being a supernatural fan is so insane bc there are like three or four categories of fan and literally no feasible way to have a respectful conversation across those categories. like i’d rather talk about spn to the gas station cashier than other people who watch the show

this is worded wrong bc i know and love ppl with different spn opinions than me but most people in this fandom r soooo willing to die on their respective hills and it feels more drastic than other fan communities i’ve been in. everyone is SO upset all the time and SO angry that other people might interpret the show differently from them, especially after the last few episodes, but in reality if we told anyone outside of this shitshow that we liked spn they’d regard us all the exact same way.

There are a lot of angry voices right now, but honestly this is not the first time I’ve seen this fandom getting this loud.  It’s not even the fifth time, and I haven’t been here as long as some of the actual old guard.  The general rule at this stage in a fandom fire is to start curating who you spend time around.  In my experience, find the multishippers and the fandom elders and look for the people they surround themselves with.  Those corners tend to be quieter and a lot less stressful to deal with.

Cause it’s not everyone, most of my dash is processing or mourning under tags that I can filter easily (and I’m not because they’re not that loud or upsetting anymore), and the rest are back at creating and building the next stage of the community.  There’s a lot in who you follow.

(As a side note, there’s something closer to 30 community divides, multiplied by at least 12 platforms.  Spn is kinda several dozen fandoms in a trenchcoat.)
