For a long moment, she hadn’t even registered the fact that he was talking.  She’d simply narrowed her eyes at him in a sort of pointed gaze -- not in an accusing or harmful sort of way.  It was just a stare, a look of disinterest in the situation.  Her mind was already working over other things, like what she was going to do once she got to her destination, or if she’d even make it through the encounter due at the destination.

When it finally did click that he was speaking to her, crimson eyes fluttered for a second before landing on his.  He looked completely unfamiliar, yet there was the subtle feeling at the back of her mind, saying that he was a man of importance.  The thought, for some reason, sent shivers down her spine.

“I’m fine,” she spoke up in response, voice flat and cold.  She almost sounded distant, as if she wasn’t really all there.  “Are you?”

Formalities.  Even without her cheery persona, she couldn’t shake them.

Heels clicked against the linoleum ground, quiet under the sole of black combat boots.  If it weren't for the scar that she no longer was trying to hide, perhaps she would have fit in with the crowd.  In fact, she almost did, unless one was to take a second glance over her.  Of course, no one did however.  Hardly anyone even made eye contact with the redhead; though it wasn't that she minded.  She was on a mission, after all.

Detroit was Ayla's home, and while it was ordinarily dangerous and coated with corruption and bankruptcy, she felt almost at peace while traversing the streets.  So much so that she didn't mind walking down the less populous areas like she was doing now.  That didn't mean her instincts weren't present, however, and when she eventually bumped into a stranger while she wasn't paying attention, her training kicked in and pushed away her conscience.  In one moment, she was walking through the neighborhood, the next she was pinning someone to the ground.

It had all happened so quickly.  The way her shoulder just lightly met the passerby's, the way her fingers immediately wrapped themselves around his wrist and forearm, the way her heel kicked out and brought him to the ground.  In this city, you could never be sure if it was an innocent bump, a pickpocket, or a kidnapper, and her instincts had brought upon this moment.  So now, she was frozen, scarlet eyes widened in surprise at herself as she looked at the boy still stuck in her grasp.  A beat passed before the look of bewilderment was swept away and replaced with her stoic gaze once more before she straightened herself up.
