“Yes, and I’d live longer if I ate only rice and boiled vegetables, but that’s just as unlikely.”

"That..." he paused. "Alright you have a point but let me have my little delusions. Reality is far too boring otherwise, and so are your rice and vegetables."

He hadn’t expected that sort of sassed response back. He smiles after recovering, laughing. “Y’got a point, I’ll give ya that. ‘Specially this boiled stuff. Don’t even have salt in it, but I guess ya take what you can get.” He prods at the food in his bowl. “Guess I could stan’ to lose a li’l weight.”

The question seemed to have startled him. Enough to bring him back to himself. There’s a long pause before he manages to answer.
“Wasn’t the one who had an assassin sent af’ta them.” Another pause and his expression softened even further.
“But I’m fine. Thanks for the concern.” His gaze falls to the body of the would be assassin, brows furrowing.
“We should get you iside now. No tellin’ who or what else migh’ be out’n’about.” He crouched down to gather up the body, tossing it over his shoulder before addressing Kaaras.
“Gon’ take care’a this guy first then I meet up with you inside later, ‘right?” He at least wanted to see if there was anything on the body to clue him in on who might have sent the guy and why.
“’Sides, think you might be needin’ to calm dat other guy down an’see if he okay ‘stead of me.” Whoever Kaaras had been talking to had seemed real alarmed by the sudden attack. Unharmed, but very startled.

No, Isaam may not have been the one that was being hunted, but he’d also been the one that had attacked the assailant. In the scuffle, he could have been injured, and for some reasons that’s all that Kaaras thought about. His life was on the line, and he was so selfless that he was thinking about Isaam. Honestly, sometimes his kindness was a little too much.

Long ears flicked back as Isaam picked the man up. He wasn’t surprised that his lover could haul a human being over his shoulder (he was qunari after all), but the fact that he was so casual about dropping a dead man somewhere made him frown. Then again, priorities, and Kaaras was the man alive here, so he should definitely shelter himself.

“Of course,” he murmured, one of his guardsmen accompanying him inside the nearest inn for shelter. His guards swept the place and Kaaras took a seat in a well protected corner of the room. The tavern master was informed immediately offered the Inquisitor a warm drink, as if he needed to apologise for some reason. Kaaras was baffled why anyone would think they needed to apologise for an assassin that wasn’t in their control, but he didn’t argue, taking the tea happily.

The man he’d been with had already been ushered in and a worker in the tavern was attempting to calm them. When Isaam returned, he leant forward, his heart having calmed down from the rush of adrenaline.

Image

“Did you find anything?” he asked. Anything that might tell them why they were after him, and who they were, or were working for.

He grumbled, shaking his head with a frown.

“Not much ‘cept this piece’a paper givin’ them the task’a killin’ you,” he spoke, holding up the piece of paper he’d found on the body before stuffing it back into a pocket.

“Think I might send a raven to see if Spymaster might be able to dig up who made the order. Or match writin’. Or at leas’ some sorta clue.” Another frown crossed over his scarred features.

“For now, looks like we’ll have to be extra careful in this place. Someone ain’t playin’ fair here.” They’d likely have to beef up security around Kaaras as well, but that was something to approach Kaaras with later.

For now...

“Glad to see you look unharmed. Am a li’l insulted I didn’t catch him before he got to close to you, but I’m glad you’re safe now.” The near strike had been too close for comfort for him. And tapping into his old Ben-Hassrath ways had felt...strangely good. And that worried him almost as much as almost slipping up did.

If it hadn’t been for the scuffle behind him, Kaaras wouldn’t have even known there was an assassins behind him. He had particularly good hearing considering he was a qunari, but also because of his overly sensitive (and large) ears, but the light footwork of a well trained assassin was still beyond him, especially when he’d been talking to someone else in the evening darkness, lanterns overhead in the small town.
When he heard the noise of Isaam and his would-be-killer, he spun around, watching as Isaam took them out. A sense of shock went through his whole body, and he wanted to step in, but even if he wanted to, Isaam was so damn quick about it all that it was over before he could even intervene.
“Maker’s breath,” he spoke, a puff of frost exiting his lips in the cool night air. His ears flicked back, eyes looking around as if there may be more of them around. Who had sent an assassin after him? And why? Could there be more? He suddenly felt very unsafe out here in the open.
image
“I’m–I’m fine no thanks to your quick response, but…” The person he’d been speaking with was in far worse condition than he was, and he quickly told them to go inside.
One of Kaaras’ guards put a hand to him, stepping around as a shield. “Inquisitor, you should go inside, let us sweep the area.”
“I think that would be a good idea…” Kaaras agreed. “Isaam, are you alright?”

The question seemed to have startled him. Enough to bring him back to himself. There’s a long pause before he manages to answer.

@kaaras-adaar || Still Accepting

It's like a switch was had been thrown in him.

The moment he'd seen the glare of light reflected off the drawn dagger and it's target, he'd jumped to action.

It'd been so easy to slip into his training, like he'd never stopped being Qunari. So easy to slip into that lethal and dangerous mindset, sneaking up behind Kaaras' would be assailant. He doesn't hesitate to grab the assassin and drag them backwards from the target, usong his strength to keep the still and a hand to keep them quiet. He draws his own blade, tightening his grip on the struggling person before sinking his blade in to their back.

