Wade laughed as he played along. He sighed rubbing his face with a hand and stood up. He let out a sigh and walked into the kitchen with him looking over what he had started to cook and than up to him. Wade smiled as he leaned over, one hand on the counter next to his hip. "I suppose that would mean more than a few days..." he hummed leaning closer and kissed peters lips. "Daddys missed you too..." he growled playfully at him.

He only made her smile brighter by tapping her nose. “Sweet sixteen. Not sure sure how sweet it really is though.”
She sat up a little bit and huffed a sigh. Ellie didn’t want to go back now that she’d gotten to be there with him. Even if it were just for a little bit, it wasn’t enough.
“Do we have to? I could just stay here, pretend that life was never more than an elaborate dream…”

“Not yet,” Why not yet? Did he want her to stay with him? “I don’t really think I can be around enough for you to stay anywhere yet. I travel  a lot...” He stood up and tossed the towel over the couch. He let out a sigh before putting his hoodie up over his scared head.    “We’ll take the mustang this time, gives a good impression that I’m a good person right? Or is that douche bag?”

Ellie let out a little noise and opened her eyes a little further to glance at him. A happy, drowsy smile spread across her face seeing him there.
“I actually thought you were a dream,” she muttered. Her chin quivered slightly but she held back any tears. “I’ve never woken up to something so wonderful, dad.”

Wade smiled with that. “Careful, you might make me cry too kid,” He chuckled brushing against her cheek before tapping her nose. “After all, you are 16 now.”    He sighed. He didn’t want to take her back. It was still surreal to him, to have her back around. Though he still unsure of himself, she was took beautiful to be his...    “We gotta get going kid...”

By the time he came back out, Ellie was laying on the couch with the t-shirt laying over her shoulders and arms. Her head was turned toward the television but she was dozing off, her eyes barely managing to stay open. As it turned out, she was more than comfortable laying there in Wade’s apartment.

He was about to speak up when he saw her dozing off. He frowned lightly walking over by her and set the towel down off to the side. He sat down on the coffee table and moved the shirt over her shoulders a bit more. He brushed some hair from her forehead grinning.

Ellie snickered softly and nodded. “I’ll stay right here on the couch. With the shirt.” She held her hand up and only then realized she’d still been holding onto the silly thing. Sitting back down on the couch, she put her heels on the floor beside her feet and leaned back. “How would you have the papers already? …Psychic papers like Dr. Who?”

He snorted watching in the bathroom and shut the door. “I wish!” He shouted back to her as he started it up.    About 30 minutes later, he came out from the hallway with a towel over his head in jeans and a hoodie. He knew sometime soon, he would have to explain things to Peter, but that can be another day, one surprise at a time.

“It’s your home none the less,” He rubbed the back of his head. “Just..watch some Tv and I’ll get things ready…okay kid?” He grinned looking down at her. “But you gotta keep who I am to you a secret…”    He put his hand out, pinky outstretched to her. He grinned nervously knowing it was a childish thing to off her.

“Yeah okay.” She grinned brightly at him and put her pinky with his. It was childish but it was cute and she liked it.

Ellie tilted her head. “So, what do I tell them when they ask who you are to me? I could get really squirrely and tell them you’re my boyfriend but that might be a little Lannister-y. Wouldn’t it?”

“Yeah, let’s not do that,” He chuckled. “You can tell them I’m a volunteer from your school, I got papers to back they up if they need it,” HE took off his suit top to reveal his sport under black shirt. He sighed. “Stay put and don’t go digging through my stuff...atleast not yet.”

Ellie didn’t press it even though she wanted to test it right then and there. She knew it could be dangerous if she were wrong. “So we’ll likely have centuries together… I like that.”
She groaned at the mention of school but smiled. Maybe this wasn’t so bad after all. “My foster home? I don’t think you’ll want to be there. It’s not terrible but it’s not great either. The Carmichael’s are a nice family but they like problem children.”

“It’s your home none the less,” He rubbed the back of his head. “Just..watch some Tv and I’ll get things ready...okay kid?” He grinned looking down at her. “But you gotta keep who I am to you a secret...”    He put his hand out, pinky outstretched to her. He grinned nervously knowing it was a childish thing to off her.

She sighed at the fingers in her hair and closed her eyes for a second. He was warm, comforting. It was all she’d dreamed of.
“I’ll pretend but that doesn’t mean I won’t come here.” A slight snort left her, prompting a smirk. “I’m fairly certain I’m… like you in that I can’t die. They’d have to try hard.”
Not that Eleanor was going to advertise it. Giving him another look, she let her shoulders fall. “In that case… what now?”

Wade frowned at that. “Like me huh?” He shook his head. “Its a strange life if you do...I don’t age Ellie,” He smiled sadly. “But we will test that theory another day...” He looked around before sighing.   “Guess we should get you home, school will be out soon,” He took his arms off from around her smiling. “I need to change out of this, gotta make a good impression with your foster home right?”

