Hello, witches! Since I’m always harping on about learning your history and checking your sources, I thought I’d help folks get a head start by compiling some source material.

To that end, I’ve started a Dropbox folder with a stash of historical texts on witchcraft, magic, and related topics. Nearly everything I’ve managed to find so far is public domain (thank you Project Gutenberg), with the exception of a very thorough herbal grimoire I found online some years ago and a book of witchcraft from the 1970s that appears to be out of print.

I will be continuing in this vein with future texts that I find. Everything will be public domain or cited to the source that it came from, in PDF format. I will NOT be including PDFs of any book currently in circulation with a copyright linked to a living author or estate. The point of this folder is that everything in it should be free for sharing and open use as research materials.

Below is the initial list of titles. I tried to include as many as I could find, with a focus on some oft-cited classics. I will be adding new texts as I find them.

  • A Collection of Rare and Curious Tracts on Witchcraft and the Second Sight, by David Webster (1820)
  • A History of Witchcraft in England from 1558 to 1718, by Wallace Notestein (1909)

The point of including these documents is to provide access to historical texts for research and reference. Inclusion in the collection does not equal unconditional agreement with or wholesale approval of the contents.

Take everything with a grain of salt and remember to do your due diligence!

Pisces in the 3rd House

(Attitude Toward Knowledge and Information)

With Pisces ruling the 3rd house the natures of planets Jupiter and Neptune together influence the attitude toward knowledge and information. How one observes the importance of knowledge, the action they take toward knowledge, and how it serves as a foundation for future abstract studies are born in the 3rd house. In the 3rd house, Pisces brings feels very hopeful and prosperous through exercising curiosity and being well educated. The desire for knowledge is free-flowing and very adaptable as if one never really knows enough. The learning style and frame of mind with learning is quite otherworldly, being capable of absorbing information in a truly broad manner.

The nature of the water element ruling Pisces brings a very artistic and creatively inspired learner through the 3rd house. Something mystical about the curiosity and desire to learn is apparent. The barrier towards absorbing knowledge is thin impart born from the water influence. Pisces in this house conveys a learner where curiosity flows fluidly. Learning becomes easier with a lack of bias which holds open a path for knowledge to flow in. The attitude toward learning can be restless, always desiring to learn more over the course of life.

***

Pisces in the 3rd house can have difficulties staying grounded when it comes to learning. Being distracted can come easy which leads to daydreaming and escaping into fantasy. It is important when learning that knowledge to be learned has a deep connection associated with it. When information possesses a sense of greater meaning it becomes easier for Pisces to focus. Having the freedom to choose one’s topics of interest is vital to growing the intellect and staying interested in learning

The underlying reality of Pisces in the 3rd is learning is never completely fluid in execution. Despite an idealistic desire to seek greater knowledge, there are blockages marred by the sensitive and emotional nature of Pisces. The desire to learn can be hindered by a need for inspiration towards a subject. When such inspiration exists one will merge with knowledge, grasp it, and become one with it. When the inspiration is lacking, Pisces in this house can lose interest in learning. The only resistance tends to be how deep the personal interest in it is.

***

Pisces in this house offers a marked aptitude grasping broad-minded knowledge, yet space is needed to process information. This is a truly spirited soul when it comes to learning who needs to learn at their own pace. Pisces in the 3rd produces a scholarly type needing isolation to draw up the energy to fully focus on learning. Without space, frustrations can be experienced with learning. In such occurrences, a feeling of confusion and loss of focus comes easily. Distractions from other people, the environment, and pressure to absorb everything within the moment is a hindrance in learning

It is possible learning is best achieved through reading or studying learning material offering freedom with no stipulations attached. Such examples might be online learning courses that allow the freedom to engage freely when inspirations come. When learning is done through books reading can control the pace of information flowing inward. This makes the absorption of knowledge easier and free of stress.

The Neptunian side of Pisces can even make one do better learning with visual learning means. Such learning can stimulate the imagination in a multitude of ways making learning more fun. Such a learning style can aid in taking in information as it allows more space to meditate on meaning. Video learning courses, documentaries, and such visual means can offer a more prosperous learning opportunity.

***

Pisces in the 3rd house is very sensitive to learning when it comes to external teaching through others. A teacher needs to be emotionally inspiring to create a productive student-teacher relationship. When that level of depth is lacking absorbing information can be a challenge. Pisces in this house learn best in laid-back situations where teachers can be more patient and accommodating. Having freedom is a constructive need for being able to fully embrace a learning experience. A teacher is required who has empathy, patience, and understanding to deal with and un-grounded learning style.

