Hi! I love your bedridden witch posts, and I've been interested in Amphitrite for a while (dreams of rushing water and monsters helps), but I'm disabled and don't live near the sea, I live near a pretty spiritually active river though, can I do anything with this/her of should I cut my losses?

I personally think you can be connected to the ocean/deities of the ocean without being near it. And wild waters can certainly help with that :)

This posts may be helpful for you:

i'm devoted to Amphitrite, but there isn't much info about her (what to put on her altar, morning prayers, offerings, etc.). can i use info from Poseidon for her? i mean, that is her husband. would she get mad though?

Avatar

I think you can! She wouldnt be mad, a lot of people share altars between the both of them so I doubt it’d be an issue! Here’s some Amphitrite specific stuff that I use:

🌊Any whale, seal, or marine animal is especially her domain, so anything that relates to that is perfect (statues, pictures, fossils, stuffed animals, etc)

🐬salt water, sea shells (especially natural ones that are worn, broken, or once contained a sea creature), things collected ethically from the ocean

🐳 ocean jasper, aquamarine, lapis, coral agate, ocean fossils of any type

🦈jasmine, aloe, sea weed, blueberry tea, seafood, lime

🐠singing (loudly), dancing, swimming in the ocean, cleaning the ocean, protecting sea creatures, devotional baths or baths in general

I hope this helps! 🌊💕

To Amphitrite

Amphitrite, great and sovereign goddess, bride of Poseidon, mighty sea-queen, daughter of Nereus, long of beard, and Doris whose gift of the ocean’s bounty provides for the children of humankind. Amphitrite, eldest of the Nereids, fairest of those fabled maids, Amphitrite who sits enthroned on the ocean floor, mother of all sea-creatures, of all who dwell in your briny realm, friend of the sailor and the fisher-folk, yours is the power to grant a smooth sail, or to pull a ship down beneath storm-driven waves. Amphitrite, unrivaled, unyielding, I pray to you.

Prayer for Amphitrite

Goddess of the Sea, Please be with me, So if I ever must flee, Your waves will hold me.

Fair beauty of the oceans, I will tell you my emotions, And in loyal devotion, I’ll be set in motion.

I’ll dance with the water, While you sleep, underwater. And with your dolphin daughters, I pray for those still waters.

(There’s legit no sort of prayer for Amphitrite on tumblr??? I took it upon myself to make one i guess. This is the first time i make a prayer!!! Yaay, you can use this when offering her something, when you wake up, or just whenever.)

🌺🍵 Quick Tea Spell 🍵🌺

Ingredients

  • One Pre-Package Bag of Earl-Grey
  • Courage
  • Sugar
  • Sweeten Energy and Prosperity
  • Milk (Or non-dairy substitute if you like)
  • Prosperity and Protection (Non-Dairy will be different)
  • Nutmeg
  • Clarity and Prosperity

After you have steeped your tea for the recommended time stir in your sugar to taste. Mix that well until all the particles have dissolved from the heat. The next thing you will add is your Milk (or Non-Dairy Substitute). I usually only add enough to give my tea a light creamy brown color. Finally you will add your nutmeg. I would use only a pinch to spice your drink.  Once all the ingredients have been mixed you can stir counter-clockwise to banish any negative energy that’s weighing you down.

Now enjoy~!

Shadow Casting

The powerful art of manipulating and controlling the energy of darkness.

A common misconception of darkness is that it is evil. Because people fear what they don’t understand they put labels on things that are strange to them. Well, it can be used for evil, or it can be used for good. It’s up to you. But use common sense, so you don’t create more problems for yourself and others.

Familiars

Witches sometimes have familiars, otherwise known as a spirit, that supports them by aiding them in magickal works. Usually a feline is mostly associated with the witch, and some superstitions believed a witch could transform into a cat. In this day and age, a familiar can be any pet that belongs to the witch. The connection between the witch and their pet is special.

Most all witches have a love for animals, as they do for all living things. Witches understand the importance of the animal kingdom in general. Always stay in tune with the vibrations of your animals so you can know if they are sick or in need.

Feathered Friends

Blackbird

Within Wicca, the blackbird is a cherished thing, and thought to be extremely psychic. If a blackbird sings for you, and looks you straight in the eye, know that love is on its way to you!

Blue Tit

This little bird brings happiness and new of birth/weddings. If these birds are around your garden, you’ll have an abundance of goods. If you see a blue tit scruffy and bedraggled, blow it a kiss and it will live another year.

Crow

Spiritual people attract the crow the most. Wiccans hold the crow as a spiritual messenger. They are very intelligent creatures, and a lot of individuals are very superstitious about them. Sometimes on tarot cards you will see a crow perched on the shoulder of a witch. Throw out some corn and they will hang around your house.

