So back in the summer, I was out on a little jaunt to the thrift store when I found a drafting table made of all wood and metal; so relatively old, but probably not like decades old. No plastic parts, is my point.

I wasnโ€™t looking for it, but Iโ€™ve vaguely wanted one in my kit for awhile for Artist Reasons, and I didnโ€™t have room for it, but when god drops a drafting table on you at the Goodwill, you DONโ€™T LEAVE IT THERE.

Time for an amateur restoration! This is the Disston saw that came with the miter. Unfortunately the branding was largely right where the worst rust was, and didn't survive the rust removal process.

I started on the saw blade by soaking it in vinegar overnight, then I just started sanding at 80p and worked my way up the grit assortment of sandpaper I have. I could probably get the rest of the pitting out if I wanted to, but my arms are tired and I wanted to move on to the handle. And I got to use my workbench outside!

I look forward to finding a vice in the near future.

I have been keeping an eye out for a few basic tools I don't have yet, and I found one! It's a Stanley no. 115 miter saw, and now I get to restore it, or at least give it a good cleaning.

There was a LOT of rust on the front of the saw and almost none on the back, which leads me to believe it was stored laying on its side on the miter for however long it took to build up that rust. The 115 was made between the late 1920s and early-mid 80s, so it could be pretty old, but I'm guessing it's just slightly older than me.

Progress pics will be up soon!

Some recent additions to the Artcave. I want an outdoor work space on my patio! For woodworking and stuff, like I have an old trunk I want to restore. I just have to follow a few rules in my lease, but I think I can make it work.

I got this urge in September, and realizing that all the patio and gardening stuff is going on markdown NOW, decided to get the workbench instead of waiting until next year. I custom fit the tarp and everything, so hopefully it will be okay.

With the very real prospect of melon buying twitter soon, I might be shifting back here more. it's where I've got the most followers after twt, tbh. I've got some creative things going on, like finishing my studio and following my whims while I ramp up on being more creative again. I've been posting as ongoing threads over on twt, which would be easy to continue over here, since I have tags and such.

But basically, my family illness stuff is still going on, but otherwise I'm doing okay.

Stay tuned I guess? Like if you're still around and seeing this?
