shauna’s deepest rooted issue is wanting to be chosen by someone and feeling like that never happens. it manifests itself in resentment and jealousy over people, especially her loved ones so she hurts them and then even being willing to want to be chosen by the ‘wilderness’ that she was just downing the others for believing in and saying it’s crazy because she wants some sort of love and adoration and feels deprived of it. but I think what makes it devastating to me is this issue on top of her repressing/ bottling everything up is the tunnel vision that led to her blowup with Jackie. because while their friendship wasn’t healthy, jackie always chose and wanted shauna over anything else. jackie wasn’t distressed over the possibility of never seeing her boyfriend of years, who had just said that he loves her, again. but she Was distressed over shauna possibly hiding things from her/lying to her and the idea of shauna not wanting to be her best friend. she didn’t like Jeff, let alone love him, but she loved shauna. when she found out that shauna slept with him there was no focus on him, there was no “why would you do this you know I loved him”, but there was an underlying “why would you do this to me, I loved you” based on principle. but shauna was right, jackie didn’t / didn’t intend to make her feel invisible with everything in her life. she wanted the exact opposite. shauna did have someone who chose her and saw her, her bottled up resentment and jealousy just blinded her.

i absolutely love how Shauna is so nurture-coded (mother X2, housewife, always cooking, round face, sweet voice) and is the absolute fucking worst nurturer. shauna is the most destructive and deranged person on the entire fucking show!!! she is pretending that things just keep happening to her when she is the one making them happen!!! she's a total sicko!!! she is hellbent on destroying her entire life and fuck what comes after!!!

it’s the way every yellowjacket has reacted with the exact same incredulousness to lottie being out of the institution which is making me think abt the intensity of them finding out she’d been institutionalized in the first place . what do you do when you make a prophet of a girl and then return to civilization and find that civilization has deemed her clinically insane. what do you do if you believed her and did everything she did but no one deemed you clinically insane. what do you do if you find out she’s not there anymore. she’s in the wider world again and people trust her and rely on her and you want to trust her again , so badly. what do you do if immediately on returning from the wilderness, it is recontexualized as madness and you lock onto that, and it changes how you look at everything you did, and if she’s back what does that mean about how you understood your own actions, your own belief in her, your own love of her, your own fear of how you love and fear and want to love and want to fear her

i call jackie a loser girlfailure so often because if i let myself face the affection i have for her it makes me sad. like what do you mean this girl who was so nice to everyone and who loved her best friend and her team and soccer and was excited to graduate high school and excited to go to college and excited to live her life died from hypothermia while feeling alone confused betrayed and abandoned. just because she didn't have what it takes to survive in the wilderness. the majority of people don't have what it takes, she was just the one that got unlucky enough to have to try. and she tried so hard it's heartbreaking, it was like watching an insect thrash in a spiderweb. her trying to reinvent her leadership but getting it all wrong, operating the woods like a high school that needs to have parties and dances and sleepovers. it was her unconscious escapism from having to face actually losing all that, and she had to die because of it. a seventeen year old girl died because she didn't want to trade dressing up painting nails and gossiping for the law of the jungle that was being forced on her. "she would have wanted that" they say as they eat her body and the truth is no, no she wouldn't have. she would be horrified and she would cry and sob if she knew what they did to her, because she was just a scared confused teenage girl and not a noble self-sacrificing hero or a patron saint

if they were teens in the late 2000s shauna would catfish jackie on a dating site during one of jackiejeff break ups and she would have no idea why. like she'd create an account with stolen pics of some dude who Lives Out Of State and she'd flirt with jackie to make her break up with jeff permanently and she would Not be self aware about it