Cuckoo

When the spring finally gets here, and you hear the first cuckoo, make a wish and it will be granted. This bird is good luck and to see one means that you will have more money coming to your life.

Finch

The truth seeker. Tell it your troubles and it will fly away with your problems, leaving them to disappear within the clouds. It will also ruffle it’s feathers if you’re not being true to yourself.

Magpie

Do not listen to the bad sayings about the magpie. Wiccans consider the magpie just as useful as any other aggressive bird. Chinese witches say they are half raven, half dove and very beautiful. The spiritually blessed individuals attract the magpie most. If you see one in your garden, you’ll know your home and property are protected.

Owl

The great fortune-teller. All the secrets of the universe are said to be within the owl. Speak aloud to the owl and ask your questions. If it hoots once, the answer will be no. If it hoots twice, the answer will be yes. If you so happen to have an owl enter your house, it is a VERY bad omen. If you see its image on a window where it might have accidentally collided with the glass, there is news of death.

Pheasant

This is the bird of protection against dangers, especially for younger individuals. If there is a child in the home, and a pheasant is spotted on the property, it is believed that the child will always be protected from danger. Some witches will sew the feathers of a pheasant onto their attire or hats.

Robin

In Christianity, the robin is believed to have gained their red breast from the blood of Jesus after it plucked the deepest thorn from Jesus’ brow while dying on the cross. If you speak to a robin while outside doing things, it may follow you around. If you have a regular visitor in your garden, you are very lucky. However, if it comes into the house it portends some sad news or even news of death.

Sparrow

If a sparrow flies at you, know to look after your health better.

Sparrow Hawk

If this bird makes eye contact with you, its trying to tell you news. If you tune into the sparrow hawk you will find it’s understanding and knowledge.

Swallow

Your property will be protected against bad weather if a swallow nests in the eaves of your house.

Woodpecker

This guardian of all trees is associated with magickal powers. Use the dust caught from a hole of a woodpecker in spells for happier times.

Wren

This bird is a myth thought to be the king of birds. If this bird flies in your home, it will  leave magick and good luck. If a wren appears to you, something wonderful will happen.

Furry Friends

Badger

This animal is a lunar animal and part of the weasel family. Lunar animals are magickal and associated with the lunar goddess. There are many lunar animals. The badger has supernatural powers and can sense when it’s in the presence of a witch. Badgers can sense magickal ley lines. These lines are thought to be paths of spiritual energy running through the earth along which ancient monuments were built and sacred sites aligned.

Bat

The bat can usually be found wherever a witch resides. According to Chinese folklore, if a bat nests under your roof, it is a sign of better things to come.

Dogs

Dogs are incredibly psychic! Because of this, they can easily detect humans emotions. They are also sensitive to weather changes.

Frogs, Toads, and Newts

A lot of garden, or green, witches who are into magickal lore and medicinal properties of herbs, will keep an amphibian as a pet. Frogs and toads are lucky to have around. However, if one should be killed or found dead on your property, then sad news of the loss of a friend is to come.

Hare

Another lunar creature like the badger. They represents fertility and new beginnings for many religions. Many witches have images of the hare on jewelry. Star-gazing hares are thought to attract the full moon and stars, and are purported to be the most magickal as they are moon worshipers. If you see one, very good luck.

Horse

The horse is the only creature that may have an issue with witches. This beast is very sensitive and senses vibrations differently from ours. Sometimes Wiccan vibrations can spook a horse. The horse sometimes can be neigh too loud or rear up. This is because the horse simply doesn’t understand the vibrations its sensing and should be handled carefully. A horse can settle down and get used to a witch. Don’t take it personal. Be patient and take time with a horse.

Rabbit

Like the hare, a rabbit is lunar. If found in your garden, it could mean news of a baby for you or someone close to you.

Insightful Insects

Bee

The much treasured bee is a very important insect to our ecosystem. Some witches will keep beehives because of their love for honey often used in healing potions. Bee witches, or witches or keep bees, make sure correct flowers and plants are always available in the garden. Never swear in front of a bee for this thought to weaken them through the presence of negativity. If one flies into the palm of your hand, legend has it that you’ll soon have money. If a bee doesn’t like your energy, it will sting you. NEVER EVER KILL A BEE!!

Hornet or Wasp

Interestingly enough, you can use telepathy with these insects. If you tune in right, they will do as you ask. If they aggravate you, speak firmly and say “please leave.” It will usually obey, and if you get stung instead, it’s a warning that there may be a person around you who you shouldn’t trust. Jealousy is associated with hornets also, so be on guard.

Grasshopper

If you are face-to-face with the grasshopper, you will have to make decisions about journeys that lie ahead of you.

Ladybug

This lovely little bug is also known as the ladybird beetle. It is a witch’s little familiar and if one lands on you, many blessings will come. Hold it in your cupped hand for a few moments and tell it your secrets. Then make a wish and let it go.

