I'm still not over the fact that all the hard work the Bad Kids put into their academics was just completely fucking unnecessary.

So many stress tokens could have been avoided...

It doesn't even matter that Riz will find the rogue teacher soon or that Gorgug took 4 years of classes at the same time or that Kristen got an A+ even with a dead god or that Adaine is finally financially stable enough to succeed in her classes or that Fig finally found a way school works for her or that Fabian is balancing his school life with his party life

All that work, all those struggles could have been avoided and the outcome would have been the same... fuck that fictional school system (and the real school system, but that isn't what this post is about)

Alright, now hold on.

A big part of that fight was that Brennan very specifically made at least one question he was sure they couldn’t make, and they didn’t. Gorgug trying so hard in his classes really did pay off because while we already know he could make a freaking satellite without his classes, that train question was the kind of standardized BS all his schoolwork made him accustomed to, and that he couldn’t have just Good Will Hunting-ed his way through.

They were all working their asses off in school, that essay they used a stamp for was All A’s Fabian and Ruiz Gukgack taking the time to write that out before the test and already having it ready to go.

It isn’t that all hard work is actually pointless, it’s that pouring yourself into only the stuff you are told to do is pointless, especially when the school telling you to do that has failed you so much that you have to take the Last Stand despite having the skills to pass it. In any line of pursuit, especially adventuring, you are going to come across scenarios that simply aren’t built correctly. Especially if you are neurodivergent, queer, trans or some other minority (is that redundant? Is trans part of queer?) you can’t always rely on the system working. Arthur Aguefort knows that, so he designed a system meant to be broken and subverted.

The Bad Kids couldn’t have passed that test if they had just let their studies flop. They took that test because despite their best efforts, Kristen’s A+ was treated as a failure by a corrupt and prejudiced authority figure. Aguefort, with his Last Stand and his “fuck the system” mentality, wasn’t saying the system *shouldnt* work. He’s saying he knows there are forces that specifically cause systems to fail and hurt the people who rely on those systems. He’s saying we need to be ready to make our own options, or at least ready to try.

Sometimes you raise the double birds and say you’ll never die, and then die. Sometimes you don’t know how to win, how to move forward. Sometimes you don’t have a convenient path where you put in effort and get out results.

Sometimes you resurrect a goddess only to realize you don’t have what it takes to maintain her godhood. Sometimes you multiclass barbarian and artificer only to realize you don’t know how to make them work well together. Sometimes you start a rock band and realize you might not actually have more albums in you.

The Bad Kids may have solved some of those problems, but there was a time when they didn’t know how to, and the answers weren’t just conveniently available in a textbook. When Arthur said that taking the Last Stand was stupid, he didn’t mean it was a bad decision. He meant it was designed so that nobody who takes it can know for sure they will be ready for it and their efforts will pay off. Sometimes you try to fly with a dance ribbon or fight a mindflayer pirate captain without your adventuring party, because you THINK you need to beat someone down the stairs or prove you are worthy of a legacy.

When you don’t know what to do you have to try things without knowing they will work, because if you knew something would work you would know what to do. When those attempts fail, it looks stupid and everyone laughs at you. Which is dumb, cause it’s not your fault you are in that situation without a good answer. That’s why you can pass the Last Stand even if you get a TPK, because sometimes when you fail at the things you THINK you need to do, it turns out you didn’t. And tests are supposed to be about finding out if you could succeed in the real deal, not actually throwing you into that real deal.

You aren’t guaranteed success if you pass our real life school systems, and you aren’t guaranteed failure if you drop out. Either way, you’ll still inevitably reach a point where you don’t have anyone or anything to help you figure out how to move forward, what to do next, including all the hard work you did in the past. It might feel like all the things you worked hard on have failed you. That’s when you have to be ready to “do something stupid”.

The Last Stand Exam

This file documents the questions administered to the adventuring party known as the Bad Kids during their Last Standard Exam, in their junior year at the Aguefort Adventuring Academy. This assessment was produced from a variety of class materials relevant to the curriculum of the Aguefort Adventuring Academy, as submitted to the principal Arthur Aguefort prior to the start of the school year. This list is accompanied by documentation of the creatures the party known as the Bad Kids was required to face as part of the exam.

The exam is graded out of 100 points; the scoring involves the students correctly answering the questions in the appropriate time interval as well as their heroic last stands. The students are expected to simultaneously fight off a horde of creatures and participate in the examination equally; each student in this party must answer two of the twelve questions.

Neither exam aids, nor outside interference are permitted during the examination period--this excludes clerical divine intervention, as appropriately performed by a member of the party in question. By standard, the proctor must be protected--death of the proctor results in a 30 point score reduction regardless of circumstance.

By Solisian School District Standards, this party reports excellent grades and a high level of competency with regard to independent adventuring.* They were allotted a grace period prior to exam initiation for preparatory spellcasting and review of the exam parameters. Based on prior academic achievement**, the students were allowed two chances to defer a question or utilize previous materials in their response. Questions where these materials were used will be marked with a **.

Exam Proctor: Gavin Pundle

Assisting Cleric: Buddy Dawn

Party Members:

  • Adaine Abernant | Wizard
  • Kristen Applebees | Cleric
  • Figueroth Faeth | Bard / Paladin / Warlock
  • Riz Gukgak | Rogue
  • Fabian Aramais Seacaster | Fighter / Bard
  • Gorgug Thistlespring | Barbarian / Artificer

i do feel like all the bad kids have to do is go "is NO ONE concerned the rat grinders lost two clerics in under a year" cause at that point it doesn't even matter, the school population will be on their side. "oooh but devil's honey manipulation court of law" YOU CAN HAVE YOUR IVORY TOWER YOU'LL NEVER HAVE THE STREETS!

why is finding trans healthcare so complicated can’t someone just hit me up with boy juice and amputitty me already

“you need documentation” ok fine

i have no idea if this will help with your situation, but erin reed has a map with all informed consent clinics- this may be completely unhelpful but i know these clinics make it easier to access hrt with less barriers.

so I made the original post as a joke, but then I saw this and found an informed consent provider in my area and I’m gonna make an appointment. genuinely thank you, this reblog could make my healthcare journey so much easier. hope this helps someone else too <3

You guys I just realized that what I’ve always wanted out of werewolf fiction is a story where lycanthropy isn’t a purely human condition

Like this dude wakes up from his wolfbender and his room is full of all these fucking chickens from local farms that he initiated into his pack. They all start clucking and crowing at the moon and when it’s full they all transform into these tiny little weird bipedal wolves with wings.

I don’t remember making this post but it’s going around again and I’m losing my shit

Imagine becoming a werewolf because you got attacked by a fucked up chicken

A wildlife rehab centre discovers that one of its patients is a lycanthrope when the full moon hits and their wolf transforms into a slightly different wolf.

Hello I am the tiny penis doctor. You might notice that the placard on my desk says big penis doctor, that is because the hospital calls me the big penis doctor so if you have a tiny penis you do not have to ask for the tiny penis doctor, you simply ask for the big penis doctor and that way nobody knows you have a tiny penis. I am sorry my friend I have left the intercom on so now the entire hospital knows you have a tiny penis, I am so sorry

I stumbled across a photo (by Lindy Pollard) that fantastically mirrors a little dragon I drew a few years ago.... I can't get over this...