The most productive externalized learning situation for Pisces in the 3rd oft occurs in one on one situations. Tutoring, mentorships, or small class size environments are needed to gain a focus on learning. Large classroom settings can impose strict guidelines which are prohibitive in the need for freedom to learn. Classroom settings also detract from one student-teacher engagements due to requirements to focus on the majority over the individual. Learning in a school setting also imposes deadlines which can be freedom restricting.

***

The struggles with learning can be profound for Pisces in the 3rd house. Pisces brings a lack of clarity and confusion to the 3rd house, which contributes to a lack of direction when learning. While the sense of curiosity can be marked by a sense of idealism wanting to know everything, in reality, it isn’t possible. Fears can embody the attitude toward learning leading to philosophical questioning. In the worst situations, a sense of nihilism overtakes the learning spirit. Such an issue comes from a predisposed fear of not being capable of truly being able to grasp everything the curiosity desires.

For Pisces in the 3rd house, there are often boundary problems with knowledge, especially when to much outside intellectual stimulation is taken in. A lack of boundaries with Pisces can find one taking in knowledge unconsciously from everywhere. A certain inner confusion can be the result of such an occurrence. This confusion is born from being gullible to outside stimulation with no discerning way to keep it out. Learned knowledge then may “fall through the grasp” because there is a lacking of emotional inspiration toward it. Then confidence in learning can slip away altogether causing one isolate, daydream, and escape learning altogether.

Learning tends to get easier over the years for Pisces in the 3rd house. With age comes wisdom when it comes to how one approaches their curiosity. Intuition can develop over time in understanding the importance of separating one’s curiosity from the ideas of others. At this stage, one learns to go with the flow of their curiosity, truly seeking out the knowledge they want for themselves. Learning can become more of a strength rather than a source of feeling helpless. At such a point, one may even become a good teacher, knowing wisdom comes from specializing in the knowledge that is personally inspiring.

***

The 3rd house rules over subject matter that can spark a sense of curiosity. Pisces in the 3rd is a deep and introspective scholar that loves anything inspiring. Curiosity can be seen towards all of life’s bigger questions; the meaning and purpose of life, subjects of faith and spirituality are interesting. A curiosity will exist toward things that can’t be explained easily and have no tangible form. Metaphysics, spiritual dimensions, otherworldly realms, ghosts, astrology are such examples of unexplained phenomena that can be inspiring.

Pisces rules over illusion making the study deception, magic, or chemical substance engrossing. Drugs and altering the states of the mind fall hand in hand as intriguing. Pisces can also be linked with compassion showing learning how to heal or give service others can be a captivating subject matter. Subjects involving reform like criminal justice may be studied. Use of the imagination also is regarded as a worthwhile study The arts can be very engaging show learning music, photography, acting and painting could be engaging topics to reality.

(Early Educational Years)

The early educational years of Pisces in the 3rd is a dual-natured ordeal resulting in a mix of positive and negative experiences. The determining factor in the primary education years is the quality of the school environment. Pisces energy requires the freedom to learn at a slower pace and the ability to have the environment adjust to keep up. Depending on whether or not the primary school environment caters to these needs becomes paramount in the level of productivity in early education.

The curriculum and guidelines of early education schooling determine how productive the early educational years pan out. Depending on the guidelines of the school, rules concerning the quality of care, attention, and focus on each student deeply effects Pisces in the 3rd. An early school experience with an easy-going and adaptable quality to the environment creates a positive early school life. When imagination and creativity are heavily encouraged it’s all the much better. When school prioritizes value in every student being able to keep up, Pisces in 3 prospers well in early educational studies.

A primary education undertaking that is overly rigid and demanding creates the background of a detrimental experience. A stressful and chaotic schooling environment is overwhelming and can create a negative and unproductive primary education. If the primary education stresses less attention paid to each student, Pisces in the 3rd can feel behind. The danger in primary schooling is needing to direct teaching toward a bulk majority of students. Prioritizing the needs of one student who needs individual care can be resource intense, leading to being left behind or simply

***

The quality of teachers in primary school education sets the tone for how involved Pisces in the 3rd feels. If the teachers are patient and willing to nurture on an individual level, primary education is fulfilling. With Pisces in this house, it can be easy to feel confused when learning. The guidance of teachers is vital in keeping a sense of focus and connection to the material. When teachers allow freedom and space to learn, it creates a less stressful and chaotic schooling experience. Having caring teachers builds a feeling of trust and safety that makes learning more fulfilling.