Spider

Witches attract spiders the most. They run over clothes, land in your hair, and even creep into bed with you! It is said to be the only living creature on the planet that can understand human language. Some witches will talk to spiders a lot, or put them in their pocket for a moment to increase their wealth. If you kill a spider intentionally, you will have bad luck and a year of hardship. If a tiny spider finds you, circle it three times over your head, and let if drop into your hair. Leave it there to find its way out to increase your money energy three times over.

The Notorious Cat

This animal is most closely associated with witches today. Many witches have friendly felines as familiars and many believe them to be psychic. In the day and age when witches were burned, their cats were often burned along with them or just killed outright. The Egyptians were often buried with their cats for help to the journey into the spiritual realm. Sometimes your cat will hunt for you and bring you presents. Thank you for their offering, then dispose of it (if its a dead animal) privately so you do not offend the feline.

Tasseography: A Very Basic Guide

So much has been said about the reading of tea leaves, or coffee grounds, that is almost seems futile to write even more about it. But because this blog is meant to be used as a complete grimoire and guide, I feel I should mention one of the most well-known methods of divination.

Tasseography’s history is not well-understood. Many Wiccan authors ascribe the practise to the Romani people, but its origin is not well-known. Many European and Middle Eastern people used divinatory methods based on the shapes of spilt or scattered substances, and once tea was introduced to Europe from China, it seemed only natural tea leaves would join the long list of things-that-can-sometimes-look-like-shapes. In the Middle East and Eastern Europe, coffee is more often used in tasseography.

A spoonful of tea leaves, loose, is placed in a white teacup. The querent must then stir the leaves with their finger, focussing on the questions they wish to ask. Boiling water may then be poured into the cup to allow the tea to steep. The querent then allows the leaves to settle and drinks the tea until only the dregs and a spoonful or so of liquid is left at the bottom. Then, the cup is taken up in the left hand and swirled three times clockwise before being quickly turned over onto a white napkin resting atop a saucer. The querent counts to seven and turns the cup aright, whereafter the leaves may be read.

The position of the symbolic shapes left behind in the cup matters. Anyone who reads tea leaves has their own system for interpretation. When I do this, I read the cup outward from the handle on both sides, with the handle pointing toward the querent. Symbols on the right side of the cup may be interpreted as positive, while those on the left may have negative qualities. Stronger messages emanate from symbols closer to the brim of the cup than the base.

Following are a short list of symbols and their meanings, both positive and negative.

  • Acorn: strength and resilience, or stubbornness
  • Arrow: surprise news, or a rumour
  • Bird: good luck, or a friend lost
  • Boat: a visit, or a debt owed
  • Butterfly: pleasure, or a short-lived joy
  • Cat: strengthened friendship and loyalty, or treachery
  • Circle: a gift given, or a payment demanded
  • Cloud: financial success, or a period of trouble
  • Clover: happiness and prosperity, or assumptions made
  • Coffin: freedom from a persistent trouble, or death
  • Cross: prosperity, or annoyance
  • Crown: honour and success, or great responsibility
  • Curved line: a journey ahead, or an unexpected setback
  • Dagger: friends who will come to your aid, or impending danger
  • Deer: freedom, or a quarrel
  • Dog: faithful friends, or secret enemies
  • Fish: a visitor from abroad, or a surprise journey
  • Flag: loyalty, or people may unite against you
  • Flower: happiness in relationships, or the death of an acquaintance
  • Hammer: triumph over adversity, or hard work ahead
  • Hat: success in the workplace, or a warning that you are ignoring an important truth
  • Heart: pleasure and happiness, or trouble in relationships
  • Horseshoe: good luck, or an unexpected visitor who will waste your time
  • Human figure: visit from a parent, or a fight
  • Key: success in business, or the return of an ex-lover
  • Letters: denote the initial of someone close to the querent
  • Moon: good fortune, or obliviousness
  • Mountain: powerful friends, or powerful enemies
  • Mushroom: an epiphany, or a toxic influence
  • Numbers: should be significant to the querent
  • Oak leaf: long life in good health, or long life in poor health
  • Rabbit: multiplication of blessings, or multiplications of curses
  • Ring: marriage, or divorce
  • Snake: a speedy recovery, or a treacherous friend
  • Square: comfort, or hardship
  • Spider: gaining money, or losing money
  • Triangle: good luck, or a bad reputation
  • Wheel: an inheritance, or a sudden upset
  • Windmill: a business success, or a false omen

The symbols retain their positive meaning when found on the right side of the cup, but have a negative interpretation on the left.

◈Tarot tips◈

When it comes to  shuffling and laying out your cards I get the feeling that the general opinion is that there is just one way of doing it, and let me tell you I am no fan.

