Yes, the frame cut was intended this way so there's no other versions! The accent of this artwork is on Ghost's back where the King's brand on the shell is visible.
In "Wanderer's Notes" au this brand is almost like it's own form of seal or curse to Ghost. He feels like his life and destiny is still owned by causes of his birth. He still feels like a tool despite everything he went through to gain his personality and chose his own gender. He learnt so much but for what..? There's no Hallownest the way it used to be, nothing to save if he had to be fair.
A bit of spoilers about this au but during his pilgrimage after being exalted far far away by delicate flower (godhome ending) he learnt too many details about the world in general to blame anyone or anything. All of this is simple unfortunate pain.
