My thoughts on the whole “I can fix him” discourse

Convincing Astarion not to ascend was not Tav’s “I can fix him” pet project. In fact we didn’t fix anything? It was about seeing him and not agreeing with his desperate need to try to disassociate himself and thinking of himself as weak and pathetic. We did not fix him, we kept him as he was, believing he can fix himself in a better way. Most importantly, we didn’t allow the person we love commit mass murder for his own benefit.

By ascension, you affirm his own view of himself that he’s pathetic, weak, needs to change. And it’s kinda interesting to say the least that sacrificing 7000 people to the devil gets swept under the rug like it’s nothing just because you saw the ritual as an opportunity to improve his situation. So in fact it’s you who “fixed” him…and trapped him in a vicious cycle of power struggle.

Period.
