After reading the YA book series, this scene carries so much more weight. Rian has just offered to dreamfast in order to share his truth about what really happened to Gurjin and Mira. Tavra refused, stating that dreamfasting with Rian will cause them to go mad (a rumor started by the Skeksis). Despite this warning, Kylan is the first to offer his hand to Rian.

 “The Skeksis may rule the land, but they do not rule my heart.”

*slight spoiler for the YA book series if you haven’t read*

Kylan knows first hand what it’s like for others to not believe in him. When he was only a childing, his own parents were murdered by a Skeksis, “The Hunter”. But the Hunter was only a myth to his clan. His parents’ deaths were written off as an attack by some large predator that lived in the dark wood. No one–not even the Maudra that took him in–would even dreamfast with him to prove what he had witnessed.

  Since no one ever gave Kylan a chance, he was going to make darn sure that Rian DID get his chance to share his own truth.
