In the United States itās slightly different state by state but generally if you sue you have to prove: 1. someone made a false statement about you. 2 other people heard it or read it. 3. it harmed your reputation. That last requirement really gets tricky because you really do have to prove that you were harmed in some wayā¦like you lost a job or an opportunity or something.
In UK, itās much easier to win a defamation lawsuit. you (the person suing) donāt have to prove the statement made about you is false. Instead, the person youāre suing has to show they werenāt lying about you/what they said was actually true. Itās a lot easier to win because you as the plaintiff donāt have the burden of proof.
One of the best and funniest things my cat does is that when sheās annoyed at my dog she will turn to the dog and hiss (itās all very performative and lazy, they are besties) and then she will turn to me and slow blink at me to make sure I know sheās mad at the dog and weāre still cool. I have a trial and you will not believe the facts which are that a b list actor is refusing to pay his agents because he claims they wronged him by āforcing himā to issue PR statements he didnāt agree with and that violated his rights. (what actually happened is he said a bunch of racist things and they told him the best way to manage the crisis is to issue an apology and they wrote it for him and he voluntarily issued it and now heās sad he didnāt go full right wing and get conservative moneyā¦.)
Went on twitter today and boom! saw DT trending, I thought wtf, I read Thea like morning paper and there was nothing trend worthy with DT today, but seems his answer to the gender question at that meet&greet was filmed (though I heard people say they were forbidden from filming or using phones at all there) and widely shared, and now there's a terf pile on to rival the one after the t-shirtgate at the GO2 premier. the funny thing is I saw some of them think the filmed bit is from a 'trans cult' meeting where he was, like, sermonizing for 'mutilating children', and the fan dressed as muriel is someone dressed as a soldier of british empire with mocking purposes... The amount of funny crazy stuff I learn following these old men's careers, evil omnipresent pr, multiple times olympic medallists baby trapping wives, trans cult meetings spitting on the british legacy to boot... they seem to moonlight as showcases for human stupidity when they're not acting
