When We’re Together - Instruments removed! Acappella track!!

Dear everyone,

I succeeded in removing the instruments from When We’re Together, creating an a cappella track of Idina and Kristen’s voices!!

It was WAY easier than I expected, so much so that I was successful on the first try! If you want to know the details of how I did it, message me.

Give me some time to make a piano recording to this vocal track!

Frozen in Disneyland Paris' Illuminations

I've recently learned that there are 3 and a half minutes of Frozen (I) in Disneyland Paris' Illuminations show. Its not a new show (2017), but now you can watch a professionally shot video (below). I've cut out the Frozen segment in the video above.

There are 3 segments corresponding to 3 songs (in French) - Let It Go, For The First Time In Forever (reprise) which culminates in Anna freezing, and Anna thawing which ends with Vuelie (reprise).

An utterly awesome burst of fireworks accompanies the first LET IT GO!!!!

The cold never bothered me anyway...

They got rid of a clock tower

Anna: We should destroy the entire clock tower so we lose track of time and don’t realize how long this quarantine will become 

Elsa, next to her at the council table: We what now

Anna, giving a speech in the castle courtyard to the citizens: For one of my official decrees during this pandemic, I now announce that during this long period of quarantine, time is now no longer relevant and we should take the clocktower and just push it into the dang ocean. We have no use for it anymore.

Elsa, listening from a distance, sitting on top of Nøkk: Oh my god Anna.

Nøkk *Internally*: SHE WANTS TO PUSH WHAT IN HERE???

Elsa, nervously: Nahhh she’s kidding she’s surely kidding *clumsily pats Nokk to calm them down*

Anna never liked the clock tower anyway. It’s not like anything good ever happened to her when she climbed it.

just want to clarify, the clock tower IS there, it’s just moved a bit to the left, i’m guessing it’s because they put a lot of effort into frozen 2 and had a full crew, where these are just shorts which are more to entertain than to be accurate.

as we can see here, it looks like the clock tower completely disappeared but if you look closer you can see the edge of it.

so basically they just made a small mistake with the placement of the clock tower 😂 hope this helped!

I bet that Anna is making fun of control-freak Elsa with all these changes. Every time her older sister visits, she is disoriented.

“Never”

“Weren’t family paintings in this other room?”

“Did you order to cut some trees next to a fjord?”

“Absolutely not”

I love doing this.

1. The portraits and the clock don’t belong there

Where’s Olaf at? Based on the appearance of the 2 stained glass windows on either side of a door, I’d say he’s at the same place where Elsa sang “the winds are restless, could that be why I’m hearing this call” in Some Things Never Change (see gif below)

Additional evidence that they were at the same place: Olaf and Elsa were both looking at the town from their vantage point.

Inside the room behind Olaf, you can see the portrait of the 5 main characters on the left, and the portrait of the royal family with young Elsa and Anna on the right. (white arrows) and a clock (yellow circle)

But in the scene with Elsa, what’s behind her is a room and a door to that room. (over-brightened screencap below; you can also see it in the gif)

Where can we see those 2 portraits and the clock? In the council chamber ie the room where Elsa walked to during Into the Unknown and then burst out onto the balcony. You can see it below (and the clock looks slightly different too)

So looks like the internal rooms of this magical castle changed on their own :) of course, you could say that Queen Anna changed the position of the portraits. (Olaf is not in the council chamber, because council chamber balcony faces the North ie towards the fjord and Enchanted forest/Ahtohallan; he was facing the town which is East)

2. No castle decorations

There’s a lot to talk about in this shot. Firstly - there’s no icy castle decorations!! But we know that when Anna became Queen, the castle still had Elsa’s decorations. See the decorations in this screencap taken just before Anna comes out of her tent (you can see the tent to the right of the middle):

The black arrow is pointing to a lighthouse. I have circled the lighthouse in red and the red line shows the line of sight from where Olaf is to the lighthouse.

(BTW, there are 2 possible locations where Olaf is in the castle - the red circle above or the purple circle below. I don’t think he’s at the purple circle because he wouldn’t have such a good view of the town from that lower vantage point. And he’s short…)

Moving on, the white arrow points to a “castle wall tower” which you can see if you follow my red line (line of sight). I feel that the one in the Olaf Short film looks hexagonal (6 sided) whereas the one that my red line intersects is 4 sided.

Lastly, there seems to be a “fence” around the lighthouse (I have duplicated the screencap below) that I have indicated with a yellow arrow - I cannot account for this fence.

As an animator, let me tell you how difficult and how many different people it takes to bring the sisters to life.

First comes the voice acting. Idina and KB would be very expensive.

Second comes the character animation. The controls and rigging for the sisters would be much more extreme than Olafs. There would probably be more planning needed to animate them and it takes a large amount of time refining human character animation to the level we expect to see the sisters. Each eye dart, lip sync, subtleties and personality traits all needing to shine through differently for different characters.

Third comes the hair and cloth simulation/animation. Another animator or two would actually be needed to animate the hair and clothes for the sisters. This is not a simple task. Usually they will have run a simulation through a software such as BEAST and then refine it by hand after.

Next comes FX, if Elsa were to use any powers or we see the Spirits. I wont get into detail here.

Lastly, you need to think about compositing everything together and rendering it out to video format. The more complex the elements in the scene, the longer the render and more power is required from the PC. Since this was being made at home, you have to consider perhaps the animator was using a personal PC and didnt bring a chonky studio PC home with him.

The reason Olaf was chosen for this project was because he is easy. He doesnt have clothes or hair and Josh Gad was super on board to do this. Also, at first it was just Gad and one animator making these shorts. It would have been torture to add more elements to them and they probably weren’t allowed to bring the sisters home to use them for animation. I imagine the studio being extra protective of them. I didnt watch most of them because Olaf doesnt interest me, so I’m not sure when the credits grew to include many more people.

I agree that another reason not to include any other characters is because they are probably unsure what to do with them.

I just wanted to comment on this because I keep seeing people complaining about not seeing Anna and Elsa in these little shorts, but honestly there would be a whole other layer of approvals and much more work needed to make it happen.

My pleasure. I’m a senior FX animator and I’ve worked on enough movies and shows to know how the pipeline works and am happy to shed some light on the process.

I really do believe Disney probably wouldn’t allow Anna and Elsa to leave “home” in case something happened. Studios releasing assets to be worked on at home is very very rare and the employee would need to be very trustworthy. Disney is secretive and wouldnt take the risk on any level for those babies I imagine.

Olaf was sent out into the world cuz whatever.

Aaaahh I’m so glad you laid this out in detail because tbh I am…so beyond sick of people grumbling about these shorts because they are missing Elsa and Anna. Yea, I wanna see them too, but this who project wasn’t a big planned thing with tons at the creator’s disposal. It’s something small for kids and us children in awkward adult bodies to watch and get some joy from, started by a couple of people who wanted to use their talents and abilities to do something nice. Whenever I see negativity at Olaf at Home I go onto the defensive. This little thing is what I would view as a good direction for the franchise, no matter how minor, and we need more of that!

“Olaf at home” was really funny. A couple of scenes really made me laugh like a kid!

This is something all Disney fans should listen to.