***

With Pisces in the 3rd, a strong inspirational connection to subject matter taught in school is vital to maintaining interest in primary studies. A very defining struggle comes when the inspiring connection to the subject matter is lacking. To get the most of primary studies a sense of meaning has to be derived from the studies. Knowledge can feel nebulous and hard to absorb when time spent in classes is marred with no attachment to the subject matter.

The entirety of early education experience is more prosperous when the subject matter is intellectually engaging. Having quiet time in class to read or study without the interruption creates a more productive learning environment. Even homework assignments can be preferable as it offers space to not feel overwhelmed to studies. The only trouble with self-study can be the tendency for Pisces in the 3rd house to always need to be inspired intellectual.

When an assignment is given which is not interesting inspiration will be sought by disappearing into daydreams. Instead of fully engaging in early education, Pisces in this house wanders off in the imaginary world to be satisfied. Sinking into depression can be a byproduct of limited imagination when little interest is found in school subjects. If the attachment to school drifts off and misses the mark completely, Pisces in this house can be quite vague in what they got of it.

***

The social early educational experience can feel like a mixed bag for Pisces in the 3rd house. The quality of the social environment dictates how satisfying peer relationships were with classmates. The fellow peers and students are directly responsible for the attachment Pisces here has towards social involvement in school. In some ways, the friendships and interactions Pisces stumble upon can be a mere matter of luck and chance.

The reality is there is a lot of personal responsibility to form strong friendships with fellow students. Since there is the freedom to choose friends, the responsibility falls upon the self to make good character choices to have satisfying social relationships in school. Unfortunately, Pisces energy can be a bit timid and shy, which can show troubles taking the initiative towards forming friendships with peers.

Pisces energy can be empathic and feel overwhelmed in social physical environments. This issue complicates early school social life because of large class sizes and a busy school environment. Being around sizable groups of people can feel energetically draining. From this Pisces in the 3rd can gravitate toward being a loner to protect personal energy. Even if more of an extroverted personality type is had, Pisces in 3 can pop in and out of social involvement. This will be the result of losing energy and needing to recharge to feel clear-minded to socialize again.

Loneliness can be a problem in the early school days, yet isn’t necessarily a guarantee. Satisfying social involvement is possible but it takes to time to find the place to feel safe. Continuously trying to find the right friends can be a challenge, but ultimately rewarding. Certainly, there may be a temptation to spend time in fantasy, playing video games, or engaging in drugs at an early age to deal with anxious social pressure. It can take escaping reality to find an interest that others relate to and can be the foundation of friendship. Pisces in this house can be drawn to making friends that are loners that share mutual making early school easier to cope with.

***

The 3rd house is affiliated with the kinds of classes that can be satisfying in the early educational years. The nature of Pisces upon the 3rd house can be drawn to any kind of subject matter that stimulates the imagination. Art, drawing, music, photography, or video production classes specifically are enjoyable. Creative writing subjects and classes tend to be very appealing because they utilize the imagination fully.

Generally, any kind of elective that offers freedom based on what is inspiring is interesting. If by any chance the schooling offers elective classes involving water like boating or marine biology these too may be satisfying. There may be interest in taking classes that can promote soul healing such as art therapy, music therapy, or even psychology classes if they are offered. One may even take an interest in social clubs in school that involves helping others like mental health support. Interest in classes that involving working with chemicals, such as science lab may be a draw as well.

(Communication)

Pisces the 3rd house promotes an introverted communication style influenced by the feminine nature of Pisces energy. This can create a tendency to be a shy loner who does not feel comfortable communicating fully and openly. The feminine nature of Jupiter influencing the 3rd house produces a quiet, easy-going, and soft-spoken nature. An idealistic and compassionate side can come out in the words used and communicated.

When communicating there can be an imaginative and spiritual vibe in the speech or writing in the way they speak; seeming otherworldly and quite mystical. There may be a tendency to come across well educated and wise when speaking. This gives off the vibe of being a well-traveled guru or teacher through communicating. Sometimes though the respect may not be warranted especially if the material being communicated is questionable in integrity.

Pisces in the 3rd can be quite engaging and creative in speech brought from the imaginative qualities of Neptune. An imaginative quality of the speech or writing can make for captivating storytelling ability. The communicative nature can be very adaptable due to the mutable energy of Pisces. The style of communication can show a distinct talent for adjusting to others due to mutable Pisces energy. Capturing the attention of others is easy due to the ability to conform to the communication style of others.