“I can give you five years but I’m adamant about my choice. Dad, I wasn’t lying about five. Five heads. On me.”
She touched his hand and sighed softly. Five years was a long time where so many things could go so terribly wrong and she didn’t know if she could keep it.
“I give you five years but what does that mean for us? Are you going to leave me again?”

He grinned. “You know where I live now, at least for this city,” He chuckled staring down at her. “I’m not leaving you, you might not see me, but you’ll know I’m there...but you have to pretend you don’t know that...” He whispered before running a hand through her hair.    “Yeah I know who have a count on you, there is only a few who think you are still alive...I want them to keep guessing.”    He grinned lightly, hoping she would get that. It was a dangerous life, they couldn’t make mistakes now.

Feeling him hugging her, Eleanor whined softly and hugged him tightly. She didn’t want to let go of him. Why couldn’t moments like this last forever?
“I’m safest with you,” she muttered. It took everything in her not to break down and cry as hard as she could but she wanted to hear what he had to say. “What would that be?”
She was cautious. This could spear her heart and she knew it.

He loosened his hold on her and looked her in her eyes. He put a hand to her cheek, letting his thumb run over her cheek. “...You finish school, graduate, research more into the crime industry, all of it if you want, but make this choice when you are older...when you learn more about it., from both sides, I’ll be there when you turn 21 to decide,” He licked his lips. “Give me this, just this about of time, five years, that’s all I ask...”    He furrowed his brow’s. He only needed time, she did too, to understand. Maybe this will do, maybe this will help. Her mother would kill him over and over again if he didn’t give her this chance...

“That’s funny considering that nothing I do is good enough. I can’t even get adopted,” she huffed. “I don’t care if you didn’t graduate, that doesn’t mean you can’t be a dad.”
Feeling his hands fall on her shoulders, Eleanor was almost certain she was making her way to an impasse with him. She blinked and turned her head away for a moment, one of the tears finally starting down her cheek. Maybe it was a good thing she wore waterproof makeup.
“I don’t care about any of that. I just want you to be my dad and stop running away from me. …What did I do to deserve that?”

“I’m not running from you...I’ve never wanted to run from you,” He gripped her shoulder harder at that. He pulled her into him and hugged her close, putting a hand on the back of her head. “but as your...dad, I have to keep you safe. That I know I can do.”    He whispered before kissing the top of her head. He closed his eyes keeping his lips there, just to hold her. His little girl. His daughter. He only first new true love when she came into his life.    “I’ll...I’ll promise you something,” He whispered hopeful.

“Why not?! Why am I not good enough for you? All I want is for you to be there, that’s it.” Eleanor matched him in volume and stood the second she was finished with the last sentence. As short as she was, she wasn’t very intimidating but that didn’t matter.
Dark eyes narrowed and she straightened her spine, an unreadable glint appearing in watering eyes. “If it gets your attention, I’ll keep doing it. If it’s the only way to get your attention, then I’ll have the highest head count on me of any mercenary.”
Her grip on the t-shirt tightened and Ellie took a step toward him. “The only thing I have to lose is you and I’ve lost you time and time again. I’ve watched you turn your back on me and leave before and I’ll fight back as needed.”
Eleanor never once let go of the shirt.

Wade let out a frustrated sigh.     “It isn’t about you being good enough, you have ALWAYS been good enough El,” He sadly frowned looking down at her. “I’m going to be there, but I’m going to be there the only way I can be. You have to understand that. I don’t eat ceral at the table in the morning, I don’t shit down to help with homework. I didn’t even fucking graduate!” He laughed shaking his head. He walked around to her, putting his hands on her shoulders.    “I’m not who you have imagined over the years...I never have been,” He whispered. “I only eat tacos, drink beer...I don’t know anything about raising you or any other kids,” He didn’t want her to cry, she couldn’t cry on him now. The headache too...

No! That wasn’t fair. She wanted to cry and beg him to let her stay around him but Ellie choked that back and swallowed it down.
“I’m not going back anywhere. I want my father in my life, that’s all I’ve ever wanted. Even for the simple things - talking to my prom date, getting on to me for leaving the milk out, for not passing a quiz, having my heart broken by a wayward date mate… I could go on.”
Dark eyes didn’t leave him but Eleanor decided to take that leap. She knew she had to. “And if I want to be the best mercenary that’s ever lived? Better than you?”

“I’m not your father!” He shouted own at her, standing up slowly. “I didn’t raise you, I wasn’t there when you learned to walk, speak, run. When you had nightmares, I wasn’t there, I didn’t help you when you fell down, or shouted at you for leaving the milk out and I never will be!”    He took a deep breath at the mention of being like him. “...you don’t want this Ellie, you have so much at your finger tips to be like me...” He looked down at the swords on the table and then back to her. “You loose part of yourself each time and the closer they are to you, the worst it is.”              Experience is his closest lesson.