Here is a list of different ways you can pick the cards for your reading; these are the ways I’ve tried and I am sure there are more out there so feel free to add to the list. Just remember that when it comes to tarot there is no right or wrong way, just find what works for you and what feels right.

Shuffle & draw

This is the most common one where you shuffle until you feel you are done and then lay out the cards one by one. You can cut the deck, end with taking the top three cards and put them at the bottom of the deck or vice versa, or some other variation of this. Do what feels correct to you. Just remember to flip the cards horisontally- this goes for all styles of doing this (or your cards will be opposite of how you drew them)

Pop out

Here you shuffle while asking the deck the questions of each card you wish to draw. Say you’re doing the Past, present, future reading you start out with concentrating on or vocalizing the past-question until a card flies/pops/falls out of the deck -mind if it landed upright or reversed- and then go on to shuffling for your next question. This is a bit more time consuming and I only use this for a maximum of 4-card readings but it gives very accurate readings and is a good way of doing it if you want more guidance from the deck/your guides instead from your own intuition.

Feel your way

Just shuffle the deck and then spread it out infront of you so you can see at least a little bit of every card. Center yourself, take a deep breath and close your eyes. Stretch out your hands, now here you’ll have to do some trial and error before you find out what works best for you, some use both hands, some their projective and some their receptive hand- whatever works best for you- and then just let your hand/hands roam over the cards and let your intuition guide you to what card to pick. Do this for every card in your reading.

Pick them out

This is my personal favourite because it’s a mixture of my own intuition and outer guidance. It’s a lot like Pop out but a lot less time consuming. Instead of waiting on a card to pop out you take notice on the behaviour of certain cards. Ask the deck your question and start shuffling. Pay mind to if a card either pokes out an unusual amount or if a card just doesn’t want to get back in the deck; so you’re getting guided but you also have to trust your intuition. This has shown to give the most accurate readings for me, but it’s very individual so allow yourself to play with it for a while, especially if you’re new to tarot; get to know your deck, bond with it etc.

Happy reading!

Popular Methods Of Divination

Salutations, let’s talk about divination.

Divination is the practice of seeing things that can’t otherwise be seen. It has been around since at least 332 BC and has countless methods. This post will cover the most popular methods of divination.

                                                     Tarot

Tarot is most likely the most popular form of divination. Almost everyone has heard of it, and lots have had an experience of it

Tarot began as a card game in Italy, Portugal, and France; but us witches realized they could be used as much more, altered the deck a bit, and gave each card a special meaning.

The tarot deck has 78 cards; 22 in the Major Arcana, and 56 in the Minor Arcana. The Major Arcana represents important situations, and give perspective on how to handle them. The Minor Arcana represent everyday situations, and how to tackle them. This difference can be remembered by the names, Major for major (life) events, and Minor for minor (every day) events.

                                                    Scrying

Scrying is the art of seeing physically, similar to divination but with using a “third eye”.

The Crystal Ball is the most recognizable method of scrying, but since crystal balls aren’t the most affordable thing, it’s not the most popular amongst witches.

Water Scrying is a popular method of scrying since all that’s needed is a body of water; whether that’s in a bowl, at a pond, or in the ocean, it is arguably the most accessible method.

Fire Scrying is done by staring into a flame; while this method is not recommended, lots of people use this method for short periods of time (and some for long periods of time).

Smoke Scrying is accomplished by watching smoke from a fire, candle, incense, or even steam from boiling water, making this another easy form of scrying.

Lastly, Mirror Scrying is used with a black (or obsidian) mirror. This method is very similar to the crystal ball method since it uses the same technique which is staring and watching into a semi-reflective.

                                             Tasseography

A tea leaf method of divination which specifically originated the 17th century, it was evolved from an older form of tasseography that was created by medieval fortune tellers in Europe. It’s argued how precise you must be when reading the leaves; some believe the cup has to be in a certain position, some believe that the perfect amount of tea must be drunken, etc., but since no craft is an exact science, everything is up for interpretation and personalization

Tea Leaf Readings are interpreted by leaf color, placement, and shape.

                                                  Pendulum

Pendulums are very well known in the witch community, and it’s probably the easiest form of divination.

Using pendulums for divination is a type of dowsing, which has been around at least since the Renaissance. Dowsing was originally used to find groundwater, oil, precious metals, gemstones, gravesites, and other valuable things; this was done with a Y shaped rod or stick. This practice led to the use of the pendulum, which was used to predict the future, help with life decisions, predict the sex of an unborn baby, and even help doctors with diagnoses.

Pendulums are used by either asking for a ‘yes’ and ‘no’ motion and then asking questions, or by holding over pendulum mat with answers and watching where it swings in response to questions.

Those are the four most popular forms of divination in our time of existence.

See ya next time, folks!
