I’m hoping to scrape together some cash to afford the new Volks SD16 Lady Oscar, so I’ll be listing some things on Den of Angels soon. Not sure what else, but since this girl will be replaced with Oscar she’s the first to go. Souldoll Karin in white with a beautiful face-up from @angel_toast. It doesn’t seem like Peakswoods with ever rerelease the body type I had planned for her, so I’d rather just start over with a full doll. You can DM me here too, if you’re interested.

Circa 4000 years old, this gold lunula was found in Ross, Co Westmeath. Shaped like a crescent moon, it is flat and thin and was fashioned out of hammered sheet gold that was then decorated in inscribed motifs.

Also, sawed one hollow sterling stardust bead in half for reasons. I have like eight things going simultaneously so as not to be wildly inefficient with my time. It also helps me move on when something doesn’t work. If I start with four to six things from my plans, I can keep going from one step to the next, dropping the casualties aside and seeing the survivors on to the end. Then I can go back around to the beginning with what I learned from the first round and try again. Otherwise, I just get tripped up on the failures and never get the recharging energy of actually finishing something. It must be utterly crushing to be a sculptor who gets recast. I always think of An Jong Hak working on the Dollstown 18yr boy body for a full year only to see it recast within a month of shipping the first orders. It’s not just funds for tools and materials that get put back into an artist’s work when a piece sells, it’s also the joy of seeing the work realized and appreciated that gets funneled back into the next project. Just knowing you’re being exploited by someone you’ll never be able to confront directly can suck the motivation right out of you. Normally, you can ride the positive feelings after a success for quite some time, but what if someone undercuts the value you’ve put on your own time and labor?

Making stuff always wins out over listing stuff for sale - probably because writing product descriptions, calculating margins, and setting retails is exactly my day job so it's the last thing I want to do when I get home - but I did finally get these Labradorite rings up on Etsy.

How can we help newcomers to the #BJD collecting hobby connect with the artisans who make these dolls when counterfeit/recast dolls from China have flooded most sales platforms? Many newbies say they turned to Google for their first search, but those same counterfeiting operations have also gotten ahead in the SEO game. Often the legitimate creator appears far below the counterfeit shop in search results, and now that trademark theft is also happening it’s only going to get worse. So do the artists a favor and give folks a direct link. You may assume that your followers know all of this info already, but every mention helps.

Mesolithic female shaman of Bad Dürrenberg, 7000-6500 bce, with reconstructed regalia from animal bones, horns, teeth, and shells. From a wonderful color-illustrated pdf of “Archaeological Finds from Germany” from the paleolithic to the christian era. Other interesting finds too.

Check out my gorgeous new guy from @seed.arts He’s meant to fit on a 1:6 action figure body, but he looks like Orpheus to me so I think he’s destined to be jewelry if I can figure out how to fabricate a tiny lyre for him to rest upon.