The qunari waits for a bit, expression cool while the person in his arm slows in their struggle before stopping altogether, letting the body drop before focusing on the Inquisitor.

His features softened after a moment of regarding the other qunari, the hard edge of of the ex-Ben-Hassrath melting back into the more familiar Field Leader Katari.

"You alright?"

He knew Isaam wasn’t reading out loud but his mind flailed at the truth that was before him. His blush deepened, as his temperature continued to rise. The mage felt dizzy. After all the fantasies, it was happening in the flesh. At least he hoped.

He would hate to chase away another desire demon.

His mind drifted to those fantasies, how he dreamed those hands would feel against, now he could truly know, no guessing. Places on his body burned as he thought where those phantom hands would venture. He needed Isaam over here already, making him his.

Zachariah, felt air catch in his throat when he tried to speak. He had what he wanted from Isaam, the fantasy, but he wanted what was real more, whatever that would be. But he didn’t want to come off as too needy, and desperate. However, the growing stiffness between his legs, ruined that as robes were not grand at hiding some things.

Hands reach for the desk, white knuckling for balance; his legs were already turning into jelly. His legs spread inviting Isaam to the proof of his arousal, like his body needed Isaam to see. The Senior Enchanter leaned against the desk.

“I could use some help.” He said breathlessly.

This was just like the books, Maker he couldn’t believe he was doing this. Acting so needy and scandalous.

Green eyes glanced down quickly before returning to meet Zach’s blue, the scarred half of his lips quirking in a knowing smirk.

“Seems like you could use more than a li’l help.” From what he’d seen, he could already tell that just his words alone were having an effect on the mage. Its takes him but a few, lazy strides to clear the distance between them, made acutely aware just how much smaller Zachariah was compared to him.

He’d have to be extra careful.

He placed a hand on the desk to balance himself, leaning into Zach’s space with a tilt of his head and a hum. Pondering. Teasing.

“And what sort of help would you need from someone like me?” he asked, voice low, teasing with dark promise. He had plenty of ideas plenty of was he knew Zach would enjoy himself, but he wanted to hear it from him. Hear the mage express that he wanted what was coming. Wanted to hear him speak his desires out loud.

“My thoughts exactly! I think they were picking the place clean, and my family long gone,” Zachariah agreed, “Oh yes! I was eight when they took me. Most don’t show signs until puberty, but my magic manifested early. Classic child set fire to the barn on accident stuff.”
image
Which was amusing to look back on for the Senior Enchanter as he was not much of a Primal mage himself. No his magical prowess grew and became a more unseen killer, something the Chantry feared. Now that he thought about it, it was a small miracle they let him become a Senior Enchanter, and didn’t make him Tranquil. Oh the things he was noticing with his found freedom.
It scared him; to have his whole life torn apart and put under a different eye to see it’s flaws.
“But as you’ve seen that kind of magic isn’t where my talent grew.”

It’s nice to know Zach still has a bit of optimism in him despite their current circumstances and his life in the circle. He can’t really imagine being taken away from family at such a young age. It’s different that how he’d been raised, having no real family like the mage had before being taken, but that was something to dwell on at a different time.

Or not at all. It was in the past now.

He leaned back a bit in his chair as he looked at the SEnior Enchanted, tilting his head one way with a smile.

“Yeah. Kin’a guessed that fire magic wa’n’t really the direction ya went when ya started throwin’ them templars ‘round like they’ was made’a straw.” It had be startling, if a little fascinating to watch the man work. And some small part of him was intensely glad that Zachariah was on their side and not the other. He suppressed a shudder at the thought.

“I ain’t seen many mages accomplish what you can do. Must be real rare, your force magic, right?”

‘Oh, the things I want to do to you…’ (He had to. He's only mildly sorry)

He was in his quarters leaned over his desk, deeply focused on the demon rags he had been given to study. Anything to help give the Inquisitor the edge. However, he didn't hear Isaam enter. Which was embarrassing given the heavy wooden door the qunari had to have opened.

Those words! He knew those words he had read them many times in the books he owned, thanks to the man speaking those words now. Zachariah felt his ears catch fire and it was spreading across his cheeks and moving downward.

Was he dreaming? He had to be and this was a Desire demon come to try and tempt him. And if he were to be honest it was off to a good start.

Slowly the mage turned to face the larger man. His face must have given everything away, not like he could hide it if he wanted. Face red and eyes wide.

After a hard swallow, he spoke, "Isaam? Is everything okay? I mean, of course, it is. Are you reading out loud?"

The giant of a man does take a moment to pause at the door, looking over the mage’s expression and admiring his handy work. While also making sure he hadn’t been reading him wrong. As a rule, he generally thought himself a person who could read people rather well. Part of his job really and he couldn’t very well call himself a good spy or rogue if he wasn’t able to get a read on someone.

Yet, this was more of a delicate situation than his usual fare. He had to be careful.

He’d seen the looks, after all. As discreet as Zach had tried to make them, there wasn’t much hiding the interest he’d seen in those curious eyes. And he’d be damned if he didn’t admit he was curious as well.

He smiled, offering a look at his hands.

“Ain’t no book in my hands to be readin’ outta and you the only person in here I can be addressin’.” His smile broadened just a bit more.

“Should be askin’ you if you a’right. You’re lookin’ a li’l warm under the collar.”
