So... kinda important update.

Before you panic I’m not going to stop this blog or anything, I’m still planning on chugging along just fine. And I’m still staying in the fandom. But unfortunately I’m not going to be as active on Tumblr as I have been lately. Quotes will still be provided on a twice daily basis but things like my fics or just reblogging stuff on Tumblr is going to be much slower. That’s because I’m actually going to be working on a novel over the course of the summer, and it should be done towards the end of August. So that means Unknown Variable is going to slow down as well as fanart and other such things, but hopefully this will all be worth it. I’ll probably be posting about my writing on my main @coffeewolf54. I’m going to be fine and I hope you all the best while I sort of go on a break to work on something I’ve wanted to do for a while.

Thank you for understanding, and I hope you’ll enjoy what I make.

The “is this a pigeon” meme with the speaker labeled “radical social justice spaces” asking, “Is this accountability?”

The butterfly is covered up with a large thought bubble that says, “Completely obliterating a trans woman’s entire support network leaving her a traumatized bundle of nerves who feels like she’ll never have any community because you’ve convinced her she’s a monster.”

WATCH THIS VIDEO

a very, VERY important post. spread everywhere and screen record the video to your phone. or message me and ill happily send you the video. give to every woman and girl you know.

bc as they both said / demonstrated, its not only super easy to do, but super easy to miss.

Ladies be aware and careful. Guys call out assholes who even think about doing that to someone.

And not just ladies. Last time I circulated one of these sorts of post, a gay male friend mentioned a similar thing happening both to him and somebody he knew.

I think one element of Israeli propaganda that a lot people are unintentionally aligning themselves with is the idea of Gaza as the main target of Israeli violence. During the "truce" even, so many people talking about how it was a "pause" even though people in the West Bank, Damascus, and Lebanon were still being killed by Israeli forces because the "truce" was only negotiated for Gaza (where it was also not adhered to). But as a Lebanese person with family in Lebanon and Palestinian loved ones, I need people to remember that Gaza is not a state. Gaza isn't a country. Israel won't destroy Gaza and call it a day as if Gaza is their main goal because it's not. It's "from the river to the sea Palestine will be free" because the free Palestine movement is about ending Israeli occupation of all Palestine and surrounding countries. It's not a reform movement about getting Israel to behave. It's an anti-colonial movement that aims to give ALL of Palestine back to Palestinians. Of course, the extreme violence Israel is enacting on Palestinians in Gaza is horrific. it's also obvious Israel is relying on the horror it's caused in Gaza to distract people from holding them to account for their ongoing violence in the rest of Palestine, as well as Lebanon, Syria and the Congo. Israel divided Palestine up so the world would forget it, don't be party to that. Talk about Gaza, the West Bank, Jenin, Hebron because it's all Palestine and all of it must be free. End the occupation. End the apartheid state of Israel.

Don’t forget that the US civil rights bill only passed after six weeks of rioting that were the direct result of MLK’s murder. Peaceful protest paved the way, but violent protest got it over the finish line.

It’s understandable why the state would not want you know that, but that’s also why it’s imperative that you do.

king's family doesn't "believe" the FBI killed him, they know it for fact because the FBI admitted to it in a civil case brought against them in the early 90s. the court documents are a matter of public record. read them yourself. the king family won that suit against the united states fucking government for assassinating martin luther king jr

oh you're pro palestine? are you normal about black palestinians?

okay but no seriously like how many times do we have to keep saying "palestinians are EXTREMELY diverse and many are from multiethnic backgrounds" only for some of yall to be like "palestinians are brown arabs indigenous to the land and anyone else does not belong on that land!" to try to make fun of people with light features for being european settlers (which btw, MANY palestinians are light haired, light eyed, and light skinned) and then trying to insist that black palestinians are not actually palestinian as if 'palestinian' is a race and has specific characteristics- like hellooooo you guys are inventing eugenics every other week..

I think it’s right to emphasize that Palestinian men don’t deserve this and it’s also right to rally around Palestinian children, children being the most vulnerable members of any society and also being half of Gaza’s population

Like particularly in the case of Palestine. The idea that we, Palestinian adults, are uniquely hateful towards Palestinian children, and that Palestinian children come out of the womb clamoring for blood, is pretty integral to how Palestinians are dehumanized. Israeli politicians from Golda Meir to Ayelet Shaked have said as much, and Palestinian children are the only group of children in the world to be tried in military courts.

I think maybe the fact that a group of Palestinian kids sheltering in a hospital held a makeshift press conference in English and the gist of it was “can you please stop letting us get killed? We want to go to school” was forgotten a bit too fast

not to sound old fashioned or whatever but getting rid of payphones is a mistake, and the only reason we should do it is if we're replacing them with free, public use phones. Having the ability to reach out to others in every place of public congress and transit is an important safety feature and the advent and adoption of smartphones does not negate their utility.

I know i've already lost this battle, so it's somewhat pointless to say, but smartphones die. chargers aren't always there. smartphones break. some people don't have them. Being able to call someone and ask for help, to get in touch with friends and family, without relying on something you yourself own, is a societal good.

Furthermore, expecting everybody to have a single piece of fragile technology on them at all times to the point that critical services are not available without them is truly mind-boggling to me. This goes for things like restaurant menus and transit maps as well. you should be able to navigate the world without a brick made by Apple or Samsung, and if you can't, then something is fundamentally broken. It's one thing for new technology to augment an existing real-world experience, it's another thing to usurp it entirely.

