All hail the tumblr mobile gods I am able to post again 🙏
Over the weekend I attached Tiger's lighting to the canopy of his tank. It's making maintenance and feeding wayyy easier and looks so much less chaotic. Going to do that eventually w all three turtle tanks.
Still got to finish his basking spot but I keep scrapping all my designs. Never satisfied 🥲
i feel like i'm watching a car crash in slow motion

RABIES ALERT: New York, United States
Shared from SILive | May 20th 2024
A rabies-infected stray cat recently attacked at least one person in Travis, and city officials now want residents to be on the lookout for other possibly-infected animals, a Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) spokesman said Friday.
A flyer being circulated by the Health Department shows a picture of the male brown tabby domestic shorthair cat that officials believe was living near Travis Avenue and Victory Boulevard for over a year.
The flyer recommends that anyone who may have come in contact with the cat before May 2 seek medical attention. Additionally, there may be other infected cats or wildlife in the area, so anyone scratched or bitten by a wild animal should also seek medical attention. People with pets who were bitten should also contact their veterinarian.
After authorities located the cat with the confirmed rabies infection, they caught it before later euthanizing the animal, according to the Health Department. Animals cannot be tested for rabies while alive, so the cat’s euthanasia was a necessary step.
The attacked individual received treatment after the exposure, and a human case of rabies hasn’t been reported in the five boroughs since 1947, according to the Health Department.
According to DOHMH, rabies is a fatal virus transmitted to people and other mammals through the bite of an infected animal. The virus can also be transmitted if a rabid animal’s saliva or nerve tissue gets directly into another animal’s eyes, nose, mouth or an open wound.
Most commonly found in raccoons in the five boroughs, only 600 animals have tested positive for the virus since the city began conducting surveillance in 1992, according the Health Department. Last year, only four raccoons and a cat tested positive for the virus, the Advance/SILive.com reported.
The city set up bait stations with rabies vaccines multiple times last year in the Island’s wooded and marshy areas.
Symptoms of rabies usually start to appear one to three months after exposure, but in rare cases, symptoms have not shown up for several years, according to the Health Department.
Modern post-exposure treatments for rabies using vaccines and antibodies have been almost universally effective in preventing death among humans in the Western Hemisphere.
According to a March 2023 report from the Infectious Disease Society of America, an 84-year-old Minnesota man became the first person to die in the U.S. from rabies in 2021 despite receiving those treatments. Scientists concluded that the failure of those treatments was most likely due to an unknown impaired immunity in the man.

A cat in Gwinnett County has tested positive for rabies according to the Gwinnett County Health Department.
Officials said on May 9, a cat near King Steam Way in Snellville tested positive for rabies.
Vet staff were exposed to the cat through saliva, but no bites or injuries were reported, according to officials.
Officials are now advising caution if you see an animal acting in strange ways.
According to the National Association of State Health Veterinarians, unvaccinated dogs and cats that are exposed to a rabid animal have to be quarantined for four months and vaccinated a month before they can be released.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the rabies virus attacks the central nervous and is nearly always fatal in humans if untreated.
Symptoms of rabies in humans include fever, headaches, general weakness or discomfort.
Officials said that if you or your child get bit by an animal with rabies, to seek immediate care.
To report an animal suspected of having rabies and have it picked up, residents in Gwinnett County can call the Gwinnett Animal Welfare and Enforcement Bite Office at 770-339-3200 ext. 5576.
Rabies can be transmitted to both people and pets through bites and scratches from wild animals like foxes and raccoons, according to Gwinnett County officials.
Anyone keeping rodents or rabbits or parrots in the market for some mulberry chews?
We had to take down two mulberry trees in the bird pens today in order to allow for redoing the overhead netting and repair of a support post, so I have a TON of fresh, organic, pesticide-and-fertilizer-free mulberry wood I can dry and bake for chews right now. The wood is sweet-smelling and on the softer side, and it tends to shred instead of chipping like apple wood. My mice and rats loved shredding out pieces and putting it into their nests. Wood will be cut, air-dried in the house, and baked.
Safe wood for at least rats, mice, rabbits, chinchillas, and guinea pigs to chew and safe for parrots EXCEPT possibly neophema species (diuretic effects were noted in just this species when consuming leaves, but play it safe).
Currently drying cuts from today!
They should really put warnings on plants that are toxic/deadly to animals like it’s pretty insidious that there are plants that could potentially kill your dog being marketed as convenient low effort plants for beginners that have no knowledge I don’t think it would even occur to the average traitor joes shopper that they’d need to even look it up for safety reasons
Fuck yes. So many are awful for animals!! I know I have a few plants that are, but they are put up where the cats absolutely can't get to them.
The ASPCA has a wonderfully large list of plants and their toxicity status (toxic, non-toxic, potentially toxic), and you can even filter it by "toxic/non-toxic to just dogs/cats/horses," which is helpful.
This next site includes listings for guinea pigs, rabbits, and iguanas:
i added some botanicals to the tank.. leaves, cork bark, and seed pods that the crabs can hide in 🦀 also i've had the water running all day without the water heater plugged in, and the temps are perfect! 26-27 degrees in the lower water section and 27-28 degrees at the top pooling area.
the LED light bar (arcadia jungle dawn) that i have on the tank seems to heat up the pooling area nicely, which is heating up all the water as it cycles. so we'll see if i'll ever need to plug in the heater 🤷♀️
They only had two snakes there. The Corn Snake was in the huge cage on the top, which was lovely, and the Emerald Tree Python was in a nice fully planted vertical enclosure. Wish they had more reptiles but at least the ones they do have are nicely housed!
So, I wanted to get a larger plant for Keeva's enclosure, so I bought a Hawaiian fern. Without looking at the scientific name.
Apparently there are two ferns in Hawaii that go by the same name. A native fern, and then one that is endemic to Australia and a few other countries.
I accidentally got the second. You want to know what this fern's other common name is? Kangaroo foot fern.
That's right. Because I didn't read carefully, I ended up with That Damn Fern's twin (albeit a bit more sickly version. Shipping was not kind).
I couldn't find a good spot for it in Keeva's enclosure, so I stuck it in Ofeefee's, because why not commit to total insanity at this point. Keeva will get the Bonnie spider plant that was SUPPOSED to go in Ofeefee's enclosure.
Other than that, have some random snake pics. We should be making our way home from GA after picking up Aisling's enclosure when this posts
