I'm building an empire. I'm building with my body and soul. I'm building an empire, so little time and so much to do.

Hello there everybody. It's been awhile, hasn't it?

Last time I posted I was hoping to get things running again but... There are some things that have gotten in the way. Long story short, I won't be returning to this blog for a bit longer. I'm moving to a new town this month and some job changes are underway.

I'm sorry to everyone I've kept waiting. With any luck, I'll be able to hit the ground running after the move is complete and things settle down.

Be safe everybody. I look forward to seeing you all again.

β€œOh?” The word dragged itself past Anima’s lips, raspy with her voice’s lack of use. Slim fingers hovered over the shiny tools before her as if debating which one she ought to lift from the stained linen below.Β β€œA visitor?”

Turning her head, over-bright violet eyes settled on Lorian’s silhouette. She saw only the darkness of his shape, how he blocked out what little moonlight managed to creep in. A wide mad smile curled her mouth, showing the points of teeth grown a hair too long.

β€œA patient, is it?” Anima crooned, selecting her tool of choice as she faced him.Β β€œCome in need of healing? Because of the plague?”

A rushing sound began to fill her ears, furthering the song in her blood.

β€œCome in, come in.” She urged, sweeping her free arm out in a welcoming gesture that went wide.Β β€œLet us have a look at you.”

β€œAn animal, playing at being a knight?” Anima mused, looking Freya over slowly. The redness of her cap and coat, the pride in her stance. It was entertaining, in a manner. Anima’s mouth curled and she sketched a slow curtsy.

Image

β€œFrom what land do you hail, o’ knight? To what end do you point your spear?” She inquired sweetly, lifting her gaze to bore into Freya. To search for weakness.Β β€œOr are you a homeless vagrant, clad in stolen raiment and arms? Pray answer well. I might have use for you if your word is sweet.”

It was difficult to see him, at first. He looked to be made out of the churning Chaos, rather than anything which had once been flesh and bone. Anima narrowed her eyes slowly, one dark nail dragging over the whirling crystal which made up the throne’s armrest. If it produced a sound, the thin air did not carry it to her ears.

image

β€œCome to kill me then?” She asked, folding one leg over the other.Β β€œBy the sword on your back I would think little else. Funny, since you seem the most tired of combat when compared to any other in this forgotten pit of a world.”

Avatar

β€œYou come with good reason, I trust.” Coldness laces the statement, every bit as unforgiving as the calculating edge in Anima’s eyes. Lifting her chin, she stares down at the newcomer before slowly moving to rise. Vibrant silk pools around her feet, spilling like ink across the floor.

Image

One side of Anima’s mouth curves.Β β€œBut where are my manners? You have traveled all this way.” Extending a hand, she leaves it palm-up in invitation for the other woman to take.

β€œYou may approach, dear. I should like to see you better.”

Avatar

Black dust settled in her lungs, coating the soft inner tissue of her throat. Flickers of red briefly winked in and out around her, disappearing from sight as she tried to marshal herself. Raising a hand, Anima wiped at the viscous fluid that spattered her mouth before turning to face him.

In the dark her eyes shone from within, consumed and turned violently reddish gold from the scourge working its way through her body. No doubt he could see it, cursed as he was.

Image

β€œLooks like you owe me a hundred gil, Chancellor.” Anima managed, smiling too wide to be polite.Β β€œI lived.”
