For Now, I'm a Blank Slate

@blueplanettrash / blueplanettrash.tumblr.com

The era of Voltron is now over, it's time to move on. Obsessed with My Hero Academia, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Harry Potter, and Demon Slayer. I’m also back on that DC shit so yeah. If you have any requests for art, let me know!

Just saying. At this point, they really ought to just confirm Batman as being interested in men, because not once since the 1930's has anyone been convinced that Bruce Wayne is straight. They made the Comics Code Authority to nerf his sheer gay potency, they've tried to create various female love interests for him over the years, but none of them have managed to stick thus far, and in fact one of them turned out to be a lesbian (and his cousin. I'm talking about Batwoman here), everyone was convinced that Adam West's Batman was gay in the 60's, and ever since then, DC and everyone else who works on Batman has been trying SO hard to convince EVERYONE that Batman is straight by making him partake in all of the worst parts of toxic masculinity. But here's the thing. The more you have to try to convince everyone that you're straight, the less likely it is that you're actually straight... >.>

So just embrace it, man! Let Batman be interested in men! He's just been buried so deep in the closet this whole time that he's been desperately trying convince everyone that he's straight! There's actually a really good story there!

Also like... Has anyone ever thought that Superman was gay? Have people questioned Clark's sexuality nearly as much as they have for Bruce? There has to be some reason that people just KEEP questioning Bruce's sexuality over the years!

Also just saying... It would be one hell of a power move over Marvel if you just let Bruce be interested in men, DC... >.> Marvel over there being owned by Disney would NEVER make one of their biggest money makers gay! Disney revealing their 8th 'first gay character' would never dare to do something like give Spiderman a boyfriend! Want to earn some REAL points with the LGBT community!? Make Bruce gay (or bi) and don't apologize for it! You could make a whole thing out of it. A one-shot or miniseries about Bruce coming out of the closet. Sell rainbow batsuit merchandise for pride. You bet your ass if they sold something like that, I'd buy it. And a whole lot of other people would too! Stupid reactionaries would probably buy that stuff just to burn it, but you know what? Let them! Makes the rainbow pride stuff all the more valuable! So come on, DC! Do it! I freaking dare you! It would be a hella cash money and good move!

One time while playing trivia, one of the questions was something like, what is the relationship between Batman and Robin? (It's was that Robin was Batman's ward) and my mom with her whole chest said that they were boyfriends. I was baffled and I asked my dad the same question and he said the same thing!! So, I was left wondering how many people from my parents' generation, who have no knowledge of the batman universe, think that Batman has been gay this whole time.

Question for anyone that might know, does anyone know the series that has this Clark Kent? I can't remember and it's killing me 🥺 I've saved one picture and it's all I have. I believe it's set in Smallville when he's a teenager and he is gigantic... that's all I remember... please help!!

This is from Superman: Kryptonite which was published in the Superman Confidential series in 2006. It's by Darwyn Cooke and Tim Sale and it's one of the best Superman stories!

Thank you! You've saved my life 🙏

You know, I love that Danny Phantom is circulating again but at the same time, I'm so confused why Danny Phantom is back and I know that its been back for several months but like one of my first fanfics almost 10 years ago was for Danny Phantom. I just want to know why I went from seeing nothing to not being able to scroll one page on AO3 without a crossover fic. Was there something I missed?

Okay, imagine this. Manosphere podcasts start talking about Bruce Wayne for some reason. He's the biggest alpha male they can think of; he's ripped, he's rich, he's constantly surrounded by hoards of women. He's their king, they can't get enough of him.

And then...

A week later a story comes out that he's dating Daily Planet reporter Clark Kent. What are they going to say? They can't say anything, backpedalling makes you look dumb.

Okay. Bye. 👋

Very true and I was going to make the point that Clark Kent has to have some amount of fame himself. He's a investigative journalist for a whole renowned newspaper, a pulitzer prize winner, and no matter what he does he can't hide how big he is and the manosphere loved him as well for other reasons.

