For a long moment, she hadn’t even registered the fact that he was talking. She’d simply narrowed her eyes at him in a sort of pointed gaze -- not in an accusing or harmful sort of way. It was just a stare, a look of disinterest in the situation. Her mind was already working over other things, like what she was going to do once she got to her destination, or if she’d even make it through the encounter due at the destination.
When it finally did click that he was speaking to her, crimson eyes fluttered for a second before landing on his. He looked completely unfamiliar, yet there was the subtle feeling at the back of her mind, saying that he was a man of importance. The thought, for some reason, sent shivers down her spine.
“I’m fine,” she spoke up in response, voice flat and cold. She almost sounded distant, as if she wasn’t really all there. “Are you?”
Formalities. Even without her cheery persona, she couldn’t shake them.
