Jim, contrary to the belief of his senior officers, does not dismiss the advice he is offered. He considers it, turns it over in his mind, and either takes it to heart or files it away. He is not a fool, and he does not behave according to rash impulses or panic. ( In fact, Spock himself had mentioned something of the sort, several months ago, when Jim had been court-martialed for the death of Lt. Cmdr. Finney. )