Imagine they've been together for years and didn't want to come out because of the huge media storm it would cause; but then they see that they're getting hyped up in the manosphere and decide - you know what, we can deal with the media instead 😂

I made an amateur comic because I need it out of my head.

Thinking about that one time in JL TAS when Batman thought Wonder Woman was buried under rubble and literally dug through it with his bare hands until she climbed out and then proceeded to hide his hands from her. Thinking about how it took Flash (2) minutes of talking to get him to go to Flash Appreciation Day and drag Orion along with him. Thinking about how Batman, literally he squishiest and most vulnerable member of the team, shot Martian Manhunter and the Flash away from the Watchtower so he could crash it into the enemy’s doomsday weapon, KNOWING he was far more likely to die than those two. Thinking about how on Superman’s birthday he personally delivered cash, knowing it was a shit gift, to him in the Fortress of Solitude because  he didn’t know how to give it otherwise. Thinking about how Batman is aware that he probably won’t ever fix Gotham, but still goes out and does it anyway because every life he saves is another life that won’t end up like his. Thinking about how Batman’s greatest strength is not his intelligence, or his skill, or his willpower, but his compassion for life even at its ugliest.

I'm still bitter over the fact that they changed his gift to cash in the show since in the comic his gift was a new breed of rose called "The Krypton".

Cmon, that would have been way cuter

Hi, I have very much been in love with your thumbnails since you first posted them and I was just wondering how you learned to do them? Did you go to art school? Are you self taught? Either way, I just need you to know that I love you and you make my day whenever you post a new comic or drawing💙

I've been doing short little gag comics since I was 10. Tho I can't really say I'm self taught beucase I don't remmber "studying" any techquines or how certain comics work. I'm not a actively curious person and I have a adversion to learning, true learning not just listening to nonfiction book in the background (becuase I do, do that) I mainly learn out of necessity and by a slow osmosis. (Which is while I will always be an artist just not a great artist lol) And I'm sure over the many years I've absorbed information subconsciously by sheer exposure and I remmber reading some internet tutorial about how to do bubble placement but I can't really tell you how I learned.

What I can tell you is how I think when I make one.

So when I think of comic it's not in a comic froum. It's just events playing out In my minds eye like on a TV show like Arrested Development. Simple directing no crazy angles, or flashy editing.

I then wirte the script

I wirte the dialogue And rough non verbal discrption first becuase that's basically all my comics are about people talking with the occasional reaction shot.

Then I read that dialogue and find the natural breaks and emphasizesiums. And group those dialogues together. This is mainly intuation, and how you see it in your minds eye. This is also subject to change.

Then I get into the real meat of discription where I on good days I stretch my creative mussles and think out of my comfort zone With interesting angles, poses, visual sotry telling background cues; and on most days I just elaborate on basic detials like vague setting , who's in the background , forgrond, thier expressions, ect.

And during this part you might find yourself reworking your groups these groups become our pannles and by the end you Have a working script :)

Then I try to make those pannles fit on to a page it like makeing a puzzle fit that's what the thumbnailing is. I do it in penical first or I'll make a few small ones like before on a good day I'll flex my comic skills I'll make 3-4 different version of the same page to branch out of my normal patterns which is good practice. I don't always do it becuase the idea in my head feels so right even if it is repetive and unimaginative I just can't deviate.

I sometimes make a larger version of my smaller scribble ( Like I posted) with various colors and bubble placement becuase it's closer to the right size ( the smaller version I normally draw on sticky notes and they are too wide and I try to make them more vertical. and its for motivation I find if I have a nicer thumbnail to look at the more likely I will draw that comic…. Also I have a lot of empty journals laying around the house so . . . Lol

I hope this super long reply helped.

I’m sorry that it took me so long to reply to this response. Thank you for answering me so thoroughly, I really appreciate it! Sometimes I find it frustrating when I can’t make things that are similar to artists that I look up to; like trying to lay out comics like you do, but I have to remember that artists all have different methods in their creation. So, thank you for explaining your creative process to me and I hope that I will be able to develop my skills because of it 💙
