          “I’m sorry, I’m not following exactly what’s going on here, how about we start with a ‘hi, I haven’t seen you since Vegas like three years ago, you look great, also I let myself in and I’m going to call it magic.’  While you’re here, make yourself sort-of at home and I’ll get us both a drink.  Sound fair?” he asked, but he was already moving to do exactly that, assuming he remembered her drink preferences and hadn’t mixed them up with someone else’s.  His point was more to get himself some of that nasty black ‘juice’ he’d been dosing himself with, but it gave him something to do with his hands.  “Now you’re going to have to be more specific with your questions, because a lot has happened and I like to keep busy.  Also, I’m Iron Man, but the news covered that very extensively.  Time and Vanity Fair did a front page about it.”

“Uh no, we are not getting hung up on magic right now,” Zee scolded as she trailed after Tony. Keeping up with him was like running on an entirely different speed, always in his wake. She was rusty from their roughly three-year gap, but she was confident she’d catch back up, “I figured I’d cut to the chase, but fine, we can delicately frame this so you can dance around the topic a little bit longer,” Zee made her way to the bar, mainly to see if he remembered her prefered drink, “I know you’re Iron Man, Tony. I read all the coverage, and so did the rest of the planet. Which, by the way, when you talk about being Iron Man it seems like a vanity project. Which shouldn’t surprise me, and yet?”

Taking a seat at the bar, Zee made herself comfortable, her heels clicking to the floor as she watched him pour his drink and her’s, “The surrounding stuff is where I’m even more lost. Why the Stark expo? Is being a superhero, not enough attention for you?” Zee playfully smiled at her own question, “I know the answer, but truly. I am a bit concerned about you, even if you do look great. Thus the checkup,”

Terrible Choices

"I can't believe you just did that."
"You're going to do WHAT?!"
"Let me count the ways that this is a bad idea..."
"Please tell me you're joking."
"You are going to have a LOT of explaining to do over this one."
"You can make all the excuses all you want, but you really fucked up this time."
"So... I did something that might have been a terrible idea..."
"Do you think we could just forget last night?"
"I'm not sure what happened, but I have a feeling I know who was behind it."
"You know that little voice inside your head that tells you not to do the thing? Listen to it next time."
"You're not a teenager anymore. Stop acting like it."
"What's the worst that could happen from all this?"
"Do not talk to me again."
"It really wasn't THAT bad a decision, was it?"
"Yeah. Okay. I screwed up. Now what do I do about it?"
"Don't try to pin this all on me. WE did this. You were involved."
"You don't have that little voice that tells you when something's a bad idea, do you?"
[text] What happened? Everything's a blur.
"Please, please tell me what I did wrong."
"That was just a giant clusterfuck, wasn't it?"

@9billiondollarman is a quadruple threat.

“What the hell happened to you?” Zee asked, holding her hands on her hips, “I mean, I know exactly what everyone else thinks is happening to you, but I'd love to hear an explanation from you instead.” The man she knew as Tony Stark had overnight become something different, Iron Man.

    John raised his eyebrows. He’d never really wanted a normal life, maybe a damned break from time to time, but never outright normality. John snorted softly. He couldn’t imagine he as a teacher. Not that she wasn’t smart or anything like that, just like sometimes she could be a bit impatient. However much that image was absurd in his head, he could agree with her to a point, although he just wished that certain things had never happened and occasionally wondered how that might have altered his life.

    “Dunno – Reckon i sometimes think bout wot mighta happened if Newcastle hadn’t gone down. Would Mucous Membrane’ve been talked bout like Black Flag an’ The Clash? We definitely woulda broken been broken up by now, but I mean, maybe we’d have actually cut an LP at least. Or – If Kit had never left. Tho I mean, if it hadn’t happened then, it woulda happened eventually. God forbid, if we’d done somethin’ mad like get hitched or have a sprog, it woulda been worse. John shrugged. He’d hopped dimensions as well, though a bit differently than Zee. John was a planes walker, whereas she seemed to be able to traverse the so-called multiverse. The point was their experience was vastly different. Seems like ‘m an arsehole no matter where I go.

“Ugh, see I can’t do the little what-ifs anymore. Those drive me up the wall with how many tiny details I regret, or want to change but can’t. That’s why I just imagine something radically different. I can barely imagine how that Zee got into her life, but it’s a nice escape to dream up. That way I can’t consider all the residual problems or conflicts that Zee would have, no problems no problem,” Reaching over, she squeezed a hand against his forearm, “In the end though, who cares. You’re in a solid spot now though, yeah? And I’m happy too. That should be enough.”

Leaning back in her seat she laughed, “Oh I don’t know, I bet if we looked around hard enough we’d find a version of your that’s different enough,” with a smirk, she added, “He’s probably just as insufferable for a different reason, but still, different.”

"I want to help you but not if it’s going to get someone killed."
No one’s gonna die, ‘cept f’maybe me if things go pear shaped.”

“That’s not really raising my confidence in helping you to your own grave, John. So, who else turned you down on this one?” she wanted to compare notes, see who was worth showing up, and maybe who had some decent sense to follow their lead if need be.

"Everybody wants to be somebody else."
Oh aye, so who d’ye wanna be, then?

Zee held up a finger, “I want to be painfully normal, a kindergarten teacher, with a Dalmatian, and a fiancé I’m about to move in with- point being. I sell fantasies for a living. Kindergarten teacher, Zee? She’d want to be me, and it perpetuates the cycle I don’t think we’re allowed to escape. No one gets to be completely happy in their own skin, John, and that feeling only gets worse when you dimension hop.”

@johnconstantfine  needs to trust me

"I think it’s a trap because it’s exactly what I think I would do."
Well then maybe they won’t expect us t’be so barmy.

Zatanna pursed her lips, never one to act so brazenly. She was calculated, rehearsed, and well executed. But this was why she worked with John. Everyone needed a hint of spontaneity, and if ever she had a case that needed it, it was this one. But dammit if it wasn’t annoying to let him take the lead, “If you’re honestly ready to look like a bunch of idiots, then fine. let’s stroll right in that bar and feel like the problem just dropped in our lap. Maybe I’ll even throw on my top hat and tails to add insult to injury,” she scoffed, but still proposed no alternative. John’s plan was really all they had.