***

The negative traits of Pisces can show prominently in the style of communication. When communicating the influence of Pisces can bring a vague and nebulous style of speech or writing. Communication exchanges can be marred by haziness bringing a shroud of mystery about the way ideas are presented. Pisces in the 3rd can present confusion regarding responding in communication at the moment. Responses can come across as vague, illogical, or just disorganized, leaving others feeling lost sometimes how to continue a conversation. In the worse of cases, Neptune’s influence will cause one to lie in hopes of not disappointing others or simply keeping their attention.

For Pisces in the 3rd House, the desire to communicate is influenced deeply by the environment. To a casual observer, it may seem Pisces has a vacillation in communication desire stemming from moodiness. The reality is anything but as the desire to communicate depends on the energy of the environment. If there is comfortable energy where Pisces in the 3rd does not feel overwhelmed it creates a safe feeling to socialize. However, if the environment is aggressive, chaotic, or difficult then Pisces in this house can feel overloaded, bringing out the shy nature.

***

The 3rd house is responsible for the topics that are of interest to communicate about. The nature of Jupiter influencing the 3rd produces a love of intellectually philosophical subjects of various kinds. Speaking or writing about deeply engaging subjects that are inspiring as what brings higher meaning in life is seen. Pisces in this house can bring a passion for discussing otherwordly or unseen forces. Here we can see a tendency to speak or write about spirituality, mysticism, the paranormal, unexplained things, hidden energies, and astrology.

There may be great interest in discussing themes related to Pisces like sacrificing oneself and volunteering. The interest could be seen in communicating involving creative subjects connected with the imagination like arts, music, or video games. Various topics surrounding addictive substances like drugs or alcohol may be talked about often. Pisces in this house can talk about a subject matter relating to hidden emotions buried in the subconscious. Subjects of loss, confusion, dreams, or issues associated with loss.

(Siblings, neighbors, local relationships)

Having Pisces within the 3rd house creates a very idealistic, generous, and compassionate nature toward neighbors and people in the local area. There can be a tendency to be unselfish and feel inspired to help locals and neighbors when they are in need. There may be a sacrificial attitude towards people in the local community aimed at helping the impoverished or disadvantaged in some way. Such a need may come from an ingrained sense of moral responsibility from Jupiter influencing the 3rd house.

Pisces energy brings some negative connotations that affect the relationship with the locals. Little interest can be shown toward the neighbors when a lacking of emotional inspiration is felt with them. When such happens isolation from locals can be preferred, choosing to stay at home or living a life fulfilling whatever meaning is important. The relationship with the locals in the community can be a bit vague. Pisces in this house may just be passive towards and not interact with them at all. This can occur either because of personal obligations, a sense of fear, or feeling sensitive to how the locals treated them at some point. ***

✨Witchy Uses For Tea✨

A good way to unwind and replenish your energy after a spell or ritual is to relax with some tea.

🌱TEA TYPES🌿

  • Green tea- fire, passion, healing, love, sexuality
  • Oolong tea- reflection, wisdom, concentration
  • Black tea- earth, water, strength, stability, energy, cleansing
  • White tea- happiness, wisdom, purification (compliments moon energy very well)
  • Rose tea: love, compassion, psychic abilities, good luck, protection
  • Herbal tea- very versatile; best uses depend on herbs used. Examples are peppermint, spearmint, rooibos, etc.

✨ WITCHY USES 💫

  • If you are performing a ritual or spell that involves sending positive energies out into the universe, steep the tea nearby while it is taking place. Drink the tea when you are done- this will allow you to replenish your energies, leaving you less drained
  • Brew loose tea and read the tea leaves!
  • Drizzle honey into the tea in sigil patterns. Stirring the tea charges it (clockwise if you are attracting something, counterclockwise if you are banishing something) and drinking it activates it!
  • Brew your tea with distilled drinking water that has been charged with the sun/moon to give your magic a boost!
  • Make your own tea blends to compliment and refine your intent
  • Store tea leaves/tea bags near crystal grids to charge them before brewing- the longer you charge and the stronger you brew it, the stronger the magic will be
  • You can add things like lemon, ginger, cinnamon, cayenne, and give your magick some oomph
  • You can spread tea leaves (moist, dry, used, unused, etc) as offerings, mix them into or add them on top of the soil to help plants grow (bonus if they’ve been used in healing or growth spells!), add them to melted wax for a personalized candle, etc; the possibilities are basically endless
