor that looks like him for the video, specific lines in I Bet You Think About Me). The fact that songs like Getaway Car and Bejeweled and Gorgeous and London Boy and Lavender Haze being picked apart at time of release and long after for signs of relationships crumbling. The way she uses surprise songs in relation to her relationship development with Joe/Matty/Travis. The damn TTPD "stages of grief" playlists where she deliberately undid/changed the meanings of old songs just to keep her audience speculating on her love life.

It's not sexist to point out that her wielding her love life is a marketing tool and that the strongest connection to her audience isn't the strength of her writing/the composition of her music- it's her deliberate crafting of a connection between her music and her personal life, leaving the audience invested in her music as an extension of Taylor the Person/Girlfriend rather than Taylor the Artist.
