Sorry about the lack of posting, guys! I've had some health and computer issues going on for a while, but now everything's calmed down I can get into making 2018 kick butt 💖 I did a pic of my new pet blue tongue lizard I got at the beginning of this month :D His (or her, we don't know yet but I think he's male) name is Waffles and I love having him so much! Expect more lizard art in the future~ #bluetongueskink #copic #copicmarkers #spoonieartist #instaart

Thank you everyone for your continued support for the Banksia Project! It’s been a big year and after reviewing feedback there are some changes for 2018!

2017 saw the Banksia Project expand from a few week coaching opportunity to a year long program featuring not only women creators but creators from a number of under represented groups. While this has been very rewarding, it is clear that a year is a little too large a time period for most creators to be able to commit to. This has led to one of the two big changes in the Project next year.

2018 will continue the opportunities for 6 under represented creators across the country, including:

- a 3 month mentorship including regular coaching from me, Alisha Jade, to begin at a time of the recipient’s choosing after January 1, 2018.

- A complimentary Artist Alley table next to me or an experienced coach at a Supanova event, or alternate zine or independent comic event as agreed. This includes coaching on table set up, sales and assistance on the day.

To continue making the Banksia Project as accessible as possible, this year events will not be limited to Supanova Expo and will include a number of zine and independent comic events that I or a selected number of on site helpers can get to.

It is the goal of the Project to continue improving on the subject of diversity. If you are under represented in Australian comics in any way I encourage you to apply.

Applications will be open until the 30th November, 2017, with recipients announced shortly after.

As always, if you have any questions or suggestions please let me know, and thank you again for all the incredible support this project has received, both at an individual level and also to the groups and events involved.

Signal boost! I’m the Brisbane recipient for this year and it has been really helpful and fun to learn from Alisha and the other recipients.

Even if you believe your comics aren’t at the level you want yet, I’d encourage you to give it a go and apply regardless! I was certain I wouldn’t receive this mentorship as I’m not super confident in my own art, but applied anyway and got in. So give it a try or encourage creators you know if they fit these guidelines, it’s a great program :D Good luck!

I put off doing this comic for ages, but I’m really happy with how it came out. Since I first got diagnosed with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue (among other conditions), I’ve become a bit frustrated with the lack of portrayal of chronic illness in the media I consume. I’ve always wanted to create a ultra feminine magical girl series as well so I thought the combination of these two themes would go well together.

Funnily enough, I took a lot longer with the designs and comic for this one as my chronic illnesses have been bad and I didn’t want to focus on the subject at the time. But I powered through! I want to do more with these characters in future now that I’ve dealt with the first hurdle of this comic :D I had to cut out Cat and Hana (the other team members) this time, but I definitely want to include them in future too!

Finally finished my mermaid comic Wave in time for Mermay! I’ve spent a couple of months doing this and I’m finally pretty happy with it.

After I had completely finished it originally, I decided that the original comic wasn’t paced properly and had a lot of blank space. I originally painted all the panels separately at a larger scale but the proportions were all wrong! I’ve changed my comic process from doing this one comic and I feel a lot better about it now.

I love my two cute girls that I’ve designed for Wave as well, I may end up doing more with them because they’re so sweet~

Here’s the fanart I did for the Ensemble Yuri on Ice fanzine! I did this piece using watercolours and Copic markers, and it was a lot of fun~ (My health hasn’t been great for a while, so I have been a bit slack uploading this one here after the zine’s release, oops!)

Ensemble (’storge’) is a 40 page charity fanzine with fanfics and art celebrating the friendships and relationships from the show. The fanzine is available as a pay-what-you-want digital PDF here, and proceeds go to the Russian LGBT Network. Even if you can’t afford to pay for it, if you like the work please share it as it goes to a good cause :D