Now a new study looking at 400,000 youths from 88 countries around the world suggests such bans are making a difference in reducing youth violence. It marks the first systematic assessment of whether an association exists between a ban on corporal punishment and the frequency in which adolescents get into fights.

[F]or both boys and girls, [prof. Elizabeth Gershoff] said, “We found [spanking] linked to more aggression, more delinquent behavior, more mental health problems, worse relationships with parents, and putting the children at higher risk for physical abuse from their parents.”

“People often ask: Why didn’t you look for positive aspects?” she continued. “My answer is: We did, and there were none. We see consistently that the more children are spanked, the more behavioral problems they have in the years ahead.”

Once again worth emphasizing that this is pretty much the exact opposite of what authoritarians said would happen

Halli @ iamharaldur It's been almost 20 years since I visited Palestine but I still remember every single detail. The intense poverty, rationed water, broken roads, no greenery, only desert. There were check points everywhere where we had to show armed Israeli soldiers our papers. Even as a tourist it felt like a prison.

The most surreal part of the trip was driving for less than an hour to Tel Aviv. As we crossed over to Israel the whole scenery changed completely. The desert turned green as irrigated pastures were all around us. A few kilometers away you couldn't get water, now suddenly there were water parks. We went to a mall. Gucci, Chanel. All the fanciest things were there for sale. It was as clear as day.

On one side there were prisoners living in squalor. On the other side their captors living in luxury.

I went there expecting to see nuance and complication.

I left there with absolute certainty of which side has power and which side is powerless. /End ID]

I always hate it when people are all “so do you go to school, or are you working, or” and I either have to

  • make up some lie, or
  • eventually get around to “I am not working because of depression/anxiety,” and subsequently have to deal with whatever bullshit-riddled and completely unsolicited opinions on mental illness this stranger feels obligated to share with me.

So my therapist was like, “You don’t have to do either. You can just say you haven’t worked in a while because you’re recovering from an illness.”

I tried it when the home inspector was here today, and it fucking worked. He was like, “oh, I’m sorry, are you doing better now,” and I’m like yeah, and don’t worry, it’s not contagious, awkward laugh, and we moved on.

MY THERAPIST. IS A GENIUS. Because it is an illness, so it’s not a lie to say that, and it’s also none of his business to know specifically what it is, and I clearly don’t want to give more details, so we should move on from this topic. MY THERAPIST IS A GODDAMN GENIUS.

Dude I needed this. I never know what to say when people ask if I work because I’m severely disabled and don’t work.

REBLOG TO SAVE A LIFE HOLY SHIT

To add, this works on job interviews too.  I once had to answer the ‘so whats up with this gap of 8 months in your resume where you were unemployed?” and I just said I had suffered an illness and I needed time to recover.

It’s easy enough, not a lie, and puts them on edge enough that they usually don’t go digging.

It feels taboo as a childfree person to admit this but I actually do have concerns about who is going to take care of me when I'm old. The elder care system in our nation relies A LOT on the unpaid care labor of adult children. I just don't think that's a good reason to have kids.

"But you'll have more money!" does not completely put this to rest for me. Neither does "Buy care insurance!" Even if I can afford direct personal care, who is going to advocate for me to get it? Who is going to navigate bureaucracy for me when I'm 80?

"If you do have kids, there's no GUARANTEE that they'll take care of you when your old!" That's true, but doesn't solve my problem.

I think childfree people get very defensive about this question because its used as a kind of "gotcha!" against us, but I actually do not feel we can afford to be in denial about this reality. Based on current trends of more people in their 30s stating they intend to be permanently childfree, we are going to see a huge wave of childfree adults hitting the eldercare system at once in a few decades. Childfree people in their 30s should be advocating around eldercare NOW.

We desperately need to cultivate a society in which everyone, even the most bitter, unlikeable, miserably lonely person in the world, has a social safety net that they can rely on from the day they're born to the day they die, and that includes their elder care.

We are not going to achieve this meaningfully under capitalism. :')

You need to be thinking about being too incapacitated to care for yourself now. Sorry to be a downer on main but within two weeks, my husband was completely illiterate. The cancer shut off his higher order brain functions like it was a switch. From a high functioning engineer to not understanding what his phone was in 14 days. You have no idea how much a sick person in the hospital needs a health advocate just for mundane things like bathing and being fed. I think about what's going to happen to me when my mom dies. The outcome sure doesn't look good under capitalism. 🙃

A gentle reminder to fill out a personal care directive form. The best New Year's resolution you can achieve in 2024. Get on it.

When South Africa dismantled apartheid, it did not end with the expulsion of all white South Africans. They became part of the new South Africa, just without the criminal discriminatory oligarchic powers the apartheid goverment had. When Bolivia recognized its indigenous heritage and became a plurinational state, it did not mean that people of European descent were expelled in masse. It meant the recognition of the previously discriminated indigenous and mestizo people of Bolivia and the beginning of a path of integration and revalidation.

What I mean is that it's ridiculous to think that decolonization inherently means mass suffering and relocation, that's what colonization does. Decolonization is recognizing the crimes of colonization, but more importantly, material, political and social steps to give power and self-determination to the exploited native people who were victims of colonialism and imperialism.

In multicultural societies, you don't go like in that Peter Griffin meme with a skin tone chart and saying 'well, you go back to Europe, you go back to Africa, you stay here'. You build a new society on the paradigm of dignity for exploited people and equality under the law. People are acting like this is some sort of fantastic utopia instead of real initiatives that were done in living memory, with successes and failures, as all such initiatives have. One must ask why are some so insistent that multicultural societies can't thrive, especially when for most of history, societies were indeed like that. Consider why you think like that.
